Platner Threatens Suit Over ‘Fake Oyster Farmer’ Claim

Platner Threatens Suit Over ‘Fake Oyster Farmer’ Claim

“After weeks worth of absolutely crushing accusations against you, THIS is the thing you decide is worth threatening a defamation lawsuit over?”

Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner is threatening legal action over comments made during a recent Fox News segment questioning the legitimacy of his oyster business, prompting a wave of mockery and criticism from political observers and opponents.

The dispute stems from a June 5 appearance by Maine Wire investigative reporter Steve Robinson, who challenged Platner’s repeated campaign description of himself as an “oysterman.”

During the segment, Robinson argued that Platner’s oyster business was not what the campaign had portrayed it to be.

“I think with an individual like Platner, the first thing you have to understand is he’s proven himself to be a pathological liar from the very beginning. The oyster business, totally fake.”

Robinson went on to claim that Platner’s oyster website was created after his Senate campaign website.

“If you look at the date that his website for his fake oyster business was created, it was created after Graham for Maine, his Senate website. The entire thing is a campaign prop.”

Two days later, Platner responded on X.

“This is false and defamatory. I would have thought Fox News learned their lesson after paying Dominion $787.5 million.”

The candidate did not identify which specific factual claim he believed was false, nor did he announce any actual lawsuit.

That response quickly drew attention from critics who noted that Platner has faced weeks of negative coverage over a series of controversies surrounding his campaign.

Legal Insurrection founder William A. Jacobson responded by pointing to another issue that has generated scrutiny.

Jacobson wrote:

“How dare he call a guy with a N@zi tattoo a fake oyster farmer, has he no shame?”

Others questioned why Platner was threatening legal action instead of directly rebutting the underlying claims.

Erik Telford wrote:

“Why can’t Platner state a fact that proves the alleged falsehood? Why isn’t he suing?”

Brian Doherty mocked the response as an “Another non-denial deflection from OysterMeinKampf.”

Will Chamberlain was even more direct:

“After weeks worth of absolutely crushing accusations against you, THIS is the thing you decide is worth threatening a defamation lawsuit over?”

He added:

“I guess the rest of it is true. Have you apologized to Lyndsey yet?”

As of Sunday evening, Platner had not publicly provided evidence disputing Robinson’s claim about the timing of the oyster business website, nor had he announced the filing of a defamation lawsuit.

For now, what began as a dispute over campaign biography details has become the latest chapter in a Maine Senate race that continues to generate headlines for reasons having little to do with policy.

It is honestly gratifying to see a communist loser disintegrate like this

P-Hustle’s Mom put up the money to start his oyster farm and is his only customer. His Dad not the VA loaned him the money to buy his house. He does just lie, he lives his lies.

If his argument is that he started in by supplying his mom’s restaurant to get up and running then incorporated the business once established enough to branch out, that’s a good argument. Nothing wrong about it and he should have just said it. Lying about the VA loan for his house is strange because, again, lots of kids get money from parents for a down payment on a house or even a loan if the parents can swing it. I don’t understand the lying unless he was trying to create a persona for running for office.

“trying to create a persona for running for office.”

Exactly. History has shown that Leftists lie as easily as most people breathe. Platner is attempting to create a Potemkin facade for the purpose of acquiring political power.

George Costanza had Platner figured out years ago: “It’s not a lie if you believe it.”

Truth is still a defense against defamation claims, right? It will be interesting to see what discovery turns up.

His oyster business wasn’t fake, but it is a hobby business. That isn’t all that unusual, either.

Truth is always a defense. But when the plaintiff is a public figure, even an honest but mistaken belief that it’s true is also a defense.

What does that mean? If Platner honestly believes he is an Oyster farmer, but he’s not, he can use that belief in his defense? With logic like that you must be an attorney.

maybe hes a

rockymountain oysterman??

It obvious that Platner is an alcoholic.

