The Senate passed President Donald Trump’s “big beautiful bill” after Vice President JD Vance cast the tie-breaking vote.
Republican Sens. Susan Collins (ME), Rand Paul (KY), and Thom Tillis (NC) voted no with all the Democrats.
However, the bill has to go through the House again.
The House fiscal hawks are still not happy with the bill since it doesn’t contain many spending cuts. Moderates have concerns about Medicaid cuts.
But the House is determined:
House Ways and Means Chair Jason Smith, the chief tax writer in the House, said that he was “optimistic” about the bill on his way to the Senate floor Tuesday morning. “We’re moving to the point that we’re getting more balance, and what I’ve said all along is let’s have balance in the bill,” the Missouri Republican said. “We’re going to get this done, we’re going to get this to the president by July 4.”
