After Joy Reid Firing, Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann Agree That MSNBC is a Hotbed of Racism

“They’ve only had four women of color host their own shows. They’ve now fired them ALL.”

Now that Joy Reid has been finally let go by MSNBC, some of her network colleagues and fellow travelers on the far left are reacting the only way that they seem to know how: by crying racism.

Even Rachel Maddow, who still works for MSNBC, and Keith Olbermann, who used to work for MSNBC, are making this claim. It simply can’t be because of Reid’s horrible ratings. It has to be because of some greater failure of social justice on the part of the network that pays Maddow millions of dollars a year.

Maddow commented on Reid’s firing during her show.

From FOX News:

“I am 51 years old. I have been gainfully employed since I was 12. And I have had so many different kinds of jobs, you wouldn’t believe me if I told you. But in all of the jobs I have had, in all of the years I have been alive, there is no colleague for whom I have had more affection and more respect than Joy Reid,” Maddow said.

“I love everything about her. I have learned so much from her. I have so much more to learn from her,” she continued. “I do not want to lose her as a colleague here at MSNBC, and personally, I think it is a bad mistake to let her walk out the door. It is not my call, and I understand that, but that’s what I think.”

Maddow went on to call it “unnerving” for the network to cancel the shows of “two non-White hosts” in its weekday programming as well as “The Katie Phang Show” on the weekends, noting that “The Alex Wagner Show” will no longer fill in Maddow’s 9 p.m. ET timeslot for the remainder of the week, which is instead going to “Inside with Jen Psaki.”

“And that feels worse than bad, no matter who replaces them,” Maddow said. “That feels indefensible, and I do not defend it.”

See the video below:

Keith Olbermann, who was a bit of a mentor to Maddow back in the day, was much more blunt in his assessment of MSNBC’s dismissal of Reid.

From Variety:

Olbermann’s comment came ahead of Rachel Maddow’s Feb. 24 show on MSNBC, in which she directly called out the network for parting ways with Reid. Maddow said on air: “I do not want to lose her as a colleague here at MSNBC, and personally, I think it is a bad mistake to let her walk out the door.” She also called it “indefensible” that MSNBC’s “two non-white hosts in primetime are losing their shows.”

“Of course MSNBC’s firing of Joy Reid was racist,” Olbermann added in another post on X. “They’ve only had four women of color host their own shows. They’ve now fired them ALL.”

Watch:

Two major media figures associated with MSNBC have now accused the network of racism. How can any progressive continue to work there? Why hasn’t Rachel Maddow quit her show? Is it really possible that everything they say is completely fake and just for politics and for show? Say it isn’t so.

Black people can never be fired

Ever

I guess there’s a bunch of racist whites who run MSDNC…so Madcow will surely resign this week.

JohnC in reply to gonzotx. | February 26, 2025 at 3:17 pm

I have a feeling Rachel Maddow is going to have her concerns about MSNBC only firing black hosts addressed in the near future.

    diver64 in reply to gonzotx. | February 26, 2025 at 6:00 pm

That does butt up against the “we have to make money and overt racism doesn’t” thing. None of the people fired broke 100,000 viewers in a country of 350,000,000. That someone would employ them for as long as they had does indeed whisper racism but in the reverse kind.

SuddenlyHappyToBeHere in reply to gonzotx. | February 27, 2025 at 9:34 am

Well, douche bag, it would appear that reality demonstrates you are wrong. Joy Reid was fired. WTFU, you racist idiot.

Maybe they are simply race realists. A certain degree of self delusion is necessary for self respect and civility, but when it reaches this absurd, ruinous level, it’s time for an ice bath and a smack in the face.

I would say ‘leftist racism’ because her auidence were leftists and her show was failing. The viewership in the key 25-54 demographic was abysmal. For example, on the 20th of February, it was just 59,000.

In the end, her show was #8 on MSNBC DESPITE being in a prime-time slot.

So, once again, the left shows its true NIMBY colors. They’ll put thier BLM signs up in their yards because it costs nothing. But they won’t even spend the time to pretend to watch Joy Ried.

So Olberman and Maddow accuse their employer of racism but they’re still there? Put your money where your mouths are, people.

If you can’t or won’t perform you’re out the door in favor of someone who can and will. Anybody who’s had a real job knows this.

Maddow must be thinking $25M or principle, $25M or principle…. I’ll take the $25M because principle doesn’t pay the bills.

ztakddot in reply to DSHornet. | February 26, 2025 at 10:51 am

Olberman doesn’t work there. He doesn’t work anywhere. He’s too toxic for anyone to hire him.

