Ted Lieu Baselessly Suggests Trump Is Receiving Experimental Drug for Terminal Disease

During a surreal press conference on Wednesday, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) floated what may be the most preposterous conspiracy theory yet from a congressional Democrat. Without offering a shred of evidence, Lieu suggested that President Donald Trump canceled the signing ceremony for the 21st Century ROAD to Housing bill because he is receiving an experimental drug for a terminal illness. He then called on the White House to “come clean,” asking, “Did Donald Trump get this special drug?”
As Mary reported on Wednesday, Trump announced on Truth Social that he will not sign the Housing Bill until Congress passes the SAVE America Act. He wrote: “Today’s Housing News Conference and Signing is hereby cancelled until such time as we pass the desperately needed SAVE AMERICA ACT, which I consider to be a National Emergency. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
But that didn’t stop the rabid anti-Trumper from stoking baseless speculation about the president’s health.
Here’s what Lieu told reporters [emphasis added]:
Inflation is up. Grocery prices are up. Utility costs are up. Housing prices are up. We have a bipartisan housing bill that both the Congress and Senate passed. There was supposed to be a big signing ceremony today in the Capitol, and then all of a sudden Donald Trump decides he’s not coming to sign the bill.
Well, why is that? Did he wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Is he unable to stay awake today? What’s causing him to chicken out again? Is it Taco Wednesday?
Or is it side effects from a drug? We don’t know.
This erratic behavior from the president is very concerning. He has trouble staying awake at multiple White House events and Cabinet meetings. He has clearly some weakness in one of his arms. He’s got swelling in his hands.
And the White House needs to come clean. What we know is there’s a report saying that one person in America got this special new drug. It was a 79-year-old person who is very high profile. And this drug can only be given to someone under the compassionate use provision, meaning you do that basically if someone has a terminal illness.
So, we need to know. Did Donald Trump get this special drug from Eli Lilly? And did he get it under that provision? And if he did, why is that the case?

Not even the colleagues who stood by Lieu’s side as he delivered his astonishing remarks appeared to be buying them.
Lieu remained silent for four years while a senile man occupied the Oval Office. Yet after hearing that an anonymous “79-year-old person” — one of countless high-profile people in a nation of 350 million — is supposedly receiving an experimental drug for a terminal illness, he leaped to the conclusion that it must be Trump because the president briefly closed his eyes during a Cabinet meeting, “clearly” has some weakness in one of his arms and some swelling in his hands. That’s the entirety of Lieu’s evidence.

To quote Hillary Clinton, Lieu’s premise requires “a willing suspension of disbelief.”

Never one to let partisan gamesmanship or blatant falsehoods go unanswered, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung wasted little time responding to Lieu’s remarks: “Ted Lewd is a dumba**. He probably spent hours laughing to himself, thinking that peddling this lie would be funny. Sadly for Ted, there’s no special new drug to cure being a b*tch.”

Lieu’s bizarre claim likely came from a June 23, 2026, STAT News report titled, Eli Lilly gave extraordinary obesity drug access to a 79-year-old patient. Who was it? Its lede reads: “Sources point to a single instance in which experimental therapy retatrutide was provided for ‘compassionate use.’”
The article begins:
Millions of Americans with obesity are eagerly awaiting a powerful new drug from Eli Lilly called retatrutide, which has demonstrated bariatric-surgery levels of weight loss. Some aren’t even waiting for approval from the Food and Drug Administration, instead racing to acquire it through sketchy means.
But STAT has learned that Eli Lilly and the FDA have allowed one person to gain access to the drug through the FDA’s “compassionate use” program, a pathway that gives patients with serious and immediately life-threatening medical issues access to experimental treatments.

It was an extraordinary leap — from a report about an anonymous 79-year-old patient receiving an experimental obesity drug under the FDA’s compassionate-use program to publicly suggesting that the president of the United States is terminally ill. Lieu offered no evidence linking Trump to the patient, no evidence that Trump received the drug, and no evidence that he suffers from a terminal illness. Yet he urged the White House to “come clean” anyway.
Baseless speculation about a president’s health isn’t just irresponsible political theater. It erodes public trust, fuels conspiracy theories, and lowers the standard of public discourse in ways that ultimately damage the country.

Donald Trump is going to die. Someday. Maybe today, most likely not. Maybe he has a terminal disease; I’m not of the mind that he must disclose every nuance of his personal life even though he’s the president. Therefore, if he’s the “extraordinary obese” 79 year old in question, good for him for getting the treatment. However, I think Ted is full of 💩 and probably needs a mental health evaluation himself.

There are certain politicians who I have zero respect for because they’ve been 100% wrong on everything they say on TV. And not just wrong, but 180 degrees from the truth, proven wrong repeatedly by facts, over and over, but they STILL get the microphone every time a TV station or other media needs a quote to support their own delusional take. Lieu joins the group of Schumer, Pelosi, Schiff, and Jeffries no matter the event.
