Bill Maher Rips Democratic Socialism, Warns Dems They’re Going Too Far Left
“All the left-leaning think tanks have done autopsies on 2024, and they all came up with the same message. Move to the center”
Bill Maher ripped the Democratic Party’s current fling with Democratic Socialism during a monologue on his show Friday night, suggesting that the embrace of politicians like Zohran Mamdani will be a gift to Republicans.
Maher has been railing against the radical left element among Democrats for quite a few years now, but this monologue makes it sound like he is really finished with the ‘Occupy’ wing of the party for good.
It’s also safe to assume that Maher is a big fan of Abigail Spanberger, based on what he says here.
FOX News reports:
Bill Maher tears into socialism and begs Democrats to embrace moderate candidates
HBO host Bill Maher on Friday criticized democratic socialism and warned of its potential negative impact on the Democratic Party, urging both voters and party leaders to steer clear of the ideology.
The “Real Time” host took specific aim at two prominent democratic socialists during his “New Rule” segment, New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.
“Democrats must recognize that Zohran Mamdani is the future of the party. Unfortunately, it’s the Republican Party. Get it?” Maher joked. “And if you missed his victory speech in last week’s mayoral election in New York, don’t worry. You’ll see it in every attack ad for the next two years.”
While Maher admitted that Mamdani “seems like a nice guy,” he offered a warning about the Democratic Party’s increasing appetite for democratic socialist candidates. Maher urged that before the “whole left side of the country catches socialism fever,” to take some advice from another “big winner” from last week’s special elections.
“… Virginia Governor Elect Abigail Spanberger, who before the ‘24 election said things like, ’If the party didn’t shift to the center, we will get torn apart.’ And, ‘We need to never use the word socialist or socialism ever again,’” Maher recalled. “Well, she was right, but they didn’t listen. Typical, am I right, ladies?”…
“It turns out we don’t really have to flip a coin. We have the evidence. In 2024, 13 Democrats won in districts Trump also won, all moderates. This isn’t rocket science. All the left-leaning think tanks have done autopsies on 2024, and they all came up with the same message. Move to the center,” he asserted.
Maher actually goes after Bernie Sanders and AOC in this bit. It’s kind of amazing.

Unfortunately for Bill, it may be too late. The socialist wing of the Democratic Party is where all of the youth and energy are today.

“Bill Maher warns Dems they’re going too far left”
They’ve gone so far left they’re in uncharted territory. There’s a notation that says “Here be dragons.”
Maher is a lot like Fetterman: he seems reasonable and more palatable to repubs, but deep down they will both always be lefties.
Maher’s such a big weenie all his friends called him Oscar.
Too soon is what he means. Democrats got their greatest territorial gains by moving slowly while RINOs slowly gave ground.
Speaking as a moderate there are no democratic moderates any more. Not a one.
There is also no such thing as a shift to the center. It may be a verbal shift but it is never a policy shift. No one with any common sense would believe a sudden verbal shift. Of course it seems a lot of voters lack common sense as do all pundits and media types who trumpet shifts to the center.
Bingo. Maher’s advice boils down to, “Keep doing it, just don’t BRAG about it.”
Let me translate –
Maher: “C’mon Dems, you just have to appear to be more towards the center. In other words, LIE! Honesty is NOT a big vote -getter for us!”.
Do we need anyone to tell us that socialism doesn’t work? Anyone who thinks it does qualifies as so far gone, and ignorant of history, as to be unreachable. Besides I don’t trust Maher. He really wants the Democrats to remain stealthy socialists like him. Even the term, “democratic socialism” is a misnomer. By its very nature socialism must eventually become dictatorial and undemocratic.
Solzhenitsyn recommends we read the 1980 book by Russian mathematician Shafarevich: “The Socialist Phenomenon” for a profound analysis. Shafarevich contends that socialism predates Marx with roots stretching back to ancient times. The three common themes: abolition of private property; abolition of the family; abolition of religion. All in the service of suppression of individuality. Sound familiar? All captured in Orwell’s “1984.”
Pols like Bernie Sanders are particularly infuriating. He failed at everything except politics. Even the the commune he was in kicked him out.
“Anyone who thinks it does qualifies as so far gone, and ignorant of history, as to be unreachable.”
But unfortunately not unregisterable.
Madame Lazonga predicts that before the month is out, someone will denounce Maher as an Uncle Tom, or whatever the white Democrat equivalent of that is.
“too far left”
again,, that is an admission that the dems are socialists as “too far” is just the same dem policies but carried out with a different pr model
That’s “centrist” in the Dem party today, supporting Jay “kill their children” Jones.
If he thinks Spamberger is a moderate, he’s missing something.
