Mark Kelly Ridiculed for Musk Derangement Syndrome After Selling Tesla Car, Buying Gas-Guzzling SUV

Like President Donald Trump, Tesla CEO Elon Musk seems to bring out the worst in his critics.

This is something we’ve seen over the last couple of months, with unhinged leftist protests at Tesla showrooms and, more disturbingly, violence directed at Tesla dealerships and car charging stations that have included instances of arson and shots being fired.

Another form of protest against the DOGE advisor has been the virtue-signaling we’ve seen from prominent Democrat public figures like singer/entertainer Sheryl Crow, who made a big show of waving goodbye to her Tesla vehicle in a video shared to Instagram last month.

Crow said she used the money from the sale of her Tesla to donate to NPR. This, of course, was not the own she thought it was since that is precisely what conservatives have said supporters of the left-wing media outlet should do instead of one more dime of taxpayer money going towards funding it and PBS:

Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ)  is another who wanted to let us know that he was done for good with Elon Musk and Tesla.

In a video shared to his social media accounts, Kelly announced that Friday would be his last day driving a Tesla because he could no longer stand to be associated with a person who he said was “slashing/cutting” a lot of programs and who he claimed “turned out to be an a**hole”:

“Every time I get in this car, in the last 60 days or so, it reminds me of just how much damage Elon Musk and Donald Trump is doing to our country,” Kelly said in the roughly minute-long video. The 61-year-old senator and retired astronaut also commented on Musk and President Donald Trump’s efforts to reduce federal spending by “slashing Social Security,” “firing veterans” and “cutting health care benefits for poor people and seniors.” He added: “It’s one bad thing after the next.”While standing in front of his Tesla, Kelly said in the clip that he “thinks it’s time for an upgrade” and that he is “doing the right thing” by “getting rid of” his electric vehicle.

Watch:

What is that “new ride”? A gas-guzzling Chevy Tahoe:

“Elon Musk kind of turned out to be an asshole,” Kelly, a Democrat, said in a video posted on X, explaining why he sold his car. “And I don’t want to be driving a car built and designed by an asshole.”

Kelly pulled up to Senate votes on Friday in front of the US Capitol in a 2025 Chevy Tahoe Z71, a spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider. Unlike his former Tesla, it is an all-gas vehicle. It gets an estimated 15 miles per gallon city, 20 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined.

Chevy Tahoes are manufactured in Texas.

Soo… I guess “climate change” is over?

It should be noted that Kelly’s news came hot on the heels of something he didn’t mention—the fact that Musk called him a “traitor” earlier this week in a tweet posted after Kelly wrote a thread criticizing Trump’s handling of the Ukraine-Russia ceasefire negotiations and implicitly suggested that putting conditions on support instead of writing a blank check was like abandoning an ally in their time of need:

Whatever the case may be, if Kelly thought selling his Tesla was going to bring about hurt feelings on the Trump-Musk side of things, he was sadly mistaken:

’nuff said.
