Biden’s Transportation Dept. Left Trump With $43 Billion Backlog of Projects

Biden’s Transportation Dept. Left Trump With $43 Billion Backlog of Projects

Even worse…the projects contained “green and social justice requirements.”

Did former President Joe Biden’s Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg do anything?

No.

President Donald Trump’s Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Buttigieg left behind a backlog of projects worth $43 billion.

Even worse…the projects contained “green and social justice requirements.”

From Fox News:

Most recently, one of these backlogged grants was the Washington Bridge in Rhode Island, which has been closed since 2023 on its westbound side until proper repairs are made, according to the Rhode Island state government.
“This backlog, along with ridiculous DEI and Green New Deal requirements, prevented real infrastructure from being built and funded. Under the Trump Administration, we’ve ripped out this red tape and are getting back to what matters,” Duffy said. “As part of our work to deliver real results, we are pleased to announce $221 million in grants for Rhode Island’s Washington Bridge — a critical link that carries thousands of vehicles a day.”

A DOT spokesperson told Fox News Digital on background that the backlog totals $43 billion and that 1,000 grant winners were selected by the Biden administration after Trump won but before then-President Joe Biden left office, which made up for $9 billion of the total needing to be made official.

The DOJ started reviewing the grants and will use “executive grant agreements” regarding major infrastructure projects.

Trump told Duffy to take out all the social justice requirements, which Duffy gladly agreed to do.

Well it’s a good thing that Buttigieg didn’t do anything. Now the projects can be done right, done better without DEI.

Democratic state Rhode Island isn’t the one asking to strip the DEI out. Trump is doing that, and Dems will probably find a way to demand it back, but RI just needs its bridges.

So the GW Bridge was one of those racist bridges?
Wow, 20 years crossing it, I never knew!
When are they renaming it after Sheldon Whitehouse?

Maybe we should have each State pay for its own roads, bridges, tunnels, subways, buses, trolley cars, trains, tunnels? Let’s get back to that by junking the Federal fuel tax and let States set priorities for transportation and then create the revenue structure to pay for them.

GW Bridge is on I-195, so makes it federal under the current arrangement.

Yes indeed and what I’m proposing is ending the current structure of the Feds sending States transportation funding and ending federal fuel taxes, closing out the ‘highway trust fund’.

Push the responsibility to the States to build and maintain the transportation systems in their States and communities. If the ACELA corridor States want AMTRAK they can pay for it. If Boston wants to dig tunnels under their harbor they can pay for it. Want cute trolley cars or electric busses? Cool, but the State and local gov’t should pay for it.

I live on a dirt road, not gravel, dirt. Who cleans it? Who grades it? Who digs out the ditches? Who removes debris from ditches? Who removes fallen limbs and entire trees after high winds? Not the County…my neighbors and I do. The four of us go out and get it done over the 3 mile long stretch of road. If we can figure out how to maintain our little stretch of of roadway then so can everyone else.

What’s the usual back log? This is not meaningful w/out context.

I have no doubt Joe/Pete pooped the bed, but not really meaningful w/out knowing what backlog Trump left them and what Obama left Trump etc.

Pothole Pete, a WEF stooge, is a complete and utter joke. Useless as mayor of SouthBend, Worthless as Secretary of Transportation. Has he actually done anything besides breast feed? The only and I mean only good thing about this clown ever becoming President, God help us all, is that he is so incompetent he would never actually do anything while in office.

I’m actually not sure what Buttplug ever did as Sec of Transportation. At least we know Mayorkas kept the borders wide open

Biden Administration’s motto: Never do today, what you can put off till tomorrow.

First, remove anything that has green and social Justice crap attached to it. Secondly, remove anything that’s happening in a sanctuary jurisdiction, they deserve nothing from the rest of the country.

From the headline, I assumed I was going to read another story about how Biden piled up a bunch of future contracts for his Democrat cronies so that Trump couldn’t cancel them. Throwing gold bars off the overpasses, that sort of thing. I’m pleasantly relieved.

The news report was bizarre. They made it sound as if Trump were opposed to roads and bridges. Bizarre.

Many projects should be a quick fix – anything referencing GREEN (other than paint color) or Environment should be scrapped in favor of REAL infrastructure!
