Schumer Saying He’ll Vote Yes on CR to Keep Government Open

The Senate Republicans need more than eight Democrats to vote for the continuing resolution (CR).

Well…the Democrats are about to cave because Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said he would vote for it.

But Schumer claimed the vote would give President Donald Trump even more power.

Yeah, Schumer. We all know you’re doing it because you guys would get the blame for a shutdown:

And it’s not really a decision, it’s a Hobson’s choice. Either proceed with the bill before us or risk Donald Trump throwing America into the chaos of a shutdown. This, in my view, is no choice at all. While the CR bill is very bad, the potential for a shutdown has consequences for America that are much, much worse for sure. The Republican bill is a terrible option. It is not a clean CR. It is deeply partisan. It doesn’t address far too many of this country’s needs, but I believe allowing Donald Trump to take even more, even much more power via a government shutdown, is a far worse option. And before I explain why, let me be clear about one thing. No one on my side of the aisle wants the government shut down. Members who support this CR do not want a government shutdown. Members who oppose this CR do not want a government shutdown.

The CR will keep the government funded until September 30. It is a terrible bill that adds more spending.

Democrats will likely add amendments to the bill to bring in more votes and give them an excuse to vote for the CR.

I bet those who vote for it will also come from Democrats who face a tough reelection in 2026.

The vote won’t help Democrats, though, because every House Democrat voted against it.
