Swalwell Plans to Resign From Congress Amid Sexual Assault, Misconduct Allegations

Swalwell Plans to Resign From Congress Amid Sexual Assault, Misconduct Allegations

No, Swalwell has not resigned.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) announced his intention to resign from Congress after numerous sexual assault and misconduct allegations spilled out in less than a week:

His statement (emphasis mine):

“I am deeply sorry for my family, staff and constituents for mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past. I will fight the serious, false allegation made against me. However, I must take responsibility and ownership for the past mistakes I did make.

I am aware of efforts to bring an immediate expulsion vote against me and other members. Expelling anyone in Congress without due process, within days of an allegation being made, is wrong. But it’s also wrong for my constituents to have me distracted from my duties. Therefore, I plan to resign my seat in Congress.

I will work with my staff in the coming days to ensure they are able, in my absence, to serve the needs of the good people of the 14th Congressional district.”

Key word: PLAN.

Wording is everything. The statement isn’t a resignation letter. Swalwell has not resigned.

Using the word “plan” gives Swalwell a potential out and allows him to retain his seat.

This is the man who ran for president and for California governor, having to withdraw from the latter race due to these allegations.

Plans not “resigns”. I wonder what Extorsion he has in the works to step down. How much is he demanding from Democrats anxious that he just go away? Swalwell is in the drivers seat in that regard but those rape allegations…he might go to prison over them.

BTW: If the allegations weren’t true he wouldn’t have resigned. Even if they were true he wouldn’t resign. My guess is there are a lot more serious allegations waiting in the wings and he was essentially allowed to plea bargain so they weren’t exposed.

The secret allegations remind me of an old IBM 7090 mainframe story in the 60s. Princeton’s 7090 was threatened by flooding after a huge rain, so the computer head called the fire department to get pumps. The fire department guy said that they didn’t do floods, only fires. The computer guy asked “How big a fire do you need?”

Meaning that the secret allegations are fake just to get past the bureaucracy.

“I am deeply sorry for my family, staff and constituents for mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past.”

If you read this carefully, it’s by no means an apology.

“I will fight the serious, false allegation made against me.”

Presumably this references the accusations of sexual assault, but…

“However, I must take responsibility and ownership for the past mistakes I did make.”

And what mistakes would those be, congressman, if not the accusations of sexual impropriety?

Reminds me of Lt. Caffery asking Col. Jessup why the two conflicting orders because someone has ordered a Code Red on Swalwell, that’s for sure.

And what mistakes would those be, congressman . . .

The one democrats haven’t released but will do so if Swalwell doesn’t give up his gubernatorial ambitions and also resign from Congress. Those mistakes. Which the democrat leadership surely must know about.

As soon as I saw the statement on X the “plan to” jumped right out. He’s not resigning. This is a way to stop the vote in Congress. They need to move forward anyway.

Swalwell is resigning

He’s resigning from congress the same as Ayatollah resigned from being supreme ruler —- dead in the water, blew up in his face, people dancing in the streets.

I sense the influence as well of a really pissed off wife who likely will no longer be welcomed in certain circles. Since both her parents were dentists, I’m guessing she knows how to inflict pain.

My creep detector went off for this guy as soon as he started getting national press. Lefty doesn’t seem to have any intuition for these guys. Turns out, he’s a cross between Bill Cosby and Anthony Weiner.

The woman in that photo looks like Phoebe Cates in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Swalwell really gets a around.

Why are these allegations suddenly coming out now? I mean… we’ve know about Swalwell for a while.

Now, because 2 Republicans are winning the CA gov race and the Democrats are eating each other to winnow the field. If the field does not consolidate, 2 Republicans will head to the general election.

Swalwell doesn’t have much to worry about. He can always formally go on the CCP payroll as it’s paid lobbyist. It won’t amount to much of a roll change for him.

“plans to resign”

“takes full responsibility”

Just words.

R’s need to expel him. They’d get a good % of D’s voting for this. The D’s have thrown him under the bus because they are desperate to reduce the number of D candidates in the CA Governor’s “jungle” primary – currently led by two R’s.

Swalwell announced his resignation from the House of Representatives on April 13, 2026.

“But it’s also wrong for my constituents to have me distracted from my duties.”

Guess he’s not a multitasker… like Donald Trump.

CNN had this story in 2017, but refused to name names, and then “forgot” about it.

https://www.cnn.com/2017/11/14/politics/sexual-harassment-congress

“More than half a dozen interviewees independently named one California Congressman for pursuing female staffers.”

“CNN is not naming either of those lawmakers because the stories are unverified.”

Weird, CNN has NEVER had any qualms about running unverified stories about anyone even slightly right of center. Plus, if you’ve got six independent witnesses willing to talk, how hard could it possibly be to verify their claims?

If only CNN employed, what are they called? Oh yeah: journalists.

“I was planning to resign from Congress but now that the furor has died down I guess I’ll serve out my term”

Dude’s a sleaze and always has been. He should have been forced out of Congress over Fang Fang but Dems didn’t care as long as he voted the right way and attacked Trump. I’m more interested in that House slush fund used to pay off sexual harassment claims in secret and who used those funds. Let’s see a list of the Congressmen who pulled taxpayer hush money for that use.

    Milhouse in reply to diver64. | April 14, 2026 at 7:40 am

There was never any “House slush fund used to pay off sexual harassment claims in secret”. Congress, like any large employer, has a fund set aside to settle employee lawsuits of all kinds. Sexual harassment claims are just one of dozens of kinds of lawsuit that an employee might bring.

Congress has thousands of employees, many of whom never even see a congressman in the course of their work. One of them has a slip and fall, that’s a lawsuit. One of them thinks they were discriminated against, that’s a lawsuit. One of them claims to have been sexually harassed by their supervisor, or by one of their colleagues, none of whom are congressmen, that’s a lawsuit. And they’re all settled out of this fund.

isfoss in reply to Milhouse. | April 14, 2026 at 9:19 am

IOW, you are saying that any time a member of Congress is accused of sexual harassment it becomes public knowledge, i.e., a lawsuit, and that The Fund has never been used to pay off any claims for sexual harassment or the like when it involves member of Congress. Sure, I’ll believe that.

Keep in mind that until Swalwell actually has resigned, the House Ethics investigation continues.

Also keep in mind that the Manhattan DA investigation is led by—Alvein Bragg.

“Plans to?” That means he hasn’t actually resigned…. Pelosi has to weigh in first. This is not the slam dunk it appears to be. The Democrats are at work here.

he probably shouldn’t travel to arkansas–imagine all the nefarious activities of obama, clinton ,newsom, pelosi, schumer, fjb, et al he’d be able / willing to confirm in a plea deal to save his own sorry ass

Poor Eric. Looks like they ran out of tax paid hide-degenerate-behavior slush funds.
