Trump Pulls Ed Martin Nomination for U.S. Attorney for D.C.
Sen. Tom Tillis (R-NC) said he opposed Martin’s nomination, whining about him defending a few Capitol Hill rioters.

President Donald Trump told the media he has withdrawn his nomination for Ed Martin as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.
Trump noted how Martin did not receive the support he deserved:
But he’s a terrific person. And he wasn’t getting the support from people that I thought, and he’s done a very good job. Crime is down 25% in DC during his period of time.
I’m very disappointed in that, but I have so many different things that I’m doing now with the trade. I’m only one person. I can only make, boom. I can only lift that little phone so many times in a day. But we have somebody else that will be great.
Sen. Tom Tillis (R-NC) said he opposed Martin’s nomination, whining about him defending a few Capitol Hill rioters. He claimed the people “disgraced the United States by absolutely destroying the Capitol.”
Yeah, but they did not do that. The only person killed was Ashli Babbitt.
Trump hopes he can bring Martin into his administration in some capacity:
It was disappointing. I’ll be honest, I have to be straight. I was disappointed. A lot of people were disappointed, but that’s the way it works sometimes. That’s the way it works.
And he wasn’t rejected, but we felt it would be hard and we have somebody else that will be announcing over the next two days who’s going to be great.
Trump provides an update on his nominee for U.S. Attorney:

The markets are responding positively to ending the trade war with the UK.
All that has to happen for Trump to get his power back is ending the trade war.
USAID money here.
Danny,
Naw,.the market is responding to:
1. Better access to UK markets for US exports
2. Dramatically lower UK tariffs on US imports
3. Federal Revenue source from 10% tariff rate to help finance our $36 trillion+ federal debt
Then there’s the proof of concept for the entirety of the Trump Tariff regime; use tariffs (really threat of as most are temp waived pending negotiations) to put pressure on our trading counterparts to lower their long-standing protectionist barriers to US exports. This means more domestic manufacturing/industrial jobs and a revitalized middle-class. Higher paying jobs with better benefits for US workers means more take home pay and disposable income for higher saving, investment or consumption.
‘Ending the trade war with the UK’ is a funny way of saying, ‘the UK agrees to cut tariffs, which was the plan all along’.
Of course Never-Trump trolls like you will never admit that every one of us said that this was exactly the goal from the start.
And oh by the way, the markets were already UP since the start of the ‘trade war’.
And you wonder why all of us laugh at how dumb people like you act.
American beef access to the UK market is huge! Great win for American farmers.
What does this have to do with Ed Martin? At least you kept your mouth out of the toliet.
Primary Tillis
Oh he will be now, hard
Yep. Too bad I sold my house in NC last year; I would have stepped up, I might have gotten 20 votes (not 20%, 20 votes).
As a Party, the Republicans were, are and likely will continue to be, spineless weasels.
Yup. Voters like the OP in this thread are a big reason why.
Can’t have success
You can’t tell he Trump doesn’t have crap on Tillis he could have used
Cornyn came out in support, so that left the other 3 idiots and Vance could have won the day
Someone else was a traitor
I think the special issue with Tillis was that the nomination had to come out of the judiciary committee.
Thune should have yanked Tillis from the Judiciary committee the minute he realized that Tillis was going to f*** America over.
Thune is another spineless Republican
He’s truly Mitch McConnell’s butt-boy.
RINO scum.
As someone else noted, Vance doesn’t get to break a tie in committee.
What a lowlife, lying POS this worm, Tillis, is. This is beyond a joke. The day after, USA Today ran an article showing all of the “damage” to the Capitol and it was hilarious. They showed a lectern on its side … oooooh. Tehy showed a hallway that looked fine, with a caption talking about “dust”. They showed some objects piled in a hall – only to have to describe them as tools used by the cops (and then left in the hall by the cops). Apart from the couple of broken windows, there was NOTHING done to the Capitol. NOTHING.
But, then, this is just like Jacob Chantz(?) – the Qanon shaman – who was in the Senate well, but which we all saw, when the tapes were released and run by Tucker Carlson, had been led around the whole building by Capitol police and actually guided to the Senate well by the cops, who let him in, watched him play around a bit and then walked out with him.
Tillis is a worm of the lowest order. He is a stain on humanity. A liar of Democrat proportions. He should be ejected from the Senate (and deported from America).
In all seriousness, Thune needs to yank all Senate responsibilities from Tillis and make him sit in the corner wearing the dunce cap – because that’s the best Tillis could ever hope to be.
5 1/2 yr resident of NC here. Yeah, Tillis is a real POS, and will be primaries, but will probably win, as the power brokers/money are behind him. The Republican party is a dumpster fire in NC.
True. You can’t even get a Republican governor. You got a Dem who narrowly cheated his way in, and he’s doing one leftist trick after another from what I hear.
The left maximizes its opportunities. And the right? Still too many weasels like Tillis.
Trump 2.0 is turning into Trump 1.o. A trade deal with the UK? What do they make? Who cares? Trump should have fought for this man. Why didn’t he? BTW, where’s the investigation into J6, voter fraud and all the assorted evil doers who were victorious against 1.0?
Not every war needs to be fought. Not every battle needs to be engaged. Wait and see what comes out but Tillis has made himself a truly marked man, and that’s a good battle to have been engaged in. The people truly se me him for what he is now.
“What do they make?”
I’ve wondered the same thing. Their labor force struck themselves out of their jobs in autos, electronics, steel, industrial machinery.
Their managers were little better. I read about some of the outright stupidity, or vanity, that cost them their aircraft industry.
Seriously. Except for some blends of tea, some edible chocolate, and some very good television programming I can’t really bring anything to mind that they make anymore.
And if Boasberg selected Smith? Then what would you say?
“Sen. Thom Tillis is withholding support for President Donald Trump’s nominee for U.S. Attorney for D.C., a move that could result in MAGA villain Judge Jeb Boasberg choosing who would fill the role — potentially even former Special Counsel Jack Smith”

