Sen. Tillis Won’t Support Blanche for AG Until He Meets Epstein Survivors

Sen. Tillis Won’t Support Blanche for AG Until He Meets Epstein Survivors

“I expect that meeting to occur before I’m willing to vote out of this committee, and I’m trying to get to yes.”

Outgoing Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) remains a thorn in President Donald Trump’s side.

Tillis threatened not to vote for acting Attorney General Todd Blanche for the job until he meets with survivors of Jeffrey Epstein.

Did Tillis forget he already threatened not to vote for Trump’s pick if they watered down January 6? Which is it, dude?

Tillis just wants to rile up Trump. What a petty man:

Yesterday, before the the hearing, and Mr. Blanche, I have a positive predisposition to, just so that everybody knows, I have not made a final decision. But Mr. Blanche said very quickly yesterday that he would meet with the victims, the the Epstein victims, today if it could be arranged.

Well, right now the markup, if you all don’t know procedure here, after this hearing is done today, next week we’ll hold it over. The earliest possible markup would be two weeks from now, and because it seemed to me that Mr. Blanche was willing to to say that he would meet with them and council. I understand the restriction that council has to be present.

I expect that meeting to occur before I’m willing to vote out of this committee, and I’m trying to get to yes. But this is a very important part of getting to yes. There should not be any reason why, based on what Mr. Blanch said yesterday, if he said that he would do it today, then he can certainly do it over the next two weeks.

Blanche told the committee he could not meet with the victims due to his position at the DOJ. The victims could meet with DOJ staff, though:

“Can I get your word under oath that within the next 30 days you will personally sit down with these 10 victims and hear their case?” the Illinois Democrat [Dick Durbin] asked.

Blanche said the department had officials prepared to meet with the women immediately, but communications with represented clients must go through their attorneys.

“They have lawyers, as you know. I’m prohibited from meeting directly with them,” Blanche said. “But if they are represented by counsel, we will work with their counsel.”

A Republican no vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee means Blanche’s nomination won’t make it to the Senate floor.

Abhishek Kambli, a former deputy associate attorney general, confirmed Blanche’s comments.

Durbin demanded that Blanche tell the committee when he finishes any meetings.

Blanche said the law prohibits him from doing so if “they’re talking about an ongoing investigation.”

Durbin fired back that Blanche was “dancing on the head of a pen,” but if the law prevents him, there’s nothing he can do about it.

How many times have we heard law enforcement and lawyers telling the media and others that they cannot comment on an ongoing investigation?

The key is outgoing. He has been a preening ass in the meantime and I think he has a nest back here in NC that he is trying to feather. We’ll know when he gets home for good. Until then, I do believe he would lick himself if he could.

Why is this washed up has-been even still sitting on Senate committees? As soon as a member of congress drops out or is eliminated from reelection they should be removed from all committee assignments so they can’t go scorched earth and tie up our government. There is no reason that this man is the chair of two subcommittees on finance and justice, let alone just sitting on 13 other committees.

Which Epstein victims? Oh! How about the ones that a few congressmen smeared by leaking their names when they hadn’t done anything?

I am really tired of hearing about Epstein. Once politicians started using it to score points, the chance of any of the victims getting justice ended. Just let it go.

I’m having a major bout of Epstein Fatigue. I just wish people would stop dragging his name up at every chance they get. He’s dead and gone. And that’s all you can say about him at this point. So just stop people. Stop dragging up Epstein. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Can someone please explain what purpose such a meeting is supposed to serve? I mean, Epstein is dead. The DOJ can’t try or imprison a dead man. Seems to me that any actions involving the victims are going to be civil claims against his estate.

Aside from some performative kabuki, what purpose will be served by the Acting AG meeting with the victims?

Tillis is such a grandstanding narcissist — Epstein is an obsession of Dhimmi-crats and cuckoo “conservatives.”

The wicked Epstein is dead, and let’s note that his major clients, friends and enablers were Dhimmi-crats and British leftists .

Absolutely nothing legally prevents him from meeting with the victims, he can do so as he did with Ghislane Maxwell: with their attorneys present. He’s just lying. And you’re either lying or ignorant.

Ethically it’s a different story, however. RPC 4.2 clearly states that it is a violation to meet with a represented person without consent of counsel.

Why don’t you reread what I wrote, and try again. I’ll give you a hint, it’s in the part where I said “with their attorneys present.”

And I believe his point was that he couldn’t “guarantee” under oath that a meeting would be set up. That’s entirely at the discretion of the victims and their attorneys. Blanche is at least smart enough to know that Tillis would roast him, holding him to blame, if the victims/attorneys decided to not play ball.

As Admiral Ackbar famously said, “It’s a trap!”

Whatever you imagine his point, what he actually said was that he was prohibited from meeting with them directly. Not that he was prohibited from meeting with them without the consent or presence of their counsel, but from meeting with them directly. Do you agree that statement was false? Do you agree nothing prohibited him from committing to meeting directly with the victims with their counsel’s consent?

You are pedantic to the point of boredom. You don’t get to be “right” and win the argument, you just get to give your (moronic) opinion.

He has now met with them, so either he violated some law in doing so, or I was right that what he said to Congress was false. You can decide which one you want to believe, but it’s gotta be one.

Things would get exponentially better sooner if we could cane them… 🙂

Tillis is like a fever blister that always pops up at the wrong time. He offers nothing to the American people except stubbornness and stupidity.

He should have been removed from committees months ago, along with Cornyn, Cassidy, and anybody else ‘retiring’ or already defeated.

There’s zero reason we need to suffer lame duck RINOs like Tillis that quit rather than be humiliated in the primary.

This is Thune continuing to be petty.

No way Thune is majority leader next year with all his little minions gone.

Well, alrighty then.
Sounds like Tillis should sit on it and rotate.

That line always confused me. It was Maynard who was confirmed deceased while Zed was still hanging on …unfortunately for him b/c Marcellus was bringing in some dudes with blow torches and a pair of pliers to get ‘medieval on his ass’.
