WHCA Dinner Shooting Occurred as DHS and Secret Service Have Been Unfunded for More Than 70 Days
“a lapse driven by Democrats blocking funding bills and rejecting multiple GOP-backed proposals to reopen the department”
As the details continue to unfold on the shocking shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner this weekend, it is important to note that this occurred at a time when the DHS, and by extension the Secret Service, have been unfunded for more than seventy days now.
It is way past time for Democrat leaders in the House and Senate to grow up, put aside their stupid and petty ‘resistance’ tactics, and fully fund DHS. They are putting people’s lives in danger.
FOX News reports:
Secret Service in line of fire at WHCA shooting still unpaid due to Dem-led shutdown
A shooting near President Donald Trump and several Cabinet members Saturday night is putting a spotlight on the Secret Service’s funding shortfall amid an ongoing standoff in Congress.
A gunman opened fire outside the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C., where celebrities, members of the press and administration officials had gathered, prompting a swift security response. The suspect is in custody and has not been identified. One Secret Service agent was reportedly shot in their protective vest but is uninjured.
The incident unfolded near a security screening area, prompting a rapid response from Secret Service agents and law enforcement.
The shooting comes amid a more than 60-day funding stalemate in Congress over the Department of Homeland Security — a lapse driven by Democrats blocking funding bills and rejecting multiple GOP-backed proposals to reopen the department.
The funding standoff centers on disputes over immigration enforcement policy and has raised concerns about resources for agencies including the Secret Service, FEMA and the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Secret Service, which is responsible for protecting the president, vice president, their families and other senior U.S. officials, along with visiting heads of state, has faced growing demands in recent years.
The incident adds to a growing list of threats against Trump, including two confirmed assassination attempts and a recent incident involving an armed intruder at Mar-a-Lago.
Scott Jennings talked about this on CNN this morning and added that conservatives feel like they’re under attack. Watch:
I've been on the air live twice now when someone has tried to kill the President. I worry about President Trump every day. I worry about these events.
The fact that DHS has been unfunded for 70 days in this environment is outrageous. Every American should be outraged by it. pic.twitter.com/sy9wO1K8QX

The best time to show your gratitude and fund DHS was 71 days ago.

🚨Following last night’s assassination attempt against @POTUS Trump at the WHCD, the House Oversight Committee has requested a briefing from U.S. Secret Service.
DHS, including Secret Service, has been unfunded for more than 70 days now.
It’s time to stop the games & fund DHS.

Get your ass back to Washington and fund DHS. https://t.co/cnohzEOAND

It is obvious that we need increased security for President Trump and everyone else on his team. If Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer don’t get with the program, they could eventually become responsible for something that could lead this country down a very dark path.

Remove all secret service protection from past presidents. They can fend for themselves until such time as the democrats decide to fund the secret service.
While they are at it they can remove secret service protection from all congressman. They can use their million dollar campaign funds to buy their own security. I don’t want to pay for theirs.
While I agree 100% with your statement and position, it will never work. I’ve known 2 Secret Service personnel and they are the single most dedicated people I’ve ever met. They’d just keep working their detail no matter how long they didn’t get paid. The only thing I know that would make them stand down are 1) an order directly from the President and 2) proof that their charge is a traitor.
Which, come to think of it….
Better yet, the Republicans should announce that due to attrition in the ranks, all Secret Service protection personnel issued to Democrats are being reassigned to Republicans.
I get it. Yet…
A fully funded SS failed to intercept Thomas Crooks, and that was after:
He was seen scouting locations within the security perimeter.
He was seen/photographed using a phone and rangefinder tool.
Numerous people called attention to a man crawling on the roof of a nearby building.
Yeah, but in fairness, that was Joe’s DEI Secret Service, not Don’s dewoked one.
I’m still wondering why Oz didn’t see it coming.
Anyone know why the guy is at least topless and may be naked in that picture of him in custody? They covered his lower half in a space blanket so I’m assuming he was missing pants too.
Immediately after apprehending him, they probably stripped him to make sure he didn’t have anything else on him. A Suicide Vest, Pants, etc.
Frankly, I could almost wish that they used a robot to stuff him in a bomb-proof container (TCV) and detonated it.
They found multiple knives on him. Instant field strip search.
For the majority here who think the SS did a splendid job, the great Mark Steyn thinks your full of bullocks and they are unredemable…

As I wrote the day after Butler:
Let’s cut to the chase – the US Secret Service: In on it? Or just totally crap?
I don’t think it’s possible to be this rubbish this often. If the object of a thing is, as they say, its outcome, then the object of the United States Secret Service these last two years is to enable the increasing number of Trump-deranged persons to take a potshot at him. But, even if you incline to cock-up rather than conspiracy, their dysfunction is unreformable.
[UPDATE! “Known wolves” aren’t just for Islam anymore: a relative called in the name of the shooter before the dinner but the lethargic bureaucracy could not rouse itself to act even though he was registered at the Hilton under his real name.]
Had this been a bomb-laden suicide mission…. a lot worse result.
“He wasn’t on our radar, only our voicemail.”
