Michigan House Primary Candidate: ‘Quit Thanking the Troops for Sacrificing Their Lives’

Michigan House Primary Candidate: ‘Quit Thanking the Troops for Sacrificing Their Lives’

“I don’t want to thank these men and women who join the military because they had no other option. Like, they didn’t want to go to school. … They don’t have the knowledge.”

Across the country, many Americans will gather this weekend to remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to the nation. Shelby Campbell, however, will not be among them. Campbell is a candidate in Michigan’s Democratic primary for the 13th Congressional District, which includes portions of Detroit and some of its suburbs.

She has built her campaign around provocation — relying on edgy rhetoric, inflammatory stunts, and degrading online content to attract attention. Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, she released a new video urging voters to “quit thanking the troops for sacrificing their lives” for their country.

Campbell has since deleted the video. But not before it was published by X account Libs of TikTok:

In the brief clip below, the candidate says:

Quit thanking the troops for sacrificing their lives. Let’s start saying, ‘Hey Government, how about you go fight these wars if you decide.’

I don’t want to thank these men and women who join the military because they had no other option. Like, they didn’t want to go to school. They didn’t have the resources. They don’t have the knowledge. They don’t have people to like, love them. And, [yawning] they go into the military. Military preys on more rural populations.

This woman plainly has no idea what she is talking about, but the fact that she chose to record and publish such vile remarks tells voters everything they need to know about her judgment.

Users on X seemed less outraged than bewildered by her foolish attempt to generate attention for her campaign:

One day later, she posted another video that was just as offensive — and, remarkably, it remains online.

The backlash was fast and furious:

In another, she recorded herself twerking in her family room:

In a Monday expose, Michigan media outlet Firstpost reported that in a recent video, she can be seen “twerking and crouching on a kitchen counter before declaring, ‘I am an ethical person. I am a classy b**ch, am I not?'”

In another, she says, “White ladies, I’m glad that we are becoming the enemy to the white man as well. I’m proud of you. Now let’s get it, girls.”

She has also made incendiary remarks about Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

Campbell’s campaign website appears ordinary enough. Aside from a few odd — though not risqué — outfit choices, it reads much like what you’d expect from a populist candidate. According to her biography, she was “raised in a working-class household where hard work wasn’t a slogan—it was survival.” She touts her experience in the service industry and on the assembly line and notes that she comes “from a third-generation UAW family that taught me early on what real solidarity means.”

She is a working-class woman and a mother “who has lived the outcomes of policies made without people like us at the table.”

I know what it means to clock in, to raise a family under economic pressure, and to watch decisions made far away ripple through our lives with no accountability. That’s why I’m running for Congress — to bring real-world experience, transparency, and working-class values into a system that has long prioritized profit over people.

This campaign is funded by everyday people, not lobbyists or billionaires. It’s about collective power, shared responsibility, and leadership that actually reflects the communities it serves.

It raises an obvious question: why does she believe that videos of herself twerking and referring to herself with crude language will resonate with voters? Rather than reinforcing a serious political message, the clips risk distracting from whatever policy arguments she hopes to make.

She is running to unseat Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI), who is something of a strange bunny as well. The primary will be held on August 4, but so far, there appears to be no meaningful polling for this race.

Still, it’s hard to imagine she’ll come anywhere close to winning her primary. As one social media user put it: “Bro, this is her actual campaign strategy? Twerking in the living room for votes in 2026 Single mom energy mixed with OnlyFans audition. Michigan really out here picking leaders like this? Policy? Nah, just vibes and squats. The bar is in hell at this point.”

You get praise for going when you’re called, not for dying.

I usually don’t say stuff like this, especially to someone like you, but, maybe you should just sit this one out and shut the fuck up…

You do realize that the Federal Holiday of Memorial Day is on Monday, the 25th of May? You know, the holiday selected by Congress to specifically honor Service Members who died in defense of the Nation.

Tell me you don’t know dick about those who serve without telling me you don’t know dick about those who served.

Screw you. I didn’t join the Navy cause I had no other options. I joined because I wanted a challenge and I got it. 25 years as a Russian linguist and cryptologic intelligence officer. Pretty damn challenging and for the most part I loved it. I should have been paying the Navy instead of the other way around.

And there are tons of servicemen and women who are HIGHLY educated and I’m sure would run rings around this idiot.

Keep your mouth shut. You’ll come off smarter that way.

“Like… try saying this to a Gold Star mom”

My wife is a Gold Star mom and I am not going to show her this news report. She misses her son every single day and as a result of his death, we are raising three grandchildren who also miss their father every single day.

Although Shelby Campbell is trash (apologizing to trash for the reference), she will still probably get votes although Shri Thanedar, strange as she is, will probably hold on through the primary and election given the voting population in Detroit.

Massachusetts looks like their primary isn’t until Sept.
And if like Philadelphia the Democrat/ Marxist primary is as good as in.

Shri wants to abolish ICE and the 2nd Amendment.

It sounds like Ms Campbell pretty much sums up how mainstream white, educated Dem women regard U.S. military personnel, past and present. She is just less deceptive than most.

For some strange reason, she reminds me a little of Irma Grese, the notorious Nazi female concentration guard.

Maybe it’s because of her complete lack of humanity, among other things.

Then again, that could describe any leftist these days….

Always fascinating to see how predictably prejudiced the wokiesta leftists are as they reveal just how many of ‘their truths’ that just ain’t so. There’s plenty of young Soldiers who join to fulfill their Family legacy of military service, they do one enlistment and go back to the civilian world to get on with their lives. I’ve had occasions during GWOT where I had several JR Enlisted working for me who had Masters Degrees. The reasons for joining are varied and trying to pigeonhole Service Members into ‘had no other options’ is as elitist as it is incorrect. I suspect the real answer is she’s using military service as a proxy to bash the ‘patriarchy’. Feminist AWFLs never seem to let an opportunity to be critical of traditional masculinity pass them by, even where they gotta manufacture one.

High school was boring and one year of college just an extension of high school, so I enlisted and got the technical training in several avionics fields that set me on the path for a fulfilling life. This woman thinks her ignorance gives her authority and credibility. It gives her neither.

Eight years RegAF and sixteen years AlAirNG. I value every moment and the friendships I still enjoy. She has few if any. Sorry for her.

Does anyone think that SHE could make it in a disciplined, intelligent, structured environment like the US military? The troops would get together and either paint a target on her, in bright orange with metal strips and speakers attached playing loud music; OR just hand her over and say “we will not be coming back for HER!’

That is so offensive. Anyone who voluntarily joins our military and passes through all the training to serve, deserves to be applauded and respected. I worked as a military psychologist for many years and can honestly say my clients were very intelligent, hard working and humble people. Some of them came from poor backgrounds and yes had limited options but they were not lacking in brains or effort. Some of them came from wealthy or middle class backgrounds and wanted that lifestyle and wanted to serve despite having other choices. People have no idea how hard our service members work and what we ask of them. We degrade our police and treat them like garbage, it was only a matter of time before the same idiot politicians started to target the military the same way.

Cultural appropriation is different when Democrats do it.
