Self-Described Communist Instructor at Washington State U. Allegedly Assaulted Student Over Trump Hat
“Mahoney has been active in pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the city and is linked to the Democratic Socialists of America and other progressive labor groups.”

An instructor at Washington State University who is a self-described communist allegedly physically attacked a student, along with an accomplice, for the crime of wearing a Trump themed baseball cap.
This happened in February but the victim is speaking out about the incident now because the instructor, who has been on leave, is set to return to the classroom.
Townhall has more details:
Washington State Instructor Arrested for Brutally Attacking Pro-Trump Student
A Washington State instructor has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a student over their pro-Trump views—yet another disturbing example of the radical intolerance festering on college campuses. While the left preaches “tolerance” and “inclusion,” this incident exposes the growing hypocrisy in academia, where conservative voices are not just silenced but also attacked.
Washington State student Jay Sani was reportedly assaulted outside a popular campus bar by instructor Patrick Mahoney and a PhD student, Gerald Hoff, for wearing a “Take America Back” supporting President Donald Trump.
Sani claims that Mahoney ripped the hat off his head and mocked him by saying “Go get it, b***h,” before punching him in the back several times. Hoff then reportedly kicked Sani several times, while Mahoney grabbed him by the chest and pushed him to the ground. A police report obtained by The Jason Rantz Show on KTTH indicated that Sani was left with bruises and tried to defend himself.
“Once on the ground, Mahoney grabbed Sani’s head and slammed it into the ground. Sani then moved his hands to approximately shoulder height and said something to the effect of he put his hands up to not make the fight worse. Mahoney then said ‘F**k you or f**k off’ to Sani before walking away,” the police report reads.
More from Turning Point USA:
Despite their admissions, Mahoney claimed he did not hit Sani and said he didn’t believe he had done anything illegal. Police, however, emphasized that the incident involved unwanted physical contact. Mahoney also blamed Sani, telling officers he “got what’s coming to him.”
Both Mahoney and Hoff were arrested and charged with fourth-degree misdemeanor assault.
Sani said he did not know Hoff prior to the attack, but said past encounters with Mahoney may have contributed to the assault.
Sani is involved with conservative student groups on campus, including Turning Point USA, while Mahoney is described as a far-left graduate student who teaches a freshman political science course. Mahoney has been active in pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the city and is linked to the Democratic Socialists of America and other progressive labor groups.
Mahoney also appears to be a public supporter of communism, as his official university photo includes him wearing a hammer and sickle pin.
“Mahoney’s goal is to turn this country into a communist dictatorship or a communist authoritarian system,” Sani explained.

Assaulting a student should be (and is in most places) immediate grounds for dismissal for anyone in a teaching position. This instructor doesn’t belong anywhere near a college campus.

Mahoney needs to the crap beaten out of him. That would be illegal of course.
I am envisioning Ward Bond in “the Quiet Man” watching this happening.
One of my favorite John Wayne films.
Well by his own standard only if the person that beat him thinks it is illegal.
He is like the Roadrunner standing happily in mid air, he never studied law.
Not sure I agree with your legal analysis.
The beating of Mahoney would be illegal — unless, of course, he was wearing a short skirt. Then it would be receiving what he had coming to him and perfectly justified.
Is that purple lipstick in the photo?
It’s a special lipstick and lubricant…
Dimsdale: Please don’t share how you know this. Thank you.
Curiously, this makes sense to me, as the bearing grease I see my mobile tech applying to my RV wheels is in fact a deep purple.
The only deep purple I’m familiar with is the rock band along with their ubiquitous song Smoke on the Water.
In Berzerkly a progressive fascist hit a number of conservatives on the head with one of those heavy u shaped bicycle look a that weigh 10 pounds. Instead of being charged with. assault with deadly weapon or attempted murder he was allowed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor with probation.
This type of action is action is truly terrorism and should be prosecuted by the federal government instead of local prosecutors.
The next outbreak of vigilantism in America may well be from “Sentence Correction Squads.”
Typical leftists, claiming that they were provoked to violence by an opinion different than theirs. I’ve read elsewhere that the instructor has been fired and the grad student relieved of his teaching duties. The university declined further comment, or even to identify those involved, citing “federal privacy laws.” Can someone educate me on the alleged federal privacy laws that would apply to individuals accused of assaulting someone and allow the university to attempt to cover this up?
Good. Give the accused a day in court to try to explain the evidence. Given past indicators I suspect a felony conviction is in order.
Sadly, it’ll probably be pled down to misdemeanor distubring the peace or some such.
Booo. The events described are not a misdemeanor.
So it’s ok to go out and beat the living daylights out of anyone that we disagree with, at least in Washington State?
Does this outcome somehow surprise you? It doesn’t surprise me
No, doesn’t surprise me at all. And I have to think that if the circumstances were reversed and it was an “evil MAGA Trump supporter” that beat the living daylights out of Mahoney and friend they’d have the book thrown at them by the prosecutor and be charged with felony assault and a hate crime. Thus the world turns . . .
Let me check my Rule of Law idiot light,
Yup, it’s still off.
Its Washington. He’ll end up plea bargaining to 1 year probation and maybe 200 hours community service.
I wonder if the Feds can step in and charge him felony charges for Domestic terrorism as this is clearly politically motivated?
Sounds like one of them there hate crime thingies that the left is always claiming happens to them. Perhaps this instructor should be charged with one and do some extra time.
Hat hate is deliberately not a protected class.
You aren’t supposed to tolerate Nazis which they don’t understand is why they are intolerable. Projection is awesome it allows you never to think about your own misdeeds.
Has he not been fired yet by Washington State University? If not, why not? Oh, wait, he is a communist.
He hasn’t been fired because he was just expressing his First Amendment rights by beating someone he violently disagreed with and did so off campus. Or I’m sure Washington State University officials will spout some such nonsense as to why Mahoney hasn’t had his employment terminated and Hoff, the PhD student, hasn’t been expelled.
Sounds like “the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.” i.e. textbook definition of terrorism. It should be charged as such.

