FBI Raids Minneapolis Child Care Facilities Connected to Fraud Investigations

Fox News’s Bill Melugin learned that the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations have raided over 20 Minneapolis child care facilities connected to massive fraud investigations.

BREAKING: DOJ confirms to @FoxNews that FBI and HSI agents are currently raiding 20+ locations in the Minneapolis, MN area in relation to ongoing federal fraud investigations. Sources tell FOX the locations are largely Somali linked businesses, including the infamous “Quality Learning Center”. I’m told these are court approved search warrants being served and they are tied to fraud, not immigration enforcement. Fox is told 22 search warrants were executed in Minnesota this morning.

The raids have nothing to do with immigration.
In December, independent journalist Nick Shirley exposed several empty Somali-owned childcare facilities, including one called Quality “Learing” Center.
A few days later, DHS and ICE inspected over 30 sites suspected of fraud, but also investigated a “little bit of everything.”
In March, the Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families discovered that Minnesota’s child care agency never verified attendance centers or followed up on any fraud tips.
HHS has already frozen child care payments to Minnesota due to allegations of daycare fraud.

4. Income Tax Discrepancies: IRS can track everything these days
5. Digital Footprints using data analytics to cross-reference multiple programs

This FBI raid targets Rep Omar and AG Ellison due to suspicion they received money from the Somali Feeding Our Children scandal.
There are two conflicting points on this. They’re both right.
–First is the Common People. We see the “Learing Center” videos, the piles of vehicles which are supposedly being used for elderly and infirm transport, fake day cares, and we’re terribly upset nothing is being done. Under Dems, there are investigations being conducted that run years and of course we can’t comment on an ongoing investigation until they end and nobody gets arrested and the fraud money just evaporated, imagine that.
–Second, we have the career prosecutors who know how long it takes to build a case, investigate a crime, run the whole thing through the courts, get a conviction, and swat down the appeals. Having a teenager with a camera throw rocks through your carefully built case before you can make an arrest is frustrating.
I’m on the side of the Common Schlub here. The prosecution likes to come out and display the one or two criminals they’ve bagged in these frauds, while literally billions in cash are being shoveled out of the country by fleeing fraudsters and covered for by local politicians who have been bribed (Yes, I’ll use the word) to look the other way and block investigations. This operation is only going to catch the criminally stupid fall guys. The smart fraudsters already cashed out, shipped that cash home, and are living large overseas. The *really* smart fraudsters are the ones who organized the paperwork for the fraudsters, claiming to be legitimate while pocketing their share in untraceable cash. Crack one of these hard nuts and the rest is all downhill.

Feds are off to a good start prosecuting fraud:
1. In the related $250 million Feeding Our Future scandal, federal prosecutors have already charged 92 people, resulting in 67 convictions so far.
2. Recent Guilty Pleas: Last month the owner of a St. Cloud autism center pleaded guilty to wire fraud for a similar $6 million scheme.
Well not to denigrate the investigations and prosecutions, I fear that the fraudsters will likely receive little to no real punishment. Even if some ultimately receive a short sentence, they have squirreled so much out of the country that they may end up being richly compensated for time served. And of course, it is particularly galling that Walz, Omar and Ellison are likely to walk away relatively unscathed.
