Kathy Hochul, Zohran Mamdani Announce Billions in New Spending on ‘Free’ Childcare Program

Kathy Hochul, Zohran Mamdani Announce Billions in New Spending on ‘Free’ Childcare Program

“If I’m telling you the money is there, that’s the story.”

New York Governor Kathy Hochul recently announced billions in new spending for a ‘free’ childcare program, while flanked by newly sworn-in New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

What could possibly go wrong?

They’re only doing this as the state of Minnesota is imploding under the weight of a massive fraud scandal involving daycare centers. Talk about having no sense of timing.

ABC News reported:

Hochul and Mamdani to unveil free child care plan in New York City

New York City parents may soon have access to free child care for their 2-year-olds, under a plan set to be unveiled Thursday by Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

The two Democrats are expected to detail the program at a news conference Thursday morning, along with a pledge from Hochul to pursue a wider, statewide free child care initiative.

“There’s one thing that every family in New York can agree on, the cost of childcare is simply too high,” Hochul said in a statement. “As New York’s first mom Governor, fighting for New York’s families has always been at the core of my agenda.”

For Mamdani, the announcement is the first step in fulfilling one of his trademark campaign promises, marking a major boon for the mayor just days after he took office with the promise of implementing a transformative agenda focused on making the city a more affordable place to live.

“This victory represents much more than a triumph of city and state government working in partnership — it is proof that when New Yorkers come together, we can transform the way government serves working families,” he said in a statement.

See their announcement below:

In Hochul’s defense, she doesn’t have much of a choice here. Her fate is tied to Mamdani in party and state, and he was going to push for this with or without her support.

The New York Post has more:

Hochul stressed the funding will come from “existing” state revenues, rather than new taxes. She later told PIX11 that tax revenue from Wall Street bonuses, which proved to be quite healthy, would be used to cover the tab.

The governor also flatly said that taxing the rich – as Mamdani and his Democratic Socialists of America allies have clamored for – was off the table.

“Because I don’t think it makes sense to tax anyone or the wealthy in particular for just the sake of raising taxes,” she said.

“If I’m telling you the money is there, that’s the story.”

Hochul made a show of emphasizing she was committing full funding for the next two years — but the pledge itself could ultimately lead to future new taxes beyond that time frame.

“What that potentially does is create a fiscal and programmatic cliff that risks the budget in the future and risks the program serving New Yorkers in the future,” warned Andrew Rein, president of the Citizens Budget Commission.

They had better know that this will be watched closely.

What happens? Next year, disgusting Mitt Romney who wants to tax the hell out of the top 2 percent wage SLAVES, can donate his entire fortune to pay for it. But, don’t worry Mitt. You can deliver pizza and exclude up to $25,000 of tip income thanks to Donald.

“Wall Street” and myriad financial companies are already moving to Miami and other, more financially and politically hospitable climes.

Under the rule of the Islamofascist/Muslim supremacist/neo-communist piece of excrement now running NYC, that trend will only accelerate.

These child care programs and other programs are designed to be defrauded.

We don’t have the money, Kathy.

You’ve already run out of other people’s money – stop spending.

These sorts of public policies that operate to effectively provide replacement for aspects/roles/responsibilities traditionally provided by/within the nuclear Family are destroying the impetus to get and remain married. Our society is gonna have to engage in some very uncomfortable discussions re how/why/whether we should continue to implement such policies. It might not be the intended outcome but the efforts seem pretty clear; when people can look to Uncle Sugar to get a benefit formerly provided by the Family they have less incentive to form and maintain Families. Consider the irresponsible actions these policies/programs subsidize; have a child and govt will give you subsidized/free housing, WIC, ‘free’ child care, ‘free’ public K-12 (some locations have free JUCO) SNAP. Then all various ‘charity’ programs often getting their own Federal Grant. The responsibility of parenting is outsourced to the State. Add to this the distorted Family Court system with procedures locked into 1950’s presumptions. None of that includes the incentives for fraud to game the system; disability, continuous ‘job training’ but never a job that would earn enough to move beyond welfare dependence. Sorry to ramble on but this article set me off.

Taxpayers should not be paying for childcare.

Anyone who wants such programs should make voluntary contributions to such efforts.

