Marco Rubio Delivers a Speech for the Ages on Left Wing Violence, Political Terrorism
“For far too long, however, our counterterrorism doctrine has had a blind spot – a blind spot when it comes to extremist violence from the political left.”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio is once again showing what a great choice he was for President Trump for this role. In an outstanding speech to leaders from multiple countries, Rubio warned of a resurgence in politically motivated, left-wing violence:
These are numbers that would shock most Americans today because we’ve been taught to believe that this kind of political violence, it simply doesn’t exist or it’s being exaggerated. But it does exist, and we’re actually underestimating it, and our nations bear the scars to prove it.
And today, we face a new wave of this old evil. Here in the United States, the share of left-wing terrorist attacks and plots has risen to levels not seen in decades. In Germany, far-left violence has jumped by more than 40 percent in just the last year alone. In Greece, more than 80 percent of radical violence is now driven by far-left and anarchist actors. These are not abstract statistics.
Americans have seen what those numbers mean – an all-out assault on our immigration officers, sniper attacks, explosives, armed ambushes. A transgender shooter opening fire on Catholic elementary school students as they pray, his gun marked with slogans like, “Where is your God now?” A health care executive executed in cold blood in the streets. Multiple assassination attempts on a sitting president. And the murder of the greatest conservative activist of a generation, a man who happened also to be a husband and the father of two young children, shot and killed while speaking to a crowd of students.
Conservatives have been waiting for a speech like this and the urgency has only grown since the attempts on Trump’s life and the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
From The Hill:
Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday convened officials from more than 60 countries to raise alarm over what the State Department is warning is a resurgence of far-left political violence globally.
Rubio called for an “international response” to the issue at the summit, which marks an expansion of President Trump’s focus on treating left-wing political violence as the priority terrorist threat facing the U.S. Civil rights group argue it’s a tactic to silence domestic opposition.
Rubio attacked those criticisms as a “partisan fiction” and said that such “ideological prejudice” has left a blind spot in global counterterrorism efforts. In November, the administration designated four leftist groups in Europe as foreign terrorist organizations and offered a $10 million reward for information on their financing.
This is the opening of the speech:
SECRETARY RUBIO: Thank you very much. Thank you, all. Thank you, all, for joining us here today. I’m very honored that this distinguished group of people have traveled from around the world to be a part of this important conversation. We’re grateful to you.
I also want to thank members of the President’s team, cabinet that are here today: our FBI Director Kash Patel, who’s here with us, thank you; our Secretary of Education Linda McMahon has joined us as well. You’ll hear shortly from Stephen Miller, the President’s deputy chief of staff and one of his top advisors on homeland security issues as well, and of course, our Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent is here. And – but again, I want to thank all of you, all of you that are here today.
I want to thank the whole team here at the State Department as well for putting this together. It’s – it truly is an unprecedented event on an unprecedented issue – moment, I should say, in our history.
So let me start by saying that the most essential duty of the state – the first responsibility, frankly, of any government of any kind – is the protection of its people, is the protection of its country. This is a sacred obligation that should transcend all political and all ideological divisions. It is why, for example, we have militaries. It’s why we have intelligence agencies. It’s why counterterrorism bureaus exist, why police forces exist. Keeping our people safe is the reason why every country represented here has all of these things.
We are all very well acquainted as of now, of course, by now with what has been described as traditional terrorist threats. For 25 years, the term counterterrorism – at least in the West – has meant, first and foremost, the fight against radical Islamist extremism. And there’s a very poignant reason for that. On the 11th of September in the year of 2001, 19 men murdered 3,000 people here in my country. Then that same enemy struck Europe, murdering nearly 200 commuters aboard trains in Madrid in 2004 and 52 more aboard London buses and the Underground in the following year. The entire architecture of Western counterterrorism was rebuilt from the studs around the singular traumatic event.

🚨 Sec. Marco Rubio just NAILED IT:

Amen and Amen! This is what a Republican should be talking about. Our enemies here among us and their link to our enemies abroad.
Well said. I didn’t read the transcript but I hope he called out certain democrats, the media (but I repeat myself) and NGOs like the SPLC, BLM, and ADL (yes them at times) that trivialize or whitewash (blackwash?) left wing violence while beating the drum full time for the almost nonexistence right wing violence. If not I hope the follow-ons calls out the miscreants by name.
comes the time, comes the man
Yeah! Take the fight to them. The left only wins if we choose weak leaders. I’m more impressed with Rubio than ever before.
Back in Olympia in the early 2000s I had a porta potty business as a side hustle. The ACAB and anarchist types would roll around the county tagging stop signs with their schtict. On my routes every Saturday I’d pull up along side with a can of goof off and paper towels and wipe it off. It’d damage the underlying paint too, but better than letting their stuff remain.
Unfortunately they had so much time on their hands, they defaced every park and every nice thing in the county.
Fastforward—In the middle of the night some leftists opposing bit coin operations here in NE TN mounted a home made banner on a rail road tressel near my house. We saw it as 6:00 heading out for our run. As soon as we got back I loaded up the car with extension poles and cutting tools to get that thing down. NO. I’M NOT LETTING THE LEFTISTS DO THAT HERE. I’M FIGHTING BACK.
Funny that for all the red state Fudds who whine about people moving here and their politics, I’m the only one on a busy highway that could muster the energy to go pull that thing down.
Apropos of very little…
“Back in Olympia in the early 2000s I had a porta potty business as a side hustle.”
Your name here is Andy. A very long time ago in a town far far away (Pasadena CA) there was a porta-potty outfit called “Andy Gump”.
My company was just “Andy’s” I sold it off in 2010.
Poly-John was my supplier. The regional distributor had logos from hundreds of companies on his wall. It was pretty funny and epic.
They hired Refrigerator Perry from the 80s Superbowl Bears team as their spokesperson and he’d be at the national pumper conference signing autographs. I’ve still got a “Rid It” chemical novelty nerf football with his signature.
“Words,…just words” but we never see any action!
While the Texas antifa did get charged, we still see the Wa and Oregon terrorists lording over the leftist cities.
Rubio’s message needs to be reiterated on a daily basis to catch those who continue to slumber on.
“The Hill” article contains lots of anti-Trump comments by anonymous sources. “The Hill” is a “Pit”.
As I has said
Rubio 2028, not Vance
You have a very short memory.
I remember the gang of 8 Rubio was part of, amnesty, when he first started out as senator
It still others me, but he has grown so much, it’s hard to believe he would do anything today such as that
I don’t trust Vance, at all and unless someone else comes through that door , I will go with Rubio until his actions tell me otherwise
Move been wrong many many times before
I haven’t always agreed with all of Rubio’s positions but I’ve always been impressed by him since he ran for president in 2016. He’s also grown since then and has done an excellent job as Sec State. One of the best in quite a long time.
“A transgender shooter opening fire on Catholic elementary school students as they pray, his gun marked with slogans like, “Where is your God now?”
If he’s talking about the WOMAN I’m thinking of, he needs to stop pandering to our enemies.
Are you thinking of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Nashville_school_shooting#Perpetrator or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2025_Annunciation_Catholic_Church_shooting#Perpetrator? I suspect the latter is the case Rubio was thinking of – man v Roman Catholic kids, the former was woman v Christian kids. (Yes the church behind the school is Presbyterian but my impression is that it’s too small to supply even the majority of pupils).
Kirk murdered, Trump attempted murder and here in the UK Ann Widdecome was murdered last week in a targeted political killing!
All proof of the violence of the Right, so sayeth the Left!
