Pasadena City College Hit With Swatting Call About Gunman on Campus

Swatting Call Brings Police to PCC Campus

Pasadena City College was locked down for more an hour late Friday afternoon after reports of a gunman on campus prompted a large police response, but authorities later determined the incident was likely a swatting call, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Anthony Russo.

“They searched multiple buildings and floors, believing it was a real event,” Russo said. “But it was a prank call.”

Russo said officers were dispatched at approximately 4:12 p.m. to the 1500 block of East Colorado Boulevard after receiving reports that a man with a gun had entered one of the college’s buildings.

The caller described the alleged suspect as having curly hair tied in a ponytail and wearing a plaid shirt, Russo noted.

“We responded, checked the building, and did not locate anyone matching the description,” Russo said.

Surveillance footage was reviewed, but no suspect was seen.

“It was probably a made-up call,” Russo said, adding that the incident was later classified as a swatting prank.

Classes were in session at the time of the report. PCC locked down the campus and notified students to shelter in place.
