Dem Rep. Adam Smith Voted Against Israel in Part Due to Threats Against Family
But Smith attempts to appease those leftists even more by railing against Israel in his statement.
Rep. Thomas Massie’s (R-KY) amendment to defund aid and defense sales to Israel failed miserably.
Most of the Democrats railed against Israel to defend their vote against Israel.
Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA), the top Democrat on the Armed Services Committee, voted to defund aid and defense sales to Israel. He also explained his vote, but he dropped an interesting nugget buried within his criticism of Israel:
To date, my family and I have had our home vandalized, a fire has been set in my driveway, my neighbors’ lives have been disrupted by demonstrations in the middle of the night, town halls meant to be forums for dialogue have been shut down, and a staff member has been physically assaulted. Those who engage in this type of behavior model a dangerous form of corrosive politics that seeks to intimidate those who disagree with them. We must be able to have civil discourse if we want to solve difficult problems, and I remain committed to open, respectful engagement.

Caving to these people is the worst thing a person can do, and yet, Smith did just that again with his explanation.
Again, Smith buried the intimidation and violence against his family. Instead, Smith used his time to focus on Israel’s faults as if to prove to those leftists that he shares their sentiments.
Smith misses the point. Those leftists who attacked his family and staff do not hate Israel only because of the ongoing war. Those leftists just hate Israel. They do not want Israel to exist. They hate Jews.
Unless you feel the same as them, they will hate you, too.

Multiple assassination attempts on a sitting president. And the murder of the greatest conservative activist of a generation, a man who happened also to be a husband and the father of two young children, shot and killed while speaking to a crowd of students.
Look at President Donald Trump. Three assassination attempts, and yet he does not stop.

The main purpose of the visit — the first by members of the U.S. House of Representatives since 2019 — was to open up lines of communication between the governments, Smith said.

I have always supported Israel. However, I found it interesting that Netanyahu told Lindsey Graham privately and then repeated on national TV after his death that U.S. assistance is no longer required.
I think we should take Netanyahu at his word. This would defuse an issue used by the radical left to win elections. It would save cash for already strapped US budget, and it would provide justification for future aid if and when Israel really needs it.
I have no problem with reorganizing our programs with Israel to reflect a two-way exchange of information and technology.
But we should remember that the gains Mr. Trump has made in the Arab world, while significant and real, are fragile. A Democratic president could (and would) upset all of that. The “Arab Street” doesn’t like Israel even if Arab leaders are willing to work behind the scenes with the Israelis.
So I have no problem continuing some forms of military assistance “just in case”. Let’s see how the next 10 years play out.
It’s not really about foreign aid. We could end all money to Israel and the leftists would demand that we sanction them, isolate them, and destroy their country. Leftists can’t imagine a world where Jews don’t have a boot on their necks.
I agree. Israel doesn’t require 3B in aid a year. They do need to be able to purchase weapons and spare parts though.
At the same time we should end aid to muslim countries. We should especially end it to Egypt which receives the same amount as Israel.
We should NEVER sell F-35s to Turkey. This would be a big mistake. They are unreliable and a poor ally.

To be fair, we should end all foreign aid except advice. Nobody helped this country build itself up. England sucked as much out of the Colonies as it believed it could without killing the goose laying the golden eggs. We can advise countries as to how they can build their economies, industry, agriculture, etc.. But they should generate the wealth necessary to do these things by themselves. Just giving them money generally ends up with the money in the pockets of people who don’t really need more of it.
I have no problem with humanitarian aid – food and medical supplies. Of course in a lot of countries the food is stolen and the medical supplies are likely sourced from China,
If aid to Israel is ended or wound down, it should be done with Israel’s acquiescence, and not under threats from Islamofascist/Muslim supremacist, Jew-hating Dhimmi-crats.

He voted against Israel because he wanted to and not because of any threats that he might have received.
In other words, the people who are threatening him are his own fellow travelers. He should reflect on what it means for him as a person to have the support of such people.

In other words, the threats against this congressman and the Supreme Court are highly effective in changing votes. I see no reason why the threats will not only continue, but will be scaled up.
I don’t see the former. I think Smith would have voted the same way without the threats. He’s perplexed as to why people are threatening him when he doesn’t require threatening. I’m sure he’s cool with threatening people like Kavanaugh, Alito, and Thomas. They aren’t with the program, so something needs to be done to get them with it.
What is there to gain for Smith to admit this? It makes him look weak and cowardly, and the neo-Nazis who now run his party will be furious they have been called out.

Rep Adam Smith has another reason to cast a vote the way he did. He is being challenged in his primary race by Kshama Sawant (a genuine, unapologetic radical socialist and open Hamas supporter). Outside of votes affecting Israel, it would be difficult to predict that a rep. Sawant would have a different voting record. While Adam Smith projects a thoughtful demeanor masking his radical positions, Sawant would be boisterously welcomed as a sister in arms by the squad. For me, the difference is one of style rather than substance.
Sawant is a notch more militant than Jayapal. This says something about the direction of the Democrat Party. No wonder people like James Carville are flipping out. They’re being made irrelevant by the result of the process they encouraged – the radicalization of their party. They foolishly thought that they could apply the brakes when the party’s Leftism reached a Golidlocks position. They were quite wrong.
Carville has been irrelevant except to the media since Clinton left office.
I’ve often told “I’m a gun owner myself” gun-control advocates that the bus will run to the end of the line regardless of where they get off, but they’re uniformly too stupid to understand that.
