Trump Wants Letitia James to Hand Over Communications With Michael Cohen

President Donald Trump’s lawyers demanded New York Attorney General Letitia James hand over all communications between her and Michael Cohen after he claimed he was coerced into testifying against his former client.
The Appellate Division, First Department, overturned the almost $500 million civil fraud penalty judgment against Trump in August 2025.
James has already asked the New York State Court of Appeals to reinstate the penalty.
Trump’s team has to file a brief in response to James’s request in one month.
I imagine the team finds the communications between James and Cohen critical for their brief:
The attorneys noted that Cohen’s testimony “is at the heart of the NYAG’s case” and “prompted” James’ office to launch the “politically charged” investigation of Trump, his family and their businesses.
They explained that Cohen’s alleged communications with James’ office are “vital” as they decide whether to file a motion to vacate the judgment.
For example, Cohen told the court that he inflated Trump’s assets with ex-Trump Organization chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg.
In January, Cohen accused the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and James of coercing and pressuring him to testify in two New York cases against Trump:
Cohen, in a bombshell Jan. 16 Substack post, accused James and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of forcing him to testify against Trump in their civil fraud and “hush money” cases against the now-sitting president.
“I felt compelled and coerced to deliver what they were seeking,” Cohen wrote. “Letitia James and Alvin Bragg may not share the same office or political calendar, but they share the same playbook.”
“From the time I first began meeting with lawyers from the Manhattan DA’s Office and the New York Attorney General’s Office in connection with their investigations of President Trump, and through the trials themselves, I felt pressured and coerced to only provide information and testimony that would satisfy the government’s desire to build the cases against and secure a judgment and convictions against President Trump,” he added.
Cohen said he could tell that James’s team wanted his testimony to harm Trump.
“In emails and a meet-and-confer, the NYAG has taken the untenable position that (i) the NYAG ‘doesn’t know’ whether such Cohen Records exist (i.e., it has no idea whether it has records of its communications with its key witness); (ii) the NYAG will not even take a short amount of time to determine whether it possesses any Cohen Records, apparently because, in the NYAG’s mistaken view, discovery is over,” Trump’s lawyers wrote in the document.
Trump’s lawyers also fear that James has not preserved the communications, alerting the court that all the documents “are in danger of being ‘automatically deleted and purged.'”

Cohen is not just a slimy turncoat, he’s also a craven weasel.
Tell me he was disbarred. In any other profession he’d would’ve been stripped of his license to contract services.
The prosecution gave him a simple choice: betray his client by reading the script the prosecution provided or spend a few decades in prison and have every penny stripped from him in bankruptcy. He chose to read the script, and he *can’t* admit to that now or that will break his plea bargain and put him in jail for potentially decades.
