Trump Endorses Ken Paxton Over Incumbent Cornyn in Texas GOP Senate Runoff

President Donald Trump endorsed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton over incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the Texas GOP Senate runoff, calling him “a true MAGA warrior.”
Trump said after the March 3 primary that whoever he doesn’t endorse should drop out.
Trump wrote on Truth Social:
The Highly Respected Attorney General of Texas, Ken Paxton, an America First Patriot, and someone who has always been extremely loyal to me and our AMAZING MAGA MOVEMENT, is running for the United States Senate, to represent a place I love and WON, BIG, three times, with 6.4 Million Votes in 2024 (The Most Votes in the History of the State, BY FAR)!
I know Ken well, have seen him tested at the highest and most difficult levels, and he is a WINNER! Ken is a Strong Supporter of TERMINATING THE FILIBUSTER and, very importantly, THE SAVE AMERICA ACT, something which polls at 87%, including Dumocrats, and yet can’t seem to get approved. Perhaps Ken can help move these important elements of Government forward because with the Filibuster, as an example, the Democrats will terminate it on their First Day in Office, giving us two extra States, D.C. and Puerto Rico, and a greatly enlarged Supreme Court of the United States, probably going with their Dream Number of 21 Justices from the 9 that we currently have — And these new Justices will be Radical Left Lunatics! John Cornyn is a good man, and I worked well with him, but he was not supportive of me when times were tough and, despite having the Most Successful Economy in the History of our Country during my First Term and, with all of the many other things that I accomplished (Secure Border, Military Dominance, Space Force, All Time High Stock Markets and 401(k)s, Record Job and Economic Growth, and so many other things that would be impossible to readily list!), which are considered by many to be legendary, John was very late in backing me in what turned out to be a Historic Run for the Republican Nomination, and then, the Presidency, itself, both of which were Landslide Victories and, more importantly, gave us the Country that we have today — THE GOLDEN AGE OF AMERICA (and when we finish up with Iran, which will not be allowed to have a Nuclear Weapon, you will see numbers that have never been generated by our Country before!), as opposed to the DISASTER of the previous Administration.

Cornyn has been in the Senate since 2002.
Cornyn received 43.1% of the votes on March 3 compared to Paxton’s 40%.
But since Cornyn did not top 50%, the race advanced to a runoff.
The winner faces Democrat nominee James Talarico. For some reason, Talarico leads in most general election polling, but not by much.
Maybe that will cool off once the GOP has a set candidate.
The Cook Political Report rated the Senate race as Likely Republican but said it would make it official if Paxton wins the nomination.
“Democrats maintain that they could make this race competitive even if Sen. John Cornyn emerges as the nominee, but we’re skeptical of that argument,” the organization wrote in its race summary.

IMHO, this is good news. Yes, Paxton has some garbage but as AS of TX, he’s taken some tough stances and won.
Cornyn has reached the point where he cannot be trusted.

The utterly evil, communist/Islamofascist Dhimmi-crats are fighting a war — rhetorically, and literally — for the soul of the U.S. These reprobates have no compunction about playing nice, or fair — they only seek to achieve and expand their political power, by any means necessary.
The execrable and greasy Thom Tillis is vacating his office, so that’s good news. The worthless and subversive Lisa Murkowski needs to go, as does Cornyn. Any GOP candidate or officeholder who isn’t willing to fight the Dhimmi-crat apparatchiks and snakes, tooth, nail and claw, needs to go away.

This is confusingly phrased. The missing context is that “Likely Republican” or “Lean Republican” is a downgrade from “Solid Republican”. That’s what Cook said it would make official.
The actual statement, which for some reason is paraphrased rather than quoted, is “If state Attorney General Ken Paxton does indeed win the Texas Republican Senate nomination on May 26, we would shift this race into the Lean Republican column.”
In other words Cook believes Cornyn has a better chance of winning, so if Paxton is the candidate it will officially downgrade Republican chances.
Believe the Cook report. I am a lifelong Texan. Paxton is hard MAGA while Cornyn is hard RINO. Paxton has the baggage of his perceived slimy tactics (generally believed to be rightfully earned.) With Trumps backing I will support Paxton in the primary run off.

