Connecticut Democrats Now Urging Yale Not to Settle With Trump DOJ

This is just another example of Democrats desperate not to let Trump win.

Connecticut Dems urge Yale not to settle with Trump DOJ

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D) and New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker (D) joined Yale University students and faculty outside Yale Law School on July 10 to urge Yale University not to settle the Department of Justice investigation into the university’s admissions practices.

Blumenthal said that Yale President Maurie McInnis has spoken with him on the matter. The university submitted one settlement proposal that the DOJ rejected. It has since submitted a second proposal that remains under review.

”There’s no excuse for a settlement right now,” Blumenthal told attendees, urging Yale to continue challenging the investigation.

The press conference followed a roundtable discussion inside William L. Harkness Hall, organized by the Yale College Council, Yale College Democrats, and Yale’s chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). Speakers urged Yale administrators to reject any agreement with the Trump administration, while a podium displayed a sign reading, “Yale: Don’t Fold.”

The DOJ announced its investigation in May 2026, alleging that Yale School of Medicine’s admissions policies violated federal civil rights law by considering race in admissions. The department later expanded the investigation to include Yale’s undergraduate college and law school practices.

Earlier in July, AAUP published a letter it sent to Yale University attempting demanding Yale cease any cooperation with the Trump administration. Campus Reform previously reported that the AAUP removed the letter from the website, and then republished it at a later time.

Campus Reform offered AAUP the opportunity to comment on the republished letter’s digital presence in the course of previous reporting.
