Mark Kelly Ridiculed for Musk Derangement Syndrome After Selling Tesla Car, Buying Gas-Guzzling SUV

“Trading in an EV for an SUV to own Trump and Musk. Trump’s victory is nearly complete.”

Like President Donald Trump, Tesla CEO Elon Musk seems to bring out the worst in his critics.

This is something we’ve seen over the last couple of months, with unhinged leftist protests at Tesla showrooms and, more disturbingly, violence directed at Tesla dealerships and car charging stations that have included instances of arson and shots being fired.

Another form of protest against the DOGE advisor has been the virtue-signaling we’ve seen from prominent Democrat public figures like singer/entertainer Sheryl Crow, who made a big show of waving goodbye to her Tesla vehicle in a video shared to Instagram last month.

Crow said she used the money from the sale of her Tesla to donate to NPR. This, of course, was not the own she thought it was since that is precisely what conservatives have said supporters of the left-wing media outlet should do instead of one more dime of taxpayer money going towards funding it and PBS:

Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ)  is another who wanted to let us know that he was done for good with Elon Musk and Tesla.

In a video shared to his social media accounts, Kelly announced that Friday would be his last day driving a Tesla because he could no longer stand to be associated with a person who he said was “slashing/cutting” a lot of programs and who he claimed “turned out to be an a**hole”:

“Every time I get in this car, in the last 60 days or so, it reminds me of just how much damage Elon Musk and Donald Trump is doing to our country,” Kelly said in the roughly minute-long video.

The 61-year-old senator and retired astronaut also commented on Musk and President Donald Trump’s efforts to reduce federal spending by “slashing Social Security,” “firing veterans” and “cutting health care benefits for poor people and seniors.” He added: “It’s one bad thing after the next.”

While standing in front of his Tesla, Kelly said in the clip that he “thinks it’s time for an upgrade” and that he is “doing the right thing” by “getting rid of” his electric vehicle.

Watch:

What is that “new ride”? A gas-guzzling Chevy Tahoe:

“Elon Musk kind of turned out to be an asshole,” Kelly, a Democrat, said in a video posted on X, explaining why he sold his car. “And I don’t want to be driving a car built and designed by an asshole.”

Kelly pulled up to Senate votes on Friday in front of the US Capitol in a 2025 Chevy Tahoe Z71, a spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider. Unlike his former Tesla, it is an all-gas vehicle. It gets an estimated 15 miles per gallon city, 20 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined.

Chevy Tahoes are manufactured in Texas.

Soo… I guess “climate change” is over?

It should be noted that Kelly’s news came hot on the heels of something he didn’t mention—the fact that Musk called him a “traitor” earlier this week in a tweet posted after Kelly wrote a thread criticizing Trump’s handling of the Ukraine-Russia ceasefire negotiations and implicitly suggested that putting conditions on support instead of writing a blank check was like abandoning an ally in their time of need:

Whatever the case may be, if Kelly thought selling his Tesla was going to bring about hurt feelings on the Trump-Musk side of things, he was sadly mistaken:

’nuff said.

Space travel must have demented him. This anti gun idiot is talking out of both sides of his mouth. What a hypocrite.

Okay Mark, now REALLY show Elon Musk and get all of your Democrat Senate buddies to vote for “Drill Baby, Drill” programs and ramp up oil and fossil fuel production! That’ll really get Elon angry!

Pretty sure I saw Kelly’s Tesla on the used car lot this morning.
It had bumper sticker on it that said, “Ask me about my AR-15.”

Kelly appears to be a fool, but Musk should express himself more carefully.

Maybe Musk should, but given the current level of incivility in public discourse which Kelly has also engaged in he doesn’t have much room to be upset. I am not certain it is an unreasonable word to describe someone who places a higher priority on the National Security of another Nation than that of our own Nation or the well being our fellow US Citizens. Especially on a social media platform v inside a courtroom making a legal argument. Let’s bring back dueling and see if that won’t clean up our lack of civility.

Perhaps a sitting US senator shouldn’t call a private citizen an asshole in the media?

