Two Syracuse Students Arrested After Allegedly Throwing Bag of Pork Into Jewish Frat House
“Tonight’s incident as reported to us is abhorrent, shocking to the conscience and violates our core value of being a place that is truly welcoming to all”
Two students at Syracuse University in upstate New York have been arrested and charged with a hate crime after allegedly throwing a bag of pork into a Jewish fraternity house at the school. To make matters worse, this happened while people were at the house to observe Rosh Hashanah.
Several years ago, this might have been seen as a cruel prank, but in our current environment, it’s much more serious.

NBC News reports:
Syracuse students accused of hate crime after pork was thrown into Jewish frat house
Two Syracuse University students have been charged with burglary as a hate crime after one of them was alleged to have thrown a bag of pork into a Jewish fraternity house as people gathered to observe Rosh Hashanah, police said Wednesday.
The two 18-year-olds were also charged with one count each of criminal nuisance in the incident at the Zeta Beta Tau house about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, police in Syracuse, New York, said.
Allen Groves, the university’s chief student experience officer, called it a “deeply troubling incident” in a message to the campus community Tuesday night.
“Tonight’s incident as reported to us is abhorrent, shocking to the conscience and violates our core value of being a place that is truly welcoming to all,” he said. “It will not be tolerated at Syracuse University.”
One of the accused students entered the frat house and threw the bag of pork inside while the second drove the vehicle that they then used to flee, Groves said. Police arrested both soon afterward, he said…
The bag of pork was thrown into the fraternity house as members were eating dinner on the first night of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which is observed over two days. It is the beginning of the High Holidays.
Syracuse.com has a statement from Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick:
Fitzpatrick said the attack is being charged as a hate crime because it happened on the Jewish High Holy Day of Rosh Hashanah, the food thrown was pork and ZBT is known as a Jewish fraternity.
“This incident is not a foolish college prank and will not be treated as such,” Fitzpatrick said.” “It will be treated for what it is, a crime directed against a group of Jewish students enjoying a celebratory dinner and seemingly secure in their residence.”
The students – Samuel Patten and Kyle Anderson, who are both 18 years old – were arraigned this morning in Syracuse City Court.
They are currently being held in the Justice Center Jail, according to county jail records. Their bail was set at $1500 by Judge Derrek Thomas, according to digital court records.
This is the full statement from Chief Student Experience Officer Allen Groves:
Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:
I write to inform you of a deeply troubling incident that happened in our community tonight. At approximately 6 p.m., brothers of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity were gathered in their chapter house to celebrate the first night of Rosh Hashanah when a student, who is not part of the fraternity, reportedly entered the fraternity house and threw meat, believed to be pork, on the floor while fraternity members were eating a dinner to celebrate this important religious holiday for the Jewish community. The student then fled in a car driven by a second student. Both were quickly apprehended by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and taken into custody by the Syracuse Police Department (SPD). I am grateful to DPS for their swift action and to SPD for their partnership in helping us keep our community safe.
A decision on specific criminal charges will be made by local authorities in the coming days, including whether to charge it as an antisemitic hate crime. In addition, the students involved have been referred to Community Standards pursuant to our Student Conduct Code, and pending the outcome of an investigation, will face appropriate disciplinary action through our established procedures.
Tonight’s incident as reported to us is abhorrent, shocking to the conscience and violates our core value of being a place that is truly welcoming to all. It will not be tolerated at Syracuse University.

“ ch habe nur die Befehle meines führer!”
Now, I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that while these two budding neurosurgeons were in high school that critical race theory was emphasized while the Holocaust was a paragraph or two that was skipped over.
Enjoy the felony record!
Considering their age, I wonder if the frontal lobes have connected just yet. Prob’ly not.
.
But I am sure that based on the alleged prank turned sour, their balls have descended.
While I abhor the term “hate crime,” their actions were against the law, crude, and crass.
I wonder if the two Mensa students would consider doing this to a fraternity chock full of Mohammad supporters, as if that would be a good idea.
Only Christians and Jews are targets for religious persecution.
Throw a case full of O’Doul’s back into their frat.
Connected to their asses.
Were they Muslims?
