Louisiana State U. Fires Diversity Admin. Making $300K Amid Spending Cuts

“In total, LSU fired 25 employees, saving $3.7 million”

It is amazing that schools spend this kind of money on diversity administrators. What a waste.

Campus Reform reports:

LSU fires former DEI official earning nearly $330K amid spending cuts

Louisiana State University has fired a former Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) staff member with a reported salary of $329,824 as part of cost-saving measures.

In total, LSU fired 25 employees, saving $3.7 million, according to The Louisiana Illuminator.

The news outlet reported that Todd Manuel, the former vice president of Inclusion, Civil Rights and Title IX, had a salary of $329,824. Manuel had an annual salary of $310,890 in 2023, according to OpenPayrolls.

In 2022, when LSU first hired Manuel, the university was more enthusiastic about Manuel’s role in promoting DEI at the school. LSU President William Tate described him as having a “strong background in diversity, equity and inclusion.”

“Manuel is a seasoned executive and diversity thought leader with expertise in leveraging diversity, equity, and inclusion as a business enabler at both an enterprise and industry-wide level,” the university’s article announcing Manuel’s hiring says.

In his role with the Edison Electric Institute, Manuel “led strategic efforts to advance racial and social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion for the electric power industry.”

After Republican Jeff Landry took office as governor of Louisiana in 2024, LSU began to rebrand DEI.

The Division of Inclusion, Civil Rights and Title IX became the Division of Engagement, Civil Rights and Title IX. LSU has since removed “Engagement” from the title.

At the time of the rebrand, Manuel’s position was renamed vice president of Engagement, Civil Rights & Title IX.

The university also removed its “Mission, Vision, & Diversity Statement” and eliminated the Office of Diversity & Inclusion by merging it with the Division of Engagement, Civil Rights and Title IX.

How many more administrators and staff should be getting pink slips?

I once worked for a large computer company whose (white) VP of manufacturing was a total D. Despite the QC of his product heading into the toilet, his priority was to get up on the roof of the factory so he could personally identify employees who clocked in late. The manager of the team with the worst on-time performance every month had to use a parking space t the far end of the (huge) lot. (He was thwarted by the manager of a detachment on the other coast who arranged to be that guy every month.)

To head off an employee revolt, the PTB “promoted” him to VP of Affirmative Action, where he had power over pretty much nobody, and nobody else had to pay attention to anything he did.

If only we could go back to those good times.
