Trump Says Ceasefire “Over” After Iran Renews Attack on Hormuz Shipping
CENTCOM: U.S. forces struck “over 80 targets with precision munitions as an immediate response to Iran’s latest attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.”
President Donald Trump declared the ceasefire with Iran “over,” announcing he would no longer deal with the regime after it resumed attacks on oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
“U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the memorandum of understanding signed with Iran to end the conflict was “over”, adding he didn’t want to engage with Tehran,” Reuters reported Wednesday morning. “Trump was speaking in Ankara ahead of a NATO summit in the Turkish capital.”

Speaking Wednesday morning, President Trump leveled one of his sharpest criticisms yet against Iran’s ruling Mullahs, calling them “dirty players” and “evil people” for violating the ceasefire agreed five weeks ago.
“They’re cuckoo as far as I’m concerned,” he continued.
While the U.S. was willing to offer a respite in the wake of Ayatullah Khamenei’s funeral, Tehran decided to attack shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, the president observed.
“They’re sick. There’s something wrong with them,” the president said. “We said ‘Go and do your funeral stuff’, and instead of that, they start shooting rockets and ships yesterday. So we hit them very hard last night.”
President Trump’s remarks come a day after Iran attacked three ships sailing through the Strait of Hormuz. The attack came amid calls for “revenge” against the U.S. and its allies during the ongoing funeral ceremony for Khamenei, with regime loyalists calling for the assassination of President Trump and senior members of his administration.

Later in the day, President Trump warned that if Iranian aggression continues, the U.S. Military was prepared to ‘hit them hard,’ and there’s ‘not a thing’ Tehran could do to stop it, hinting at the country’s depleted air defenses.
“We’ll probably hit them hard again tonight. I’ll give them a little warning,” he said.

The U.S. retaliated by hitting regime targets in southern Iran, including Kharg Island, the country’s main oil export and storage hub. Citing Iranian media reports, UK daily Independent claimed “explosions in Iran’s main oil hub of Kharg Island, on Qeshm Island and in the southern port cities of Sirik and Bandar Abbas.”
According to Central Command (CENTCOM), the U.S. “forces completed a new round of offensive strikes against Iran, July 7, hitting over 80 targets with precision munitions as an immediate response to Iran’s latest attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.”
They “struck Iranian air defense systems, command and control networks, coastal radar sites, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps small boats in and near the strait to degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking international commerce flowing through the international trade corridor,” the CENTCOM added.
Following Iranian attack, the United Nations’ maritime agency warned ships not to use the strait. “Ships should avoid travelling through the Strait of Hormuz due to the “volatile” situation in the area, the head of the International Maritime Organisation has said,” the Sky News (UK) reported Wednesday.

So Trump finally realizes that you can’t and shouldn’t negotiate with the Iranian Regime. Good. It’s about time. Now perhaps he’ll recall his negotiators and do what is necessary to permanently eliminate Iran as a threat to the US and Western world. Action that should have taken place at the very beginning but didn’t occur.

Oh, I think President Trump expected that negotiating wouldn’t work. I think he considered all the other interests in the area and wanted to prove HE was willing to negotiate, but Iran wasn’t.

I’ve been thinking about this. Trump earned absolutely no points and will receive no credit for pausing. People are set in their opinion of Trump. They either hate him or accept/love him. No one is going to change their mind at this point and certainly not because he paused his bombardment of the homicidal lunatics in Iran.
Thus I see no upside in his pause and plenty of downside. Iran got respite from the bombing and could organize and rearm. Israelis plans were messed with. the 60 days elapsed so congress got engaged in war powers discussion. As i said there was plenty of downside to it.
The only possible positive upside I can see is a military one. A pause does give a break to our forces. It does allow some to be swapped and certainly it does allow them to rearm. Other than this I see no upside.
Perhaps Trump is playing checkes after all and not 20D chess as has been continuously suggested. Maybe chinese checkers.
You’re thinking in limited public opinion terms, and a lot of this opinion is misrepresented by a grotesquely biased media. The comment above, I believe, was reflecting on the broader geo-political landscape. But I’m not convinced that controlled the decision making either. The least costly way to achieve free navigation in the Hormuz, in terms of lives and military expenditures, was an understanding with the Iranians. But Iranians, being stupid and violent didn’t like the carrot so now they get the stick. .
TBH I think this is more ‘Trump hyperbole’. I’d be in total agreement with refusing to speak with the Iranian Regime other than to accept their unconditional surrender. Unfortunately that’s probably not what’s happening, despite prior Trump hyperbole about it. That’s IMO a big part of the problem. The Iranian Regime successfully maneuvered the WH into an extended cease fire in the spring. Those several months burned through the ‘slack’ in the oil supply/distribution system that kept oil prices from hitting $150 a barrel or more. Once summer hit the USA was less likely to engage in massive bombing campaign for many reasons. Among them are summer driving season gas prices, Nov elections, hosting the World Cup, America’s 250th events. Add the very real economic problems of our NATO ‘allies’ who shut themselves off from cheap Russian oil/gas. Add the reluctance (though less so now) of our Arab ‘partners’ to crush Iran. Both they and the EU would be flooded with migrants plus the potential for internal domestic violence by the usual migrant suspects.
IMO what we’ll see is more WH bluster followed by a return to ‘negotiation’ followed by more violations, followed by reprisals …rinse and repeat through the Nov midterms. That gives the USA and others several months to rebuild oil stocks and regional Nations time to fast track build out of pipelines away from the Strait both of which create cushion in oil to withstand the oil ‘shock’ a sustained bombing campaign to destroy the infrastructure and compel surrender would require.

Seems that Trump thought this would be easy like Venezuela, and he is finding out the hard way that every president before him looked at the situation and realized that the only way to fix it is regime change which requires substantial ground forces and years of occupation. There are no good options here.
I knew the Iranians would break the cease fire. The Billions are going to stay locked away and hopefully we send bunker buster bombs to all of the IRGC bunkers. The smart ones have already left.
