White House Confirms Thousands of USAID Firings Will Happen by September

“President Trump and Secretary Rubio are effectively stewarding taxpayer dollars while ensuring that foreign aid programs align with America’s national interests.”

The White House confirmed to Fox News Digital that the administration will fire thousands at the USAID by September.

From the report:

Thousands of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) employees will be terminated by September as the Trump administration restructures the agency to fall in line with the president’s “America First” policy, Fox News Digital learned.

“President Trump and Secretary Rubio are effectively stewarding taxpayer dollars while ensuring that foreign aid programs align with America’s national interests,” White House spokesperson Anna Kelly told Fox Digital Monday. “That includes eliminating staff positions that do not advance the President’s foreign policy goals to put America First.”

Congress did not establish the USAID. President John F. Kennedy formed the agency by executive order in 1961.

That is the difference between the USAID and other departments. For example, President Donald Trump cannot dissolve the Department of Education because its formation went through Congress.

Last month, the State Department confirmed it ended USAID as an independent organization after DOGE discovered so much waste.

According to an internal memo obtained by Fox News, the State Department will take over the USAID’s remaining operations and programs:

Now, the State Department is poised to officially take on USAID programs as part of a merger that aims to streamline operations to deliver foreign assistance, the memo said. It also will result in cuts for thousands of USAID employees.

“By bringing USAID’s core life-saving and strategic aid programs under the umbrella of the State Department, this Administration will significantly enhance the efficiency, accountability, uniformity, and strategic impact of foreign assistance programs — and ensure that our nation and President to speaks with one voice in foreign affairs,” Jeremy Lewin, who is performing the duties of USAID Deputy Administrator for Policy and Programming & Chief Operating Officer, said in a Friday statement to Fox News Digital.

The administration will cut a total of 4,650 personnel from USAID.

Between now and July, the State Department “will assess staffing requirements to proceed with an independent hiring process.”

The department will allow eligible USAID employees to “apply for those positions as remaining USAID personnel move to shut down or transfer USAID operations to the State Department.”

The media claimed the administration fired three USAID workers in Myanmar as they worked after the earthquake.

A State Department official denied the claims to the Washington reporter, reminding everyone that the department gave employees a July or September termination date.

I am sure that USAID is at least as effective in dispensing aid money after foreign disasters as FEMA has been in western North Carolina, Maui, Florida and Palestine, Ohio.

sooner than later is better

the left does nothing but plot to destroy and tear down families >>america

Termination date in July or September… So, every employee gets 3 or 6 months of severance benefit. I wish I got such a sweet deal when I got laid off.

Lawsuit blackmail is now a standard cost of business in America.

Typically any private industry severance package at least in the software industry has two parts to it, First is the part mandated by law. The second part is a requirement for you to promise not to sue them. This must be signed before you receive the severance.

Yes, you are right. It also contains non-compete provisions, as well. And, if they don’t sign, they forfeit their severance.

ztakddot: Can’t sue the gov’t. It has Sovereign immunity… one has a contract ? take it up in Court of Federal Claims…

I signed when I had too. I’m not stupid enough to burn bridges (unless I’m in a position to not get caught) and noncompete clauses don’t really hold up in court unless your a principal at new or old job. They throw all that in to try and intimidate you.

Heh. Don’t forget the administrative leave government workers are put on when they are accused of misbehaving. Private employees are just shown the door regardless of circumstances.

Meh, another few months of salary expenses v years and decades. I’d call it a win. Plus it blunts the ‘Trump WH is full of meanies firing folks without any compassion’. Won’t eliminate those false claims but does offer mitigation.

Yes, to other libs, the ends justifying the means of course.

“Congress did not establish the USAID. President John F. Kennedy formed the agency by executive order in 1961.”
****
I read conflicting accounts. Summary from Grok:

“Congress authorized the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). USAID was established through the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, which was passed by Congress and signed into law by President John F. Kennedy on September 4, 1961.
****
Kennedy then formally established USAID via Executive Order 10973 on November 3, 1961, under the authority provided by the Act.
*****
“Congress further solidified USAID’s status with the Foreign Affairs Reform and Restructuring Act of 1998, which designated it as an independent agency…..”

The action of Congress to which this is referring is likely funding for USAID. The POTUS can create an agency by EO, but funding still must come from Congress before it can become operational. However, the creature remains the Executive’s. If it had been created by Congress, there would have been no need for JFK to issue an EO. Grok is likely just plain wrong when is says the “Act” provided JFK with the “authority” to create USAID. This makes no sense, as an EO isn’t necessary if Congress has already created the agency.

Working backwards, it would seem that the POTUS indicates to Congress the desire to create a new agency and he secures the funding (from Congress) before creating the agency with an EO. This makes sense. Why would a POTUS create an unfunded agency for which Congress may never approve funding?

Get the slush fund closed already. Any good it might have done can be picked up elsewhere.

Sadly, the spending addicts in the Senate are busy countering any effects of the DOGE.

They should learn to code.

Pro Tip:
Elon, would you mind terribly if you could put the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on the chopping block, too? Don’t pay any mind to the Massachusetts Indian Princess along the way.

It’s a joke that nearly 5,000 employees were working for the USAid racket. That’s enough employees to support a private sector company with a market capitalization of tens of billions.

I guarantee that every single one of these people were just collecting a paycheck.

If a private business shuts down, you’re lucky to get severance.

USAID is already shut down. They’re keeping 5 staffers because there’s some actual federal law mandating minimum staffing for it. 83% of its programs have been terminated and the remaining programs have already been moved to State Dept.

The building that housed USAID was given over to ICE more than a month ago.

So, none of these people are doing any actual – um, what’s the word I’m looking for? Oh, yeah – WORK.

Yet, they’ll all continue to be paid and get benefits – for doing absolutely nothing – until sometime in September. Maybe.

The upside here is that having them do absolutely nothing is infinitely better for the US, and every other country on the planet, than letting them continue doing what they’d been doing.

Strange that the left doesn’t want to talk about the tranny comic books in Peru or whatever but only about earthquake relief. I thought they were proud of it.

September???

They can a lot of damage in 5 months.

At least demand WEEKLY reviews for ALL employees until then.

Micromanage the living hell out of them.