A crime is a crime, all crimes are hate crimes
I’m tired of that term
If they’re yeeting bacon around, probably not Muslims.
Just a wild guess here, but speculating from the names given in the reporting above (“Two Syracuse University students – Kyle Anderson and Samuel Patten” they are not.
There have already published names associated with these crimes?
Signs and wonders!
Not all crimes are hate crimes. This is. Bacon thrown into the middle of a high holiday meal. It was meant to debase and humiliate; it wasn’t a culinary suggestion or a big joke.
I think these two should be put into stocks in the public square.
Okay, let’s put this in perspective. They are 18 years old. Are they pro-Palestinian wokists or just really dumb freshmen?
As noted elsewhere, smart enough not to throw bacon at a Muslim house.
Will Syracuse U. administrators expel these vile punks, or, in accordance with the attitudes of Dhimmi-crat Jew-haters, give them medals and commendations?
Well I don’t keep Kosher so I would have welcomed their contribution provided it was ribs. Have you seen the price of ribs these days?
Thanks boys! Now go bring me a 1/4 cord of Hickory and we’ll be set.
Jews eating tref endangers the entire Jewish people worldwide.
Their parents must be so proud. /sarc
Actually, if they are Leftists/Democrats they well may be.
Subotai Bahadur
now… do that outside a muslim house….
These collegians and their like-minded ilk are smart enough not to throw pork at the Muslim house…
That, in itself, would be a satisfying punishment—if the police agreed to look the other way for, say, 6 or 8 hours.
We can, of course, understand how academics, the media, and Democrats (BIRM) would have reacted if the two “pranksters” had done this to a mosque.
A crime is a crime, and these two should pay the price. Yes, a felony or misdemeanor record is a heavy price to pay, but we need to set a public example, and these two will do.
Man, back in 1983 the ZBT brothers at the University of South Carolina would have opened a can of whoop ass on Keith Murray, Skinsk Bolin, Mignon Clyburn (Jim Clyburn’s daughter) and Brett Bursey’s band of PLO toadies and instigators had they done that.
Some of these names don’t Google, and some Google too broadly, Are you referring to an actual historical incident, or just speculating?
I have it on good authority from various idiots at X that the Zeebs are committing genocide.
If they were as brave as they think they are, they would throw it in a Muslim house, but they wouldn’t dare, would they??
if that had been done to a muslim place………
Make them watch October 7 footage.
See, this is the problem. If they’re watched it, they’d probably see it either as patriotic or as a comedy. Either way, it wouldn’t be a punishment for them.
Would they have been charged with a “crime” if the target had been a protestant home? If so, why isn’t that charge sufficient? Crime is crime, and victims are victims.
I really don’t think it’s in the government’s purview to implicitly pass judgment on motives and increase/decrease the penalty accordingly.
I have never been in agreement with the whole “hate crime” concept. It’s a slippery slope.
This actually seems to fit bill for ‘hate crime’. It was a premeditated, targeted attack on ZBT a Jewish Frat while they sat to eat in fellowship observing a Jewish religious period. This wasn’t some bs about a knot looking like a noose. It wasn’t something being twisted into a narrative to shoehorn it into a hate crime.
If you’d prefer domestic terrorism to ‘hate crime’ for crimes that may an extra motive I’m absolutely in favor of that. Both have the same drawback of potential for being applied selectively based on policy preferences of the regime in power. IMO, let a jury decide whether to accept or reject the ‘hate crime’ label.
Nordic Prince- yes they would have been charged with a crime if done at a protestant home. Probably not as a hate crime. I suspect our political leadership established enhanced criminal laws to protect the various minorities that compose our great nation, from violence or intimidation by those who resent or fear people who might seem different. But i think if one needed an emergency blood transfusion, and that Jew, Muslim, homosexual etc had the blood you needed, those differences would disappear rather quickly.
It looks like theater on all sides.
Imus, on whatever Jewish holidays you’re not allowed to operate appliances, would call live on the air each of his Jewish taking-the-day-off managers and hosts, and when they answered the phone, told them they’re not supposed to be answering the phone.
Playing on one side of the theater.
Of course, has nothing to do with the topic. If only you were subjected to “theater,” then maybe you would change your bigoted tune.