“I don’t think I did f*****mg something…”
Can NO one express themselves without the F word turning up? Especially a professor?
F yeah. What he said.
Leftists are the least tolerant people, they literally think violence is justified to further their political goals.
There was a similar movement, in Germany, the 1930’s
See, for example. When Must We Kill Them?
Mahoney probably has a voice so high it can only be heard by a bat, and the grad student has a pronounced walk more precisely describable as a “prance”. YMMV.
Try that in a small town.
Pullman is a small town. Seriously small, and its counter on the Idaho side – Moscow – is also small. Sure, both are bigger than anything around them, but that is a low bar on the Palouse.
Problem is not that it is a small town, the problem is that it is a university town, which is VERY different than the areas surrounding it.
Either get out of deep blue areas where wokiestas assault others with multiple attackers or go armed. If the jurisdiction won’t allow armed Citizens then the options have narrowed. Your safety is your responsibility.
Only commies think assault is illegal; they think it is a form of speech…
Sure looks like felony battery to me, but this is Washington State where a statue of Lenin stands in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. So don’t expect anything serious to happen to a Communist who attacks a Trump supporter. If the attackers can get a jury trial, then I’d expect an acquittal.
Don’t try this kind of thing in Texas where lot of people walk around armed. A question for Andrew Branca: was this attack serious enough to justify lethal force in defense? Would a reasonable person fear an imminent threat of serious bodily harm or death? We have two against one, and the attack was unprovoked unless one believes that wearing a MAGA is enough of a provocation to justify physical force.
I’m afraid that until one of these unhinged violent leftists suffers serious consequences, we will see more of this kind of violence. Especially since Mahoney and Hoff are likely to get away with the mildest of punishments.
BTW let’s not forget that Austin is as blue as Berkeley. Had Mahoney and Hoff done this here, they might get the same leniency as in Seattle.
Communist Fascist thugs gonna Communist Fascist thug.

suppose instead that the victim here, particularly as he lives in a college town with the concomitant population of crazies, had taken the time to learn even the rudimentary basics of self-defense–take a look at the aggressors–come on, a soyboy and his current punch–the victim, had he possessed a little training, could have dropped both those clowns without much hassle and left them pissing and gasping on the ground, picked-up his hat and gone on with his evening
as the video portrays, they instigated the confrontation–he would’ve ended it and walked away–they messed with the wrong person
Since he’s a full-fledged call me let’s show him just how much fun a gulag can really be
Lessee- commie teaching freshman poli-sci. Drunk much on that power over captive audience?
This is why the University system needs to have its ass handed to them. This class exists for
1- Student athletes.
2- Students who don’t have a plan and eventually just become teachers.
3- Future CDL truck drivers because they loathe teaching.
4- Extortion for calling students pursuing legit degrees “well rounded”
I notice that the vile, stupid and evil Dhimmi-crats aren’t at all perturbed about a white, Irish-American communist teacher attacking a student “off color. “
*of color.*
AG Bondi could you please have the Civil Rights division investigate? Make it a federal case and charge these two communists with deprivation of the victims 1st Amendment rights. Then when you develop the evidence charge them with domestic terrorism. At the same time have the local AAG begin an investigation of Washington State. Stop any federal monies going to the State of Washington’s university system until the investigation is completed.
