SUNY Albany Offers Thousands in Grants for ‘Equity,’ ‘Belonging,’ and Social Justice Projects

SUNY Albany offers up to $24K for ‘equity,’ ‘belonging,’ and social justice projects
The University at Albany (UAlbany), part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, has continued to fund inclusion-focused projects through its “Division of Inclusive Excellence” office, offering individual grants up to $4,000 for initiatives centered on equity, belonging, and social justice through 2026.
The public university’s “Inclusive Excellence Transformation Awards” provide funding for projects designed to promote what the university describes as “a campus climate of equity.”
University materials say the awards support “new or ongoing programs” focused on “historically underrepresented groups,” and advancing “the university’s mission of fostering diverse and inclusive excellence.”
In 2026, the university selected six projects to receive Inclusive Excellence funding.
The university said the projects were selected because they would advance “equity and belonging across the university.”
With grants worth up to $4,000 each, the university could distribute as much as $24,000 through the initiative.
Descriptions of the projects show the university is directing grant funding toward a wide range of DEI-focused initiatives.
One project, titled “Curls in Context: Reimagining Inclusion, Education, and Entrepreneurship in the Beauty Industry,” is focused on “addressing inequities in hair care, education, access and health for people with curly hair types.”
Other projects include programming related to immigrant experiences, Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, Black literature, and poverty.
The grants are administered through the university’s Division of Inclusive Excellence, which states that its mission is to ensure that “diversity in our people and ideas drives excellence in everything we do.”
