‘Strange Bedfellows:’ The Protean Alliances of the American Left

Maduro’s capture revealed a seemingly curious realignment: The American Left condemned it together with the governments of countries like Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran. This may seem illogical, but it is consistent with the goals and practices of leftist movements. During the Cold War, the American Left was sympathetic to communist and socialist regimes and failed to categorically condemn the brutal crimes of communism.

In 2014, when Russia invaded and annexed Crimea during the second Obama mandate, there was no particular outrage on the part of American leftists. After “Russiagate,” however, they suddenly became vehemently anti-Russian. The American Left perceived the war between Russia and Ukraine as a proxy war to discredit Trump and both of his administrations. And now, they are again siding with Russia and other anti-Western regimes in condemning the arrest of an illegitimate socialist dictator.

The Left is fundamentally different from conservatives, classical liberals, and libertarians in rejecting the notion of objective truth and morality. Their goal is ruthlessly political — to gain power and transform the existing social order. This absence of objective truth and morality in leftist anti-Western ideologies is plainly visible in the Marxist and Leninist doctrines, critical theory, and most recently, the intersectional alliance of vastly incongruous groups with otherwise conflicting interests.

While the so-called “Right” can be easily divided based on principle, the Left always votes en bloc, united in its effort to bring down a common enemy. We should be ever vigilant in recognizing, exposing, and disarming the destructive modus operandi of external and internal forces, fanatically aligned to destroy America and the West.
