DHS Shutdown Freezes ICE Oversight the Democrats Crave

The Democrats don’t think things through, do they?

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The Democrats thought they could win their fight against ICE and President Donald Trump by denying a bipartisan deal to fund DHS.

The leftists have demanded that the Trump administration instill stricter oversight of ICE, especially after the shootings in Minnesota.

Well, Fox News learned that the DHS Office of the Inspector General (OIG) had to pause most of its audits and inspections due to the DHS shutdown:

“Most of OIG’s audits, inspections, and similar reviews… are paused during the lapse in appropriations. A small number of OIG audits related to disaster relief continue because they are supported by an extant appropriation,” the spokesperson said.

“OIG’s Criminal Investigators are excepted from furlough and are continuing their work during the lapse. OIG does not publicly confirm or deny the existence of any particular criminal investigation.”

Probes that have been paused include determining “whether ICE investigates allegations of use of excessive force and holds personnel accountable” and conducting “unannounced inspections to assess compliance with ICE detention standards and ensure safe, secure, and humane conditions of confinement,” according to the spokesperson.

An investigation into whether Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents are conducting domestic U.S. operations in accordance with DHS policies and federal law has also been halted.

Yes, that means the investigation into the CBP agents who shot and killed Alex Pretti during a Minneapolis protest is likely paused.

The OIG warned the Democrats days ago that the shutdown could affect the office.

The Democrats shutdown the OIG while their moves do not affect ICE, which received appropriated funds in the Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Aren’t they a small group!?

The Democrats want “judicial warrants to execute iCE enforcement actions,” to ban masks on ICE agents, and require agents to wear obvious identification.

The Republicans have said no way to those demands.

The Democrats also want to end random sweeps and ban ICE from “sensitive locations.”

The Democrats want “judicial warrants to execute iCE enforcement actions,” to ban masks on ICE agents, and require agents to wear obvious identification.

As I understand it, agents do wear identification, but it only identifies them as agents, not as individuals. When they arrest someone, that person is on adequate notice that he is not being attacked by a street gang, but is being arrested by law enforcement, and therefore has a duty not to resist, and no right to defend himself. The masks merely hide the individual agents’ identities, which neither the arrestee nor the bystanding busybodies need to know.

It’s the old “Washington Monument” routine

Close the Washington Monument, visited annually by thousands of citizens, and keep three remote crappers in Yellowstone open.
