This rash of hoaxes has been going on for at least two weeks now.

Swatting hoaxes hit multiple Georgia universities, following national trend
Multiple universities in Georgia sent alerts to students about a reported shooter on campus Friday night. Both of these events now appear to be the latest in a string of swatting hoaxes across the nation.
At 8:45 p.m., the University of Georgia Police Department received a call of a shooter in the area of the UGA Library at the Athens campus. Officers quickly responded and searched the area.
By 9:37 p.m., officers said a preliminary investigation suggests the event was a hoax.
At 9:54 p.m., the University of West Georgia in Carrollton sent an alert to students warning of a man with a gun in the area of Ingram Library.
At 10:30 p.m., emergency personnel gave the all clear and stated that no evidence of any threat was found on campus.
These alerts come after a “swatting hoax” occurred at the University of South Carolina on Sunday after police received two calls with mimicked gunfire in the background. Several other similar incidents have occurred nationwide this week.
