This is a decade or two overdue but better late than never.

The College Fix reports:

GOP lawmakers launch investigation into high Ivy League tuition prices

Top Republican lawmakers launched an investigation into Ivy League universities’ tuition costs this week, alleging potential violations of antitrust laws.

Led by Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Chuck Grassley and House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan, the probe asks the eight universities to produce documents “regarding their apparent collusion to raise tuition prices,” a news release states.

“We are particularly concerned that Ivy League member institutions appear to collectively raise tuition prices while engaging in price discrimination by offering selective financial aid packages to maximize profit,” the lawmakers wrote.

As The Hill reports:

The Republicans are concerned about alleged collusion and potential violations of antitrust laws to keep college prices up. …

The GOP lawmakers point to examples such as requiring students to stay on campus during their first year and get a meal plan; a lawsuit accusing the College Board of working with institutions to reduce financial aid availability for students; and the Council of Ivy League Presidents holding meetings about admission practices.

“These institutions establish the industry standard for tuition pricing, creating an umbrella effect for all colleges and universities to justify higher tuition costs than they could otherwise charge in a competitive market,” the lawmakers wrote.

The institutions under investigation are Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Princeton University, University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University.

Wow… sounds like a perfect description of the “collusion” my lefty acquaintances are always telling me that American corporations are exercising to milk consumers, and that’s why the economy stays bad.

But I see they put Grassley in charge, which tells me that this is all about making noise but no actual change. He and Issa are the designated hatchet men the RINOs put in charge of investigations when all they want is a handful of “damning” press releases but no actual consequences.

Waste of time. Who cares. They charge that amount because of demand. If they didn’t have 10 qualified people trying for every class slot they’d charge less.

Hey Senate. Stop grandstanding. Do something real about something important for once.

The whole point is to punish through the process. It’s a waste of time only if the Senators could use the same time to hold consequential investigations on more important subjects, This is their way of masking the embarrassing fact that they just don’t have the will to do that.

Fast and Furious? Lots of soundbites, lots of crimes found, nobody punished. J6 Committee Corruption? Lots of soundbites, lots of crimes found, nobody punished, COVID hearings? Lots of soundbites, lots of crimes found, nobody punished. You’ve heard this before, I’ll stop myself.

Actually they charge that much because a lot of students don’t pay tuition.

Harvard is 100% free to any student whose combined family income is under 100k and anyone under 200k gets a huge discount.