Play-seriousness is the common topic, mocked in Imus’s case, and taken “seriously” by the media in this case.
Clown talk.
As if your Jew-hatred would allow you to take this seriously. This is probably something you’d do.
What does the news claim to know? It claims to know what is important.
It’s an organizer of anxieties.
Were they orthodox or was Imus being an anus?
“Oh, how can you be so upset by a silly prank?”
The goal is to normalize violence against a target group, to make more extreme actions palatable to the attacker. Another variation on Polar bear hunting, where whites and especially orthodox Jews are sucker punched walking down the street.
Normalizing violence.
Next time it’ll be outside a synagogue. Or at a store, or at a restaurant. Next time it’ll be a molotov cocktail. Or a suppressed pistol to take out a CEO – oh wait, they did that and the Left cheered for more.
There is the dysfunctional but tribe-strengthening move of seeing antisemitism everywhere, producing alienation that discourages assimilation. The public problem for Jews is that it doesn’t work externally, whatever its internal benefits.
The problem for non-Jews is how to express this politely.
While that might be true in other cases and there is, as you often argue, an element of paranoia/over sensitivity (often justified it must be said) by some Jews who seem to see antisemitism ‘everywhere’ … it seems clear to me this isn’t one of those. Instead this particular situation has all the elements of a deliberate, premeditated assault intended to create terror based upon the religious beliefs of the victims.
Commochief, this is not paranoia or over sensitivity. If you haven’t experienced it, you can never know that feeling. Some might think of it as a childish prank. To the victim its not. To this day I still remember 1960 in a suburban Los Angeles high school attending some school function in the auditorium, one student stands up with a seig heil nazi salute followed by the entire student body, except for the maybe five Jewish kids sitting in the middle of this mob. No teacher, administrator or other adult did anything or said any.thing. The teachers and school administrators carried on as if nothing happened. Experience it and then try and blow it off!
Provably there is only a single Deity, our King, the Creator of Existence, God Almighty as prophesied, by covenant and named, “King of America.” Where is “E Pluribus Unum” in this cult’s ritual, as all true Americans are one People with the one God, one Law, one Flag, one Language and one Anthem? Curiously enough their cult is taught they are “Gog” with specificity and have Canaanite DNA, while Black and White Americans have the known Hebrew DNA of the foretold Regathered Israel’s Cast-off Righteous Remnant “sheltering in the Promised Land led by the Light of the Root of Jesse,” the Hebrew Messiah, “attacked by Gog.” Ezek. 38;11
There is no private interpretation of prophecy and they who deny prophecy deny God.
As a Jewish fellow myself I have a much different outlook on this act. We don’t want to be like the leftists, criminalizing unpopular speech and acts of tomfoolery.
These two mopes should surely be publicly shamed and if students, suffer administrative penalties from the university for being knuckleheads, but to charge them criminally for a “hate crime”, nope. I don’t want the government being able to limit speech and defining hate. It’s a slippery slope.
And on a lighter note, I have friends who are Zeta Beta Taus and they refer to themselves as Zillion Billions and Trillions. Yes, yes, insensitive Jewish pride.
And finally, a drum roll please! What is the ultimate Jewish dilemma?
Free pork tossed through the front door of the ZBT house.
Hey, if we can’t laugh at ourselves who can we laugh at??
Rufus, I assume you are an assimilated Jew living comfortably in the USA. Maybe never experienced antisemitism. Do you eat pork? If it had been you in that frat house, maybe the pork would be accepted as a gift? But this event was not harmless words but a physical, threatening action. If this action took place at a Black or Muslim house, the perp would have been a bloody pulp if not dead while his buddy raced down the street. This is carried out on Jew , except maybe Israel because we tend not to fight back in our desire to assimilate and be accepted where we live. Are you suicidal like the Jews who march with the “Free Palestine “ mob. They might let you live as a second class person if you convert to Islam. Actually October 7, might not have been the devastating event if the Israeli government allowed it’s citizens to be armed. They were not armed and they died. It highlights the importance of our 2A. Slight change of subject, when a mob of Muslims in Dearborn, MI are shouting death to America, all the more reason to be armed. When they finish with the Jews, which of you will be next, and next?
