U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Joseph B. Edlow announced that President Donald Trump ordered him to begin “a full scale, rigorous reexamination” of all green cards from countries of concern.
Trump already said his administration would examine everyone who came to the U.S. from Afghanistan under former President Joe Biden.
These moves stem from the shootings of two National Guardsmen. The suspect is an Afghan national, Rahmanullah Lakanwal.
Lakanwal came to the U.S. under “Operation Allies Welcome” during the Biden administration, following the disastrous withdrawal.
“The protection of this country and of the American people remains paramount, and the American people will not bear the cost of the prior administration’s reckless resettlement policies,” added Edlow. “American safety is non negotiable.”
Edlow did not list the countries of concern.

The special watch list includes Algeria, Azerbaijan, the Central African Republic, Comoros, and Vietnam.
