Senate Passes Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ 51-50
The bill returns to the House so it’s not over yet.

The Senate passed President Donald Trump’s “big beautiful bill” after Vice President JD Vance cast the tie-breaking vote.
Republican Sens. Susan Collins (ME), Rand Paul (KY), and Thom Tillis (NC) voted no with all the Democrats.
However, the bill has to go through the House again.
The House fiscal hawks are still not happy with the bill since it doesn’t contain many spending cuts. Moderates have concerns about Medicaid cuts.
But the House is determined:
House Ways and Means Chair Jason Smith, the chief tax writer in the House, said that he was “optimistic” about the bill on his way to the Senate floor Tuesday morning.
“We’re moving to the point that we’re getting more balance, and what I’ve said all along is let’s have balance in the bill,” the Missouri Republican said. “We’re going to get this done, we’re going to get this to the president by July 4.”
🚨 BREAKING: Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill has officially PASSED the U.S. Senate, with JD Vance breaking the tie
It now heads back to the House for a vote on the changes made.
It COULD still hit Trump’s desk by July 4th. pic.twitter.com/qszGm5sAt3

Removing all the wind and solar subsidies is excellent. However, there remains far too much crony crap in the bill. Both sides need to be finacially responsible.

It’s definitely a catchy tune. All it needs is a cool title. How about “Big, Beautiful Porky”?
See the old Monty Python Spam sketch. The words are to the tune of Spam Spam Spamety-spam.
Pigs at the trough.
Dear Kids and Grand-kids. This is our legacy to you. 4 trillion dollars of more national debt. Sorry about that, but we wanted to spend money that we didn’t have. We hope you guys can figure out how to pay for everything. Good luck!!
Shut up, you idiot.
I did an OCR search. Th words gender, transgnder, and gender affirming care do not appear ANYWHERE in the senate version of the bill. Totally unaccpetable.
What about “equity”, “guidelines”, or “goals”?
Be Gentle or your new pace maker will malfunction!
I had a couple of “episodes” yesterday that told me “slow down”, as I was energetic enough to be moving around the house at a pretty good pace. I slowed down and all is well.
Be careful of the heat!
Speaking of heat, if the pacemaker can’t adjust to conditions as much as before, I’d be very conscious of hydration. I got dehydrated a week ago, apparently it’s because the blood gets thicker and lower volume as sweat is produced. I’ve always joked that hydration is easy, just drink water, but man it took a whole day or more (once I figured out what was going on) and a couple sports drinks for things to come back to normal. Part of it was relearning to drink more water now that we’re in the hot season, which I had forgotten over the winter.
To Artichoke: I am hydrating like mad, and use a little trick a gym trainer taught me: take about 16oz of water, add about four granules of Himalayan pink salt and shake it up to dissolve the granules. A good cheap electrolyte balancer without all of the plastic in it like Gator/PowerAde.
“Republican Sens. Susan Collins (ME), Rand Paul (KY), and Thom Tillis (NC) voted no with all the Democrats.”
Of course they did.
But calling them Republicans is like calling a turd a Milky Way Bar.
I agree with you on collins and tillis, terrible republicans
Rand Paul is a libertarian and should be respected. As noted above, Rand has shown considerable more fiscal responsibilty than most every other senator.
I’ve often wondered how he’d be as a president.
randy
Apparently, nobody else wants to know. The country rejected his father as a presidential candidate three times, and his principles were clearer and more consistent than his son’s.
As far as Collins goes: look at the state she represents. You won’t ever get much better.
Grizz – good point on Maine. While collins is goes awol quite frequently, its better than the alternative. The alternative being a far left radical. A solid republican would be near unelectible in Maine.
On the other hand, there no excuse for Tillis in NC
NC has been iffy. They’re on their second consecutive Dem governor. But Tillis is being thrown out and puts a nice face on it by finding an excuse for why he’s not running for a third Senate term.
Probably the Noo Yawk transplants keep him in office.
He’s a grandstanding idiot like the rest of them. He made a big deal about ‘holding Fauci accountable’.
Now its been 6 months and he’s still ‘preparing’ to issue a subpoena to Fauci.
Remember too that Trump awarded Fauci with a Presidential Commendation for his work on Covid.
I ‘d have issued him a Presidential Condemnation.