Your argument assumes that the core of the GoP base which has shifted from corporatist (faux libertarian), establishment, country club types to much more center/right populist would show up in Nov to vote for a weasel rino like Cornyn. I got news for you, plenty of folks are ‘done’ with the establishment weasel rinos like Cornyn (see soon to be former Sen Cassidy) as well as the surrogates of the status quo/establishment who always preaching ‘don’t rock the boat’, instead send us $/vote for us and NEXT Time we pinky promise to deliver.

Clearly, through Paxton, Trump gave Thune an ultimatum about the Save act.
Pass it, and Paxton would withdraw and Trump would endorse Cornyn.
Thune tried to pretend that he was going to have a stupid show vote engineered to fail, and Trump told him that wasn’t good enough.
So Thune just completely dropped the mask and hasn’t even bothered to PRETEND he’s going to bring it to a vote, thinking that Cornyn could win as long as Trump didn’t actually endorse Paxton.
So Trump is shoving it up his ass.
Long past time for all these swamp RINOs to get thrown out.
And spare me the hand wringing from the establishment RINOs whining about the election. The same ones whined Trump couldn’t win either.
Agreed though I’d extend the message to the rest of the rinos in the Senate to either stop blocking actions needed to get SAVE act passed and CBP/ICE funded to get ready for a primary in ’28 against a Trump endorsed opponent.
Next critical task is Judicial Confirmations. Either get them on the bench by staying in DC 24/7 until vacancies filled or require speaking filibuster and vote a single slate of all Judicial nominees in its entirety. If the septuagenarians, the octogenarians, the sick or the lame Senators can’t keep pace with hourly roll call votes to get the d/prog to quit being obstructionist and/or expire in their attempt then these Senators should resign so a younger more fit, more determined Senator may be selected to replace them.
There is no filibuster for nominations any more. Reid killed it. And Thune rammed through batch nominations last year, over the Dems’ objections. So it’s simply been a matter of going through the process, and they just passed about 50 nominations in one go. I don’t think any of them were judges, though. But now they can start on the next 50.

Only if they thought ahead and voted in the Republican primary. If in the earlier election you got a democrat ballot you can only vote in democrat runoffs.

I have always hated voting for Cornyn. Now I get to hate voting for Paxton. Over 18 million voters in Texas, and somehow we managed to get Cornyn and Paxton. But Paxton is an infinitely better Republican than Cornyn.

Paxton has been the main target of Texas RINOs and leftists for years. For a reason. His supposed ‘baggage’ is all BS lies that already collapsed under scrutiny. If you believe Trump is a Russian agent, you’ll likely vote Cornyn. Don’t be stupid. Do some research.
All this tells me is that Paxton is way ahead in Trump’s internal polls.
Talarico not likely to win rural districts in texas, which still carry much influence in texas politics. But paxton brings his own negatives. Dems have lots of “opposition research” on paxton.
The problem for Paxton with the negatives is that they exist. The positive aspect is that they are not just public but pretty well known. He’s got some baggage but its old baggage and didn’t prevent his prior election(s) to Statewide office.
Let’s hope Cornyn does not mount a 3rd party run if he loses the primary. I can easily imagine RINO losers attempting to split the Republican vote to give their respective seats to Dems. Cassidy already voted with Dems on the War Powers Resolution.
Not a Texan here but I like Paxton regardless of his history because he’s a fighter which is something few in the GOP in Congress do.
And I’d be willing to take a Dem win too as long as it means Cornyn is gone. We’ve got to start purging the weak Republicans from office even if it means their seat is lost to the Democrats. I think even if the Democrat won the GOP could win the seat back in six years with a proper candidate.
Of course, I’d rather Paxton won so we don’t have to wait that six years.
