President Donald Trump canceled the signing of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing bill and won’t sign it until Congress passes the SAVE America Act.
“Today’s Housing News Conference and Signing is hereby cancelled until such time as we pass the desperately needed SAVE AMERICA ACT, which I consider to be a National Emergency,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
BREAKING NEWS: PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP has canceled the signing of the housing bill until Congress passes the SAVE America Act.

The housing bill passed the House, 358-32, and Senate, 85-5, with veto-proof majorities.
Trump has 10 days to sign the bill. If it goes unsigned, it could fail due to a pocket veto.
The bill cuts “some red tape to enable more housing to be built and cap the number of single-family homes institutional investors can buy at 350.”
Trump has been pushing Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, which went through the House.
However, Senate Majority Leader John Thune insists he does not have the votes to pass it.
The SAVE America Act would require an ID at the polls and proof of citizenship to register to vote.

Better rein in your RINOs.
But Thune is one of them. That’s why he got the job.
Trump is demanding Thune nuke the filibuster. No?
Yes, and that’s a non-starter. There certainly aren’t the votes for that, and there shouldn’t be.
What they should try is a bill that does nothing but require photo ID to vote. Nothing else. See if the Dems have the guts to block that.
Ooh! Now there’s some new lyrics to an old Thune!
Thune and Zune rhyme. Both failures.
IMO this bill isn’t the one to draw a red line on. Particularly since Trump has previously declared he wouldn’t sign ANY legislation until SAVE act was passed …then failed to follow through on that pledge. Politically his action in choosing this bill as the vehicle to make a stand signals that he is unconcerned about ‘affordability’ …whether that’s the case or not the d/prog and their lap dog cooperate media allies WILL pound that narrative and many will believe it. Far better to have stuck to his original pledge to refuse to sign ANY legislation and failing that make FISA reauthorization contingent on SAVE Act passage.
I think he’s using both bills at the moment. He hasn’t budged on FISA?
He hasn’t made a public pronouncement explicitly tying his willingness to sign FISA with passage of SAVE Act. What has been suggested is using FISA as a ‘must pass’ vehicle to attach SAVE Act to in order to get the Senate to pass it.
The simplest way would be for Majority leader Thune to overrule/fire the Parliamentarian if they balk at attaching SAVE Act to that or another ‘must pass’ bill like one of the appropriations bills or more likely yet another ‘reconciliation’ package since Congress seems unable to adhere to normal budget/appropriation process.
FWIW the cancellation of the signing ceremony is, in itself, performative b/c if doesn’t use a veto then it likely becomes law anyway due to ‘ten day rule’ where the President has ten days to sign and so long as Congress remains officially in session (they will) and the President doesn’t use his veto the bill becomes law automatically without his signature. IMO that’s a really bad idea for a hugely important, bipartisan heck nonpartisan bill like the Road to Housing legislation b/c it would become effective without his active assistance and remove any ability for the Trump WH to claim any credit. Especially given the d/prog drumbeat about affordability in their attempt to nationalize the midterms.
Only the Dems are allowed to play hard ball. Usually a spit ball…
I think you misspelled “sh*t”.
Thune is an invertebrate. Hey John, ever heard of the word “LEADERSHIP”?
However, Senate Majority Leader John Thune insists he does not have the votes to pass it.
Yeah, he actually does. IF he were to enforce a true filibuster. It’s not that he can’t, but that he won’t.
Yes indeed. OR he could overrule the Parliamentarian when/if they object to attaching SAVE Act to a ‘must pass’ budget bill or other legislation.
Unfortunately Thune is part of the go along/get along establishment in the Senate more concerned about being ‘nice’ and avoiding being called names than getting into mud and racking up legislative victories by kicking his opponents in the jimmy.
Enforcing a true filibuster is a lot harder than you seem to think. The burden would be all on the Republicans, not the Democrats. You’d need at least 49 Republicans committed to staying on the floor night and day to maintain a quorum, since the Democrats don’t need more than two of them on the floor, one to speak and one to keep watch on the quorum situation and call for a quorum whenever it drops below. Remember that quorum calls help the Democrats; they allow whoever’s speaking to sit down and take a break. So if the Republicans want to force the Democrat with the floor to keep speaking they have to make sure there’s always a quorum. If you haven’t got 49 Republicans willing to do that, potentially for weeks on end, then you can’t enforce the filibuster.
Also remember that if legislative day is allowed to click over then the two-speeches-per-senator rule resets, so the Republicans have to make sure it remains the same legislative day, which means no adjournments for the night.
Could we all stop sacrificing elections on the altar of pretending we won elections we lost?
It has now been 6 years and no proof at all of any wrongdoing and the FBI is under the leadership of Kash Patell.
That’s where you’re confused. There is proof.
You have the burden of proof backwards. There is no reason to believe (i.e. “proof”) that our elections are free of corruption. Given human nature, one must assume they are not.
Sure, no problem. I for one am happy to do so.
Now the ball is in your court and you need to admit that there are probably tens of millions of bad and/or legally insufficient voter registrations whose very existence provides a mechanism for d/prog shenanigans + you gotta demonstrate the willingness to get those bad registrations purged and jail EVERY single person who voted with a bad registration, knowingly entered a bad registration, refused to meet their duty to ID/remove bad voter registrations from the rolls, accepted/counted suspect ballots without further investigation or refused to fully and transparently cooperate with Federal investigations and/or preserve docs as required.
You and Danny are talking about different things. There’s no question that there are massive opportunities for fraud, and that Democrats have gone to great lengths to ensure that those opportunities continue to exist, so it stands to reason that they must have been used.
But that’s not actual proof that it happened. It’s possible that the bank doors and vault were deliberately left unlocked all night, with the alarms and cameras off, and no count was made of how much money was in the vault at closing, and yet no one broke in and nothing was stolen. That’s not how I would bet, but you can’t actually prove it didn’t happen, because you’ve deliberately made it impossible to prove.
Why is the federal government involved in housing at all. Get out of the business completely and let either the states or the private sector or both handle it.
Wait, what? Did Trump check with Milhouse and the Washington DC District Court omnipotent branch of the federal judiciary to ask if it was okay to cancel the bill signing?
Huh? Of course he can cancel anything he likes. He doesn’t have to sign anything he doesn’t want to sign. All it will mean is that it’ll become law without his signature, so he’ll miss out on the credit. I don’t know why he thinks this puts pressure on anyone.
Good for Trump. It is past time to pass the Save Act. The timid GOPe Senators will clutch their pearls in fear over the media criticism but just like the SC overturning Roe vs Wade the predictions of the sky falling are vastly overblown.
Attach the SAVE Act language to the language in this housing bill and put it up for a vote.
Get both at the same time. Or neither.
Nope. Congress is in session, so if he doesn’t sign it within ten weekdays it becomes law without his signature.
