NYU Investigating After Flag With Swastikas and Star of David is Flown During Graduation

“We are shocked and deeply troubled that this hateful symbol expressing antisemitism was raised on a flagpole overlooking Washington Square Park”

A flag featuring the Star of David, fused with the New York University logo and flanked by two swastikas, was flown over a building owned by NYU during a graduation ceremony this week. The school is investigating.

People on Twitter/X have noted that the building chosen for this sickening demonstration is named for a Jewish donor to the school.

Given everything we have seen in the almost two years following the October 7th attacks, one might easily assume that this was perpetrated by anti-Israel activists somehow connected to the school.

From NYU’s Washington Square News:

Flag with 2 swastikas spotted on Steinhardt roof during Grad Alley

A blue flag with a Star of David, two swastikas and the letters “NYU” was waving on the roof of the Steinhardt building as hundreds of graduates and family members walked along West Fourth Street during NYU’s annual Grad Alley event shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Passersby at the outdoor celebration spotted the flag — which repeatedly moved up and down the flagpole — before it was removed around 15 minutes later. Shortly after, at least four New York City Police Department officers and five Campus Safety personnel entered the building. An NYU staff member who requested to remain anonymous told WSN the NYPD will review camera footage in the next few days and potentially investigate the incident as a hate crime.

“We are shocked and deeply troubled that this hateful symbol expressing antisemitism was raised on a flagpole overlooking Washington Square Park,” NYU spokesperson Wiley Norvell said in a statement to WSN. “Campus Safety responded immediately to remove it and we are working closely with the NYPD to identify whoever is responsible.”

The staff member said the roof is typically locked and inaccessible to students, but that campus safety or other employees may have access. They said an NYU administrator first reported the incident to the Campus Safety department, although it is unclear who took the flag down.

What did the people who carried this out think it was going to accomplish? What did they gain? If anything, it just makes them seem despicable.

Here’s a video report from CBS News:

The mainstreaming of antisemitism in America over the last few years has been a disgusting thing to behold.

Investigate away! LOL. They will do no such thing.

They’ll “investigate” just long enough for the incident becomes page ten news and then will quickly and quietly drop the whole matter. Guaranteed.

What did the people who carried this out think it was going to accomplish? What did they gain? If anything, it just makes them seem despicable.

If they go unpunished or even unidentified they gain a lot. It would mean that blatant antisemitism can operate with impunity on campus. And if they are caught and punished there will be a depressingly large percentage of students and faculty who would regard them as righteous heroes.

Universities are increasingly becoming fortresses of antisemitism and bigotry- with the tacit approval of university administrators.

What does the flag actually mean and why?
1. Jews are Nazis?
2. Nazis are Jews?
3. The Jews have been running the Nazis like they do the rest of the world?
4. The flag is stupid and people who get hurt feelings over a swastika being displayed should eat fewer carbohydrates and more beef and butter?

I think Mayor Mamdani maybe loaned out some items from his personal collection to these students? Having “hurt feelings over a flag” is not the issue it’s the continued normalization of hate and bigorty against Jews while people look the other way, justify it and then blame Jews for it. Obviously the statement was trying to call Jews the new Nazis, and that has been a regular theme of the “antizionist” crowd which is why they bleat out “genocide” and “apartheid” with ever other word their idiot mouths form. Having to graduate with Nazi imagery is disgusting and no one would expect black students at NYU to put up with someone flying the Ku Klux Klan flag during their graduation ceremony. Why only Jews are expected to put up with this endless barage of hatred is beyond my comprehension.

The level of constant harassment of individuals and the unending provocations, like display of this flag at a graduation event, should not be tolerated. Especially not by leaders who claim to be interested in preserving civil society v allowing degeneration into warring tribes/factions in tit for tat escalation and retribution. If the leadership of Univ in blue jurisdictions fail to quash this crap then maybe the current/potential Students and their Parents should consider attending Univ elsewhere who will welcome them. Go where you’re appreciated instead of remaining where you’re, at best, resented.

You get used to seeing swastikas if you’ve spent time in SE Asia. Has nothing to do with Germany or Nazis. Maybe it’s a Buddhist showing solidarity with Israel. /s

I’m not shocked at all that such a flag was shown,

The scary fact is that they are “investigating” at all.

The flag – as despicable as it may be – is still protected under the First Amendment.