I have no kids. I already have to pay for dysfunctional schools taught by ignorant losers who through their union fund a party I despise. I now have to pay for childcare soon to be run by losers who through their (soon to be) union fund a party I despise (or I would if lived in NY),

I encourage the vile, stupid and evil Dhimmi-crat neo-communists/Islamofascists/Muslim supremacists in New York State to accelerate their spending profligacy, thus bankrupting the state at an even faster clip than had been achieved, previously.

The better to more quickly demonstrate their glaring, malicious and malignant incompetence, fiscal illiteracy and general unfitness to wield even a scintilla of political power, at any level of government.

What? Hochul thinks WS is stupid like her? Next she’ll call in the Somalis and their expertise in running “free” daycare. After that parents will start complaining about the poor quality of daycare, and so it goes on and on.

child indoctrination program

FTFY

The only “free” thing is the air we breathe. Of course, that could change, too.

Cool a new program design for Democrats to defraud to fund their elections to get power to created programs they can defraud. Very Ouroboros of them. We need to help them swallow hard and disappear.

Yeah, because New York state is in such great shape (not) that, rather than spending existing state revenues on such things as improving its crumbling infrastructure, Hochul has made the policy decision to instead provide “free” universal child care. Brilliant. Hochul is a craven panderer to the whims of the far left. Gooder and harder, NY!

Here’s an idea, maybe the MOTHERS of two year olds should care for their children!

The governor also flatly said that taxing the rich – as Mamdani and his Democratic Socialists of America allies have clamored for – was off the table.

For once she is right. The trust spoiled fund babies, woke corporate plutocrats, Wall Street fat cats, and any other wealthy leftists will never have to pay an extra dime. The rich always get richer under Communist rule – not to mention more powerful. The Communists’ grift always depends on keeping the rich happy.

Instead, it is the honest poor and the less powerful who will get soaked. “Eat The Rich” always means “make the rich wealthier and more powerful.”

great

how many more

leering care centers will they open until the population does what it takes to stop them!!?

The cost of many things such as food, housing, transportation, and childcare is tied to regulations, not the actual cost of the service.

The more regulations, the higher the costs.

Lower the regulations, lower the costs.

Exactly! and the more gov’t gets involved the more regulations and generally the more chronyism. Some of the best day care centers I’ve seen in FL are little mom and pop shops that families started together and run together. Giving people the opportunity to do innovative micro-schools and day care facilities will help bring down the cost versus adding in more heavy handed gov’t programs that over regulate and under serve, generally providing poor to mediocre services to only a handful of people. Almost every parent I know that had their child at a headstart hated it and would have gladly left if they could have afforded anything else. And that is considered a “successful” gov’t program.

Here’s something I have always pondered.

You have mothers who do not work that are receiving public assistance.

Let them come together and form a group where some mothers can be actual day care workers while the others go off and find other jobs.

We are paying for the mothers to stay at home through taxes anyway. Let’s put the money to actual work.

That’s kinda how the Somalis were operating the daycare grift. They put the Parents on a no work, no show ‘job’ as aides/janitors/food service. This way the Parents got their required employment hours to maintain eligibility for other govt ‘welfare’ programs but didn’t have to actually work a real job.

Yup, and then the mothers who actually do the daycare have to get accredited, and government permits for the school, and inspections, etc.
Unless they want to work for free. And you know they won’t.

Much like Head Start, if these even get off the ground; the “quality,” of the day care/child care will likely be abysmal (lots of learing but no learning). Leaving these organizations completely open to fraud, abuse and worst practices such as out right abusing and neglecting children etc. etc. So no one in NYC who voted for this loser will even want to use the gov’t child care centers. Again poor people who didn’t vote for Mamdopey will be stuck with these centers while they foot the bill for another useless government program. Also having no plan on how to fund them beyond 2 years tells me that if any of them ever even open it will be a miracle.

Good. Then no Federal appropriations for NY City or State to cover their shortfalls . . . in anything.

Subsidies to Child Abusers. Deliver a captive audience of innocent children to psychotic fraudsters and scam artists, what’s the worst that could happen? It’s the Democrat version of Paradise!

Exactly the same type of legislation that Tim Walz boasted of passing in his VP debate, which we now know les directly to at least $9 Billion in fraud in a single year.

Right on. Nothing makes something more affordable than plopping fat Jabba The Hutt goverment down smack dab in the middle of it!