I would be saying president trump, fire that traitor. Until that stupid communist judge to try again
If he fought and lost, our friend District Judge Boasberg would appoint the acting US Attorney for DC. That had to be avoided. Trump did the only thing he could have done. Live to fight another day, and don’t let Boasberg up off the carpet.
That’s fine. If they don’t make much to import into the US but they buy a lot of US products, so much the better.
“What do they make? Who cares?”
@Titan28, I’ll take “Muslims” for $1,000
The only person killed was Ashli Babbitt.
Nope!
Four died at the Capitol on 1/6 and all were murdered by the cops, Ashli, of course, Rosanne Boyland was beaten to death by the police, Kevin Greeson and Benjamin Phillips suffered heart attacks after police threw flash bangs into the crowd before the Capitol was breached
Ironic use of the word destroy, how many man hours did Thom spend helping the clean up and rebuild from a natural disaster that actually destroyed significant parts of the state he represents?
Looked on his website and nothing.
Does the 120 day clock restart if Mr. Trump names a new nominee and installs that person as interim DA?
And then, if that person doesn’t get confirmed, can he put Martin back for another 120 days?
28 USC § 546(a) Except as provided in subsection (b), the Attorney General may appoint a United States attorney for the district in which the office of United States attorney is vacant.
(b) The Attorney General shall not appoint as United States attorney a person to whose appointment by the President to that office the Senate refused to give advice and consent.
(c) A person appointed as United States attorney under this section may serve until the earlier of—
(1) the qualification of a United States attorney for such district appointed by the President under section 541 of this title; or
(2) the expiration of 120 days after appointment by the Attorney General under this section.
(d) If an appointment expires under subsection (c)(2), the district court for such district may appoint a United States attorney to serve until the vacancy is filled. The order of appointment by the court shall be filed with the clerk of the court.
You know America is in the crapper when Rome can elect a Pope faster than Congress can approve a US Attorney.
