This is an update to a prior post. Read the backstory here.

From Cornell:

Statement on America First Policy Institute complaint

Cornell strictly prohibits unlawful bias or discrimination and has developed policies and practices that comply with applicable laws, including the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and federal regulations that applied to federal contractors. The university trains faculty and staff on recruitment practices that comply with our non-discrimination policy. Cornell maintains an office that investigates and addresses any claims of bias or discrimination.

The university strongly disputes the allegations in the America First Policy Institute complaint that references a number of outdated websites or programs that have not been in use for many years. Over the past year, the university has further enhanced its compliance with civil rights laws by engaging outside law firms to audit policy and practices to reflect changes in law or regulations, taking swift corrective action where necessary.

In thousands of hiring decisions in hundreds of departments and units, misunderstandings of policies can occur. If discrimination or bias is observed at any stage in any hiring process, it should be reported and will be corrected. The university does not tolerate unlawful discrimination in hiring or any other aspect of any university program or practice, and the university has taken and will continue to take prompt, effective, and appropriate action to respond to any and all allegations of any violation of law or the university’s equal opportunity and antidiscrimination policy.

The university administers its financial aid program and scholarship programs in compliance with applicable laws. Cornell meets the demonstrated financial need of all of its eligible undergraduate students without regard to students’ race, sex, or other protected traits. Cornell meets 100 percent of demonstrated financial need for all eligible undergraduates with annual aid offers that include Cornell grants and endowed scholarships, Pell grants and New York State grants (when eligible), work-study, and zero- or low-interest student loans, depending on total family income.

Cornell is deeply disturbed by personal attacks leveled against our faculty members. Cornell faculty members have devoted their lives to teaching, writing, and research in their fields, and they are all dedicated to providing Cornell students with a world-class education and society with advances in science, engineering, medicine, law, technology, social science, the humanities, and other areas of scholarship. Cornell faculty members are among the most learned, accomplished, and well-qualified in their respective academic disciplines.

That’s a sternly-worded letter. I suppose they also work hard to protect “Our Democracy.”

Well, then, let’s see the receipts. Either America First has the goods on Cornell, or else it must apologize. My money’s on the former, but you never know.
