Mamdani’s Volunteer Snow Shovelers Will Need Several Forms of ID to Sign Up

“This is Jim SNOW 2.0.”

Towards the end of January, when a large part of the country was hit with a winter storm that dumped a lot of snow along its path, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was seen out on the streets shoveling snow, with cameras conveniently nearby, all to show he was committed to helping residents get back to their daily lives.

But while his technique earned mixed reviews…

…any praise was soon met with widespread criticism as the homeless death toll in NYC from the winter weather reached 19 amid Mamdani’s steadfast refusal to clear dangerous homeless encampments, despite the substantial health risks to the homeless and Big Apple citizens alike.

Another snowstorm is about to hit New York City over the next few days, and forecasters are saying it could be the biggest blizzard there since 2017.

Mamdani held a press conference on Saturday to discuss storm prep and ways NYC residents could help their neighbors. One option he mentioned was for people to sign up to be paid “emergency snow shovelers”:

We’re utilizing 33 DSNY vans and two DSNY buses to transport shovelers where they’re needed, faster.

And for those who want to do more to help your neighbors and earn some extra cash, you, too, can become an emergency snow shoveler. Just show up at your local sanitation garage between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. tomorrow with your paperwork, which is accessible online at nyc.gov/snow, and you can get started right away.

Watch:

As of 6 p.m. Saturday, around 1,000 volunteers had signed up to be emergency snow shovelers:

But what was the paperwork volunteers needed to sign up? Oh, just two photos and three forms of identification:

To be eligible, applicants must be:

  • At least 18 years old
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Able to perform heavy physical labor

To register for an appointment, workers must have:

  • Two small photos (1-1/2 inch square)
  • Two original forms of ID, plus copies
  • Social Security card

Just as a reminder, Mamdani’s political party, the Democratic Socialists of America, expressly opposes voter ID requirements in any form:

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) New York chapter, of which Mamdani is a member and which enthusiastically endorsed the mayor, has strongly advocated against voter ID requirements in elections. The DSA has even called recent election integrity legislation a “campaign to reverse the gains of the Civil Rights Movement and marginalize working-class Americans” — yet Mamdani’s emergency labor push requires would-be shovelers to arrive with identification and paperwork in hand.

Needless to say, the jokes just wrote themselves:

Author and legal scholar Ilya Shapiro quipped that “This is more onerous than Georgia’s voting law, which Biden labeled not just Jim Crow 2.0 but Jim Eagle. I guess Mamdani is running a Jim Albatross operation!”

Sure sounds like it!

Your rules, Democrats. Your rules.

They’ll probably also have to fill out a Form W-9 (Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification) so that withholding can be done and the would-be worker will file a tax return. And being NYC which has its own income tax law, the would-be worker is subject to federal, state and city income tax.

I have a simple solution. The Antifa mobs have a lot of pent up energy and someone has already paid for them anyway. Why not put them to work?

They have no interest in real work. But they find setting things on fire, throwing cement, and annoying and interfering with law enforcement very satisfying.

Oh yeah, those noodle armed, limp wristed pansies will do a great job; they might be marginally faster than spring melting.

Of course, if you said the storm was PRESIDENT Trump’s fault…

In cities like Montreal, snow removal is one of their core competencies. Dump three feet of snow on them and in ten days it’s completely gone from city streets.

In cities like Philly & NYC, they bolt wimpy snow plows on the front of sanitation trucks and leave the plows down as they pick up trash.

So NYC is already in trouble before it starts snowing.

Then the socialist jihadist shows up and makes it worse.

I’m envisioning a comedy skit (not on SNL, which is no longer funny) involving someone shoveling to get to the polls to vote.

You just can’t make this stuff up. No one would believe it.

New Yorkers (those who actually voted) get what they deserve, good and hard.

“You too can become an emergency snow shoveler. Just show up at your local sanitation garage between 8am and 1pm tomorrow with your paperwork.”

Long ago and far a way, I heard words like that-through translators- and I read words like that-through interpreters. Never in English and here until the last year or so. They are coming and even here.

So rich it makes one gag. How many people can even locate their SS card?
Meanwhile, no ID for voting.

If those are the rules, guess blacks won’t be shoveling (according to the Democrats).

I’ve got mine, both birth certificates, old passport, and baptismal record. Plus HS/BA/JD/MLS degrees. And VA voter ID. And the REAL DL.

Commie Mamdamdi wants the get NYers used to having to show “papers, please” for anything. Aside from voting Commie.

We can add volunteer snow shoveling to the list of everyday activities requiring a State Issued ID in the modern world; banking, buy alcohol, picking up prescriptions, buy tobacco, rent a vehicle, buy a home, rent an apartment, board a commercial flight, job application, gov’t welfare application….

It’s not hypocrisy, it’s hierarchy. This marxist meat puppet is simply trolling y’all with ID to shovel snow. You realize that, yes? He is rubbing everyone’s nose in his duplicitous sh!t.

This is Jim Crow 3.0

The eliminates classes of people. You know all those that can’t get ID to vote. RACIST

Something else from the democrats that President Trump should loudly mock at the State of the Union. He’s really spoiled for choice.

Who is going to supervise where, how, and for how long these newby snow (and sht) shovelers work? Realize the entire enterprise is ridiculous.

(Meanwhile, here in my part of Florida, building owners are responsible for keeping the sidewalks, driveways, and swales adjacent to their premises clean and clear of debris. We don’t have snow, but wouldn’t that be more efficient?)

I think you’re not required to show three IDs to freeze to death in the New York City snow.

So…..How much does this pay?

Are taxes withheld?

Are union dues required?

What are the hours?

Can I apply to be supervised?

Who do I sue if/when I wrench my back and am permanently disabled?

So many questions unanswered.

Ironic.

2 IDs for the privledge of shoveling? Zero ID for the privledge of voting. Yup that makes sense to the socialist crowd I’m sure. Next up 3 forms of ID, background check and proof of citizenship for the privledge of making below minimum wage working as a school crossing guard. But zero ID needed to drive a tractor trailer, operate construction equipment and heavy machinery. Get those priorities in line New York your warm socialist paradise awaits.

While it is fun to dunk on Mayor Commie Theater Kid and the wording in his announcement was bit confusing, seriously, what part of “earn some extra cash” is hard to understand? You even state “One option he mentioned was for people to sign up to be *paid*” (emphasis added), The last time I checked, being paid to do something is not being a volunteer so why do you keep referring to the snow shovelers as ‘volunteers’? What is unusual about having to provide tax identification for a paid position?

It is NYC so by the time all taxes and future Union dues are removed, the shovellers will end up owing money, hence, worse than being a volunteer. Probably no hot chocolate as well.