Let’s be honest.
This is the best that Republicans could get through a divided nation.
We were on the precipice of huge taxes being levied.
I don’t see too many comparisons regarding the HUGE spending by the past Congresses for the past four years.
But pushing through a bill that makes JRs d*ck wilt like a candle in Georgia in July is now a problem.
Regarding Rand Paul, libertarian or not, he’s a big money happy guy, too. He only gets incensed when it’s his Ox that is gored.
We have gone down a long descent when a Republican is called a “turd” because they voted against adding 4 trillion dollars to our national debt.
I got tied of calling a piece of shit, so I figured I would insult better people than you.
It would be better if people refused to engage our known trolls. I know longer do. Just the new ones that pop up now and again.
The alternative is to cost thousands of dollars in additional taxes to every household in America, I think you have to compromise a little bit. I will say this, if they raise my taxes I will vote against every single one of those sons of bitches that I can.
With 4 trillion dollars of new national debt, I guarantee you that they will have to raise your taxes.
You willing to put $10,000 in escrow for a bet on that, or are you just a troll (as if I don’t know).
If it makes you unhappy, then I’m somewhat less concerned about the bill.
We need a Republican Senate. The House will probably hit the ceiling over this.
We have a Republican Senate. Just not one with 60 votes, which is why it had to be passed thru Reconciliation, and so the Senate Parliamentarian (appointed by Dem Harry Reid of the black eye) stripped out all the budget cutting stuff, even the Medicaid cuts, as being non budget related.
What should have happened was for the Senate Reps to find a backbone and replace the parliamentarian, which they could have done. And appointed someone that would approve the good stuff that was in the House draft.
But Republicans and backbone rarely occur in the same instance. That’s only for Dems, who grew up on the philosophy of “By Any Means Necessary” and forget all the idealism and abstractions and fairness. Republicans will lose big and win only incrementally until they learn to fight to win, not for the tie.
And we’ll probably have fewer votes in the Senate after 2026 because (1) incumbent president’s party usually loses seats, and (2) we have to defend most of the seats up this cycle, something like 22 out of 33.
And we’ll probably lose the House in 2026 for reason (1) above, and next year it will be hard to pass anything right before the election. So this is the chance. This is it, for Trump’s second term.
As in the ending of “Drinking Cider Through a Straw”
“That’s all there is, there is no more.”
Here is a great example of the Stupid Party reasoning of “never be the first to exercise your power in novel ways,” ensuring that all the victories go to the Democrats who have no problem doing that (especially since they never get punished for it).
Tax cuts first.
Tax cuts are still there, like any Republican bill. What was lost to the Senate parliamentarian was the spending cuts on woke-aligned agendas. Whatever fruits of DOGE were in the House version were stripped out completely by the Dem-appointed parliamentarian.
A lot of this lends credence to Elon Musk’s call for a new party.
That nonsense again. It was tried and another billionaire (Perot) allowed his ego to destroy it.
Worse than that, it put Clinton in the White House.
Perot knew exactly what he was doing. He didn’t get to be a billionaire by being stupid. By one trick or another billionaires will cause Dems to be elected.
Musk only went with Trump, probably, because Kamala-Walz ticket seriously endangered the stability of the United States. Next time he can expect a better Dem ticket (and can spend some money to produce), one he’d be happy to split the conservative vote to elect.
He destroyed the new party after Clinton get elected when it had a real chance to become something. He looked upon it as his and only his and alienated everyone who might have joined. Selfish bastard.
Ross Perot was as nuts as can be. I see Musk as FAR more stable, far more DO than Perot; far less talk than Perot,
Why, so his massive following of Indian tech-workers that can’t vote split a ticket and get a Democrat elected?
I hate to say this, but let’s go back to 2020-2021. President Trump got a large covid bill passed. 1.5-2 trillion if I remember. Then Biden and company got another 3.5-4 trillion in additional spending rammed through. That’s 6 trillion that was spent by the government and no one really knows where the money went. DOGE teased some of it out, the rest went to some dark hole. So now these three Senators are aghast. Rand Paul I’ll give a pass too because he’s been consistent about deficits. The other two, Tillis and Collins can go to hell. Really they weee worried about illegals being stripped of Medicaid? They were upset that the able bodied weee being tasked with finding jobs and off SNAP and Medicaid? At least Tillis is out. Collins needs to find another way to grift a living.
I guess Tillis was out anyway, his approval in NC was something like 25%, and Collins is ensuring her reelections in leftist Maine with this sort of thing.
Rand Paul will never be satisfied. Can’t expect much more than what was accomplished when there is such a small margin in both chambers. You bank what you can, then go to work on the rest.
There’s enough very important non budgetary items in the bill to warrant support. However, this whole ‘be a team player’ demand is wearing thin ….I very much suspect that when bills to cut current spending are presented or such amendments are demanded by budget hawks in return for their support in the future that the whole ‘be a team player’ argument will suddenly disappear when the time comes to support the ‘cut current spending team’. Instead it will be another rerun of ‘we’ll get to it next time’. Always kicking the can but we are running out of road.
Team play is necessary when the margin is so slim and it’s so easy to upset the apple cart.
Agreed but it must be a reciprocal obligation.
I have sincere doubts that when a tough vote comes up on legislation to make significant spending cuts to current spending that all the folks now demanding ‘team loyalty’ will be so eager to join the ‘cut current spending team’.
In fact I’m almost 99% sure they won’t b/c that’s how we keep spending $ we don’t have …the painful decisions and potentially unpopular cuts are always postponed …never the ‘right moment’, always after the next election ….always manana, never today. Sooner or later the debt music will stop and it would much better if we controlled when and how v sky high interest rates being demanded to finance our debt. Interest payments are 20% greater than the DoD budget and will soon be the largest single lime item to give some perspective on how much a problem this is.
Never has a country been more successfully Divided And Conquered than the USA.
spending other peoples money
IS SO MUCH FUN!!
No HPA and no SHORT act. Shameful.
Gun owners continue to get shafted at the federal level.
Agree. It’s also shameful that the GOP wing of the Uniparty is acting like their hands were tied by the parliamentarian on the HPA and kicking illegal aliens off Medicaid. I expected this from Thune, but it’s still irritating to see.
There is an expression used to describe bravery or honor; it refers to spherical items found on males.
I am surprised so many Republican legislators have children considering what they lack.
I’m reading that they are kicked off Medicaid.
