Vassar College Prof Pens Op-Ed Linking Conservatives to Violence
“how conservatives use the ancient Roman Empire to justify violent ideology”
Charlie Kirk was murdered on a college campus less than a year ago. This is simply not reality.
Campus Reform reports:
Vassar promotes professor’s op-ed linking conservatives to violence
Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, promoted a Salon op-ed by one of its Greek and Roman Studies professors who argued that conservatives invoke ancient Rome to make political violence appear honorable.
The college’s official Threads account shared the April 14 op-ed by Curtis Dozier on April 26, saying the associate professor and department chair wrote about “how conservatives use the ancient Roman Empire to justify violent ideology.” Vassar’s faculty page identifies Dozier as associate professor and chair of Greek and Roman Studies.
In the op-ed, Dozier writes that politicians’ comparisons to Athens and Rome create what he calls the “‘Gladiator’ effect,” helping them make violence seem “glorious” or “virtuous.” He argues that President Donald Trump and his administration use Roman comparisons to portray immigrants as a threat to a “great” civilization.
Dozier also writes that Trump’s references to ancient Greece and Rome signal an “authoritarian bent” and that Trump uses the symbols to claim “prestige and respectability for violent politics.”
Vassar announced in March that Dozier received tenure. The college described him as an “internationally recognized expert” on extremists’ and hate groups’ use of Greco-Roman antiquity and noted that he documents those examples at Pharos: Doing Justice to the Classics.
Dozier’s Pharos site says it documents “appropriations of Greco-Roman culture by hate groups” and includes a land acknowledgment stating that the project is researched and published at Vassar, which it calls “the homeland of the Munsee Lenape people.”
The college’s promotion of Dozier’s op-ed follows comments he made to The Miscellany News after the Sept. 10 fatal shooting of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
Dozier told Vassar’s student newspaper that Kirk’s assassination signaled “a despairing citizenry” and that Kirk had made political violence a “respectable and acceptable means of discourse.” He also said he understood why some people were “relishing the irony” of Kirk’s death, but added that political violence damages efforts to live in peace.

“You conservatives are to blame for all the political violence by existing. How hard is this for you dumbass conservatives to understand!”
Dozier told Vassar’s student newspaper that Kirk’s assassination signaled “a despairing citizenry” and that Kirk had made political violence a “respectable and acceptable means of discourse.”
Of the thousands of hours of Charlie Kirk videos, can the good professor give us some examples where Charlie Kirk indicated that political violence was a “respectable and acceptable means of discourse.?”
Without splicing together statements, please.
Geez, it’s because he said things that they didn’t like and hurt their feelers! This is the prime example of the “words are violence” Morons.
YAM – Yet Another Moron!
Joey, do you like movies about… gladiators?
Joey, have you ever been in a… in a Turkish prison?
Have you ever seen a grown man naked?
Dozier’s op ed is supposedly written for an American audience but his examples are mainly drawn from the statements and actions of Rishi Sunak and Boris Johnson. How many people in the US could pick Sunak out of.a lineup?
When Dozier gets to Trump he’s just using different words for “Hombre Naranja Malo” and “mean Tweets.”
Studies show the Left support violence over and above their Conservative peers, yet Dozier pretends that the likes of Kirk’s murder is a Leftist response to the extremism of the Left?
Is this guy taking writing lessons from Goebbels? He’s literally blaming the victims for the problems!
To be clear cultural, ideological, and political violence is not exclusive to the Left, but the reporting is highly curated – the Marxist Sympathising Media censor or downplay Leftist violence, and concoct or rewrite ‘Right’ violence.

I don’t recall Trump ever referring to Greece or Rome. Did I just miss it?
My similar thought on the subject extended to all politicians and leaders on the Right, but you are correct as to the dearth of such reference. Being an expert on violence, Greece and Rome, perhaps he’s just relating his dreams?
The intellectual dishonesty of this newly tenured professor is astounding. A tomato plant would be more deserving of tenure because at least it couldn’t lie.
I’m safe! Now that i have tenure i can say stupid sh!t with impunity! Yay me!
Prof. Dozier wrote, “Most recently, current White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, who is widely recognized as the driving force behind the Trump administration’s brutal anti-immigrant and mass deportation policies, told guests at the funeral of Charlie Kirk that “Our lineage and our legacy hails back to Athens [and] to Rome.” ” Wow! The professor leaves out that the “immigrants” in question are here illegally. Secondly the professor leaves out that administration grants a free ride plus cash and no questions asked, for any illegal alien who wants to self deport – gives new meaning to the word “brutal”. Finally, the professor assumes that the illegal aliens have no agency in their situation – that is they are just minding their own business and wouldn’t the administration just leave them alone.
Regarding the White House architecture Prof. Dozier states, “… a new ballroom that will feature columns like those on the temples that the Roman Empire built to make permanent their presence in conquered lands.” This professor has not bothered to understand that the White House architecture is neoclassical – that is a architectural style that goes back to purer classical (i.e. Roman, Greek) architecture. So the professor is complaining that the new ballroom’s exterior will be consistent with the architecture of the rest of the White House!
This guy is an fool.
A fool preening for a culture of fools has no constraints on foolishness.