Ok. When was the date of his incorporating his business? It should be easy to see. Is Platner claiming he was an oysterman for several years supplying his mom’s restaurant and just wasn’t an actual business? BTW: there is nothing wrong with that. Lot’s of kids get involved with a family business.
With all the things going on I’m surprised this is what Platner want’s a fight over or maybe it’s just misdirection on his part to pull attention away from his women abuse.

It’s only defamatory if it’s not true. And apparently Platner’s oyster business website was created nine months after his campaign website.

Will not comment on the “fake oyster business” claim only to say that might potentially get Fox News and Robinson in trouble but IANAL so who knows.

website doesn’t prove anything. When did he file with the State and get a business license?

      Paul in reply to diver64. | June 8, 2026 at 10:12 am

He would have leases and permits on file, specific to the oyster harvesting operation. He would have annual reports on file specific to oyster harvesting activities, production and environmental and health compliance. He should have a paper trail with the state that is mile long, well beyond website registration and basic business license filing.

I wouldn’t get too hung up on the website registration…. he may have been in business for a long time before registering for a website, or maybe in business under a different name… nothing unusual about that.

Similarly, I wouldn’t get too excited about the timing of the campaign website registration… perhaps this was originally registered for another person or by a firm that ‘parks’ domains for common names, or by a political party or consulting firm as soon as somebody named ‘graham’ went on a list of potential candidates.

He should. You don’t grow something in the ocean without Maine Fisheries involved. Website doesn’t mean much to me, I’d like to see the rest of what you pointed out now that he has brought up a potential lawsuit. It has to come out to verify his claims.

According to the Maine Secretary of State’s website the Frenchman Bay Oyster Company, LLC. DBA Waukeag Neck Oyster Co. was registered as a business on 12.06.2018 and is in good standing with the state of Maine.

“He’s proven himself to be a pathological liar…” AKA a Democrat.

At this point I don’t see how Platner loses the nomination. There hasn’t been a mass public turning of Communist Party satraps against him. He was well ahead in the polls when Mills dropped out, and she has done little recently except remind voters she is still on the ballot. This lawsuit threat seems to be battlespace preparation for the general election since he is trying to run as a working-class man instead of the privileged rich kid he actually is.

If Herr Comrade Platner drops in the polls before the July 14 drop dead date, the Democrats who run Maine might force him to quit by putting him in jail and offering him a plea he can’t refuse. All they gotta do is find a womyn who will charge him with rape.

I don’t see how another woman will come forward after the NY Slimes did such an effective hit piece on the woman who did come forward. Weldon Sh—house and Moron Kahannabanna and their hypocritical “All Women (except conservatives) Should Be Believed” [corrected] stance have knocked that out for the most part. So now it’s up to the general election, unless enough Democrat women say “ENOUGH”, but given the left’s psychotic level of TDS, well, not gonna happen.

I know of someone I work with who do oyster farming on land he owns in the Northern Neck (VA) as a hobby for a special tax writeoff. That is legitimate, and so is farming the oysters for his mom’s restaurant. Lots of farming is done as a sideline hobby, and it technically is a business, but he certainly wasn’t making a living farming oysters. And the rich dude who owns the island might get a special tax benefit by letting him farm oysters there.

Platner claims to be disabled with herniated discs in his back, shoulder damage and knee damage and is receiving VA disability benefits. Oyster farming is physical work. If he can do that, he’s not physically disabled.

Der Öysterführer has spoken!

First he came for the oysters and I said a lot…

Next?

Graham Plater’s campaign calls him a “working-class oysterman”. However Federal financial disclosures reveal that his oyster farm provides him with no personal salary or standard income.

The disclosure explicitly lists only one customer that paid his oyster business more than $5,000: the Ironbound Restaurant and Inn which is owned by his mother.

Platner’s primary income is a $4,800 monthly tax-free pension from the VA due to his 100% disability rating.

I wonder how much he receives in subsidies to experiment, dabble in aquaculture.

Ugly. The Boo Oyster Cult.