Kelly is a director of the Giffords gun-grabbing group. He wants to disarm American civilians. He IS a traitor.

Pretty sure he bought the Tesla for the same reason he ditched it; to appease his constituents and gain/maintain votes. It’s all political theater.

The whole ‘OMG MUST SELL MY TESLA’ thing has just been astroturfed nonsense from leftists. They tried to get a bunch of ‘influencers’ to do it over a month ago, but the influencers stopped doing it because every time they got mocked and ridiculed and lost a bunch of followers and subscribers.

As always, politicians are the last to know something was abandoned.

So the whole thing with electric car mandates and ‘climate change’ was a fraud all along.

I’m shocked, shocked…

Was really interested in a Tesla, but hey, might be able to get one cheap now. LOL. They have no clue how stupid they really are and showing us.

Kelly shows what a clown looks like as he dumps his Musk’sTesla while gransdtanding on Musk’s X.

“Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad” The madness includes the EV itself which hardly has zero emissions. Where does Kelly think the energy that moves his Tesla comes from? How about the energy it takes to fabricate the materials that make up his Tesla? Mostly fossil fuels.

According to the EIA, about 40% of the electric power generation comes from renewables and nuclear. So 60% comes from fossil fuels. With an EV we move the combustion point from under the hood to the power station. Thus EVs are not zero emission. If anyone wants I can go into the details of the losses and efficiencies to show that EVs don’t qualify as carbon neutral. Kelly and a whole lot of other people don’t seem to understand the thermodynamics of electric cars. I guess I need to publish all my calculations, but I don’t think that will convince the fanatics.

Funny how they’re now trying to group ‘renewables and nuclear’.

40% doesn’t come from ‘renewables and nuclear’.

Almost all of that is pure nuclear, with so-called ‘renewables’ a small fraction.

Nuclear is the only game in town to actually replace fossil fuels.

In college in the late 70s I took a course at URI called Physics and the Energy Crisis. It was literally a physics class that covered all of what you called out. People don’t understand all the energy costs (including transmission loss) that go into things like manufacturing a car. All the refining and manufacturing of all the parts are often overlooked. When Obama pulled the cash for clunkers what was lost on most of the public was the energy-cost of manufacturing the car that was disabled and junked. The fact that the car was running and could potentially run longer was ignored, along with the energy cost to produce its replacement. If the formula were paid out for all to see I’d bet it would be cheaper to continue to run the less efficient clunker and amortize its energy cost over a longer period of time. But we were presented with a fear-driven marketing campaign. Damn Democrats.

what a lightweight–if he really wanted to make a statement, to demonstrate the imminent threat trump / musk pose to ” democracy,” why not resign his seat in protest ?–or sepuku ?

come on, mark–show everyone the strength of your convictions

They keep talking about slashing Social Security, medicare, medicaid, and veterans benefits. Does anyone on here know a single person whose government benefits of any kind have changed since Trump took office? Can they produce anyone this has happened to?

Can anyone prove racial violence from white to POC? Nope. All race claims have been proven to be hoaxes perpetrated by the “Victim.”

Any claims of losing benefits will be found to be a hoax.

Except in the cases of the slacker class who have lost federal financial support – mainly because they are physically capable of actually working but choose not to. Even those claims will be shown to be nonsense.

He should have rode a bike to Congress – like Pothole Pete.

Au contraire, I think it would be apropos, since Kelly himself is an a**hole.
His wife Gabby should wash his mouth (fingers?) out with soap.

Kelly has sand in his ManGyna.

If we look at the upside of this story, we have Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) showing us, that the all the nonsense about Climate Change dictating what automobiles we are allowed to buy and operate, is over.

Per Kelly, “Elon Musk kind of turned out to be an asshole,” Even a demented third grader knows that it takes one to know one. This proves that even a demented third grader is smarter than Senator Kelly. What a weird dweeb.

Democrats can sell as many Teslas as they want, it won’t matter. Tesla has already made their money off of them. When the true believers of EVs are done with their temper tantrums Tesla will be more than glad to sell them another.
