Mamdani Versus the Statue of Liberty

Both conservatives and classical liberals appear shocked by the high percentages of support that the latest polls predict for Zohran Mamdani, despite his openly Marxist, socialist, and Islamist views.

In a podcast titled “NYC’s Whiny Brats Pick a Mayor,” Ben Shapiro provides a deeper insight into some of the reasons for this seemingly surprising trend. Shapiro notes that most of Mamdani’s supporters are rather young, spoilt, and indoctrinated to hate American and Western values. To them, a politician like Mamdani, who grew up with all the privileges of “left caviar” elites, has never held a serious job, and proudly occupies a rent-controlled apartment, may be someone to emulate.

Shapiro further explains that New York City has become the seat of numerous nonprofit and government jobs, which are tipping the balance in favor of radical policies. Despite the dismal polls and shifting realities, however, there may still be reason for cautious hope.

Kevin O’Leary recently remarked on Fox Business that Mamdani would get “drop-kicked” by the Statue of Liberty, since his agenda is fully antithetical to the American Dream. O’Leary elaborated:

We are talking quasi-socialism, communism here. This is not in the vibe, heart, and essence of the DNA of New York…. The American Dream, capitalism, making it happen for the family, that is the essence of New York. I think that this guy is going to get “drop-kicked” by the Statue of Liberty.

Marxist, socialist, and communist ideologues follow precepts like the ones in Saul Alinsky’s playbook Rules for Radicals. Such rules aim at training community organizers to assume disproportionate influence, manipulate and displace moderate voices, and usurp control, as revealed by the current split in the Democrat Party between radicals who hate America and old-school moderates, who continue to cede ground.

While history and generational wisdom may suggest that sooner or later people will wake up and common sense will prevail, we cannot passively hope for the triumph of good over evil. People’s political choice is often determined by completely irrational factors, emotion, ignorance, and wishful thinking.

Waiting for a natural course-correction and a pendulum swing after radicals have already taken power is tantamount to playing Russian roulette with America’s future. A case in point is provided by all the hard work and long-term effort needed to undo the damage inflicted by DEI and other woke absurdities on our education, culture, and businesses.

We should try instead to first win the short-term battles of upcoming elections – in New York City and elsewhere – by preventing power grab by radicals. We need to use any lawful means available – from continually exposing the extreme dangers posed by today’s socialist and Islamist alliance to strategizing and uniting behind a non-radical opposing candidate who is most likely to succeed. Striving for success in the short-term battles should be combined with a continued aspiration to win the war for preserving the West, by neutralizing and dismantling the nefarious dominance of anti-American ideology in our culture and education.

Martin van Buren reportedly stated: “It’s easier to do a job right than to explain why you didn’t.” Using lawful means, such as political strategy, proper education, and public persuasion to prevent a radical like Mamdani from seizing control of the largest American city, will make it not only easier to restore the American Dream but render it possible at all, before it becomes much too late. The time for “drop-kicking” pernicious ideologies is now.