Madcow works there 1 day a week for something like 25M a year. She definitely should be fired. Not a good investment but god forbid they lose the lesbian segment too.

    diver64 in reply to DSHornet. | February 26, 2025 at 6:02 pm

I notice Riki is wailing about her staff being cut but she didn’t pony up any of her $25,000,000 contract to keep them. Like a good socialist she is all too willing to spend your money but keep hers close to the vest

There are surely lots of examples like Thomas Sowell or Walter Williams who are outstandingly smart blacks. It’s just a matter of finding them instead of the opposite.

And the room got strangely still….

Insert the meme here of the guy suggesting something like “Maybe we could sell things our customers want?” in the staff meeting, followed by him being defenestrated.

    diver64 in reply to rhhardin. | February 26, 2025 at 6:07 pm

There are a number of exceptionally qualified and brilliant blacks but unfortunately they are not considered as they have left the plantation.

I assume Maddow is doing a comedy bit since a judge ruled her show to be satire years ago so she could get out of a defamation suit.

Take a drive and witness the difference of neighborhoods with our current self-segregated society.

Birds of a feather tend to flock together…don’t force a murder of crows into our tree.

rhhardin in reply to scooterjay. | February 26, 2025 at 9:59 am

Alien birds do have peculiar feathers. If you assign numbers to the letters of the alphabet, wrapping around back to “a” after “z”, the first letters give you the series 1 2 4 8 16 32

If they were fired because their ratings were too low, does it mean MSNBC viewers are racist? They’ll watch Maddow but not Reid.

    AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to sisyphus. | February 26, 2025 at 10:44 am

Black viewers won’t watch a black host, and black voters couldn’t get a black vice president into the presidency.

    But, racism.

It’s those racist viewers of MSNBC that don’t watch that are the real problem.

How can Joy’s dismissal be racist if two of her three replacements black?

Has Maddow ever heard, “don’t bite the hand that feeds you?” Evidently not. She’s paid millions every year– great gig. As her show has the highest rating for MSNBC, I guess she feels she has a safe job, and can trash her employer. But I think it aways a bad idea to trash one’s employer because management often gets emotional and kills a money-maker. MSNBC has gotten a big boost in ratings with the election of Trump, and that helps her.

I watched almost no TV since the early 90s. I can’t stand any of the talking heads of whatever persuasion. I agree with Newton Minow who was chairman of the FCC during the JFK administration, and called television a “vast wasteland” in a speech to the National Association Broadcasters in May 1961. Alas, in my opinion, TV has gotten worse since then.

    diver64 in reply to oden. | February 26, 2025 at 6:09 pm

The highest rating on MSNBC reminds me of the highest rung on the ladder leading into the sewer. Not much of a bragging right. Her snark was good for it’s time with the outrage culture but has dimmed in recent time

Joy Reid is racist.

curly surfhouse | February 26, 2025 at 11:10 am

This is getting so tiresome…these clowns pretending ratings and viewership mean nothing at all…Hollywood is doing the exact same thing…but it’ll all stop as the flow of our tax dollars to these failed institutions dries up…thanks PDJT and Elon!

BigRosieGreenbaum | February 26, 2025 at 11:12 am

If they’re so racist how did Joy manage to keep her job all of these years?
Rachel, dude, you’re an entertainer and so is Joybird. The audience voted her out. Go count your money and hope you’re not next on the block.

The Gentle Grizzly | February 26, 2025 at 11:17 am

Racism. A word to which I’ve become very tired.

ahad haamoratsim | February 26, 2025 at 11:24 am

Shouldn’t MSNBC fire a bunch of white male hosts in the name of balance?

So today’s narrative is that MSNBC is a racist network?
Whatever. I can work with that all day.

Dolce Far Niente | February 26, 2025 at 12:47 pm

A key belief of the racist mind is to insist that blacks must never be judged by the same standards as anyone else.

This belief is rooted in their core tenant of black racial inferiority; to judge blacks by the same yardstick as whites or Asians would be like criticizing a child because they cannot perform tasks at an adult level.

Because racists like Maddow cannot emotionally allow the concept of racial inferiority to be openly expressed, they mask it by declaring any failure by blacks is based on the racism of whites.

And because the left-wing belief in white racism absolves them of any responsibility for their own failings, most blacks go along with it.

My take is Maddow is trying to get fired herself. She has become lazy and rich. Now she takes a pay cut and her staff trimmed to a size in keeping with her audience.

Some of the replacements are people of color. Nothing like lying (withholding facts) by omission.

“I think it is a bad mistake to let her walk out the door.”

Wait! Rachel Maddow thinks!?!

Assumes facts not in evidence.

irishgladiator63 | February 26, 2025 at 1:57 pm

“But in all of the jobs I have had, in all of the years I have been alive, there is no colleague for whom I have had more affection and more respect than Joy Reid,” Maddow said.

This is like Biden saying Hunter is the best man he knows. It’s just sad.

Maddow should start identifying as a woman color and see what happens.

Note that the vile Maddow has no problem accepting an obscene $25 million (recently reduced from $30 million) in annual compensation from allegedly racist MSNBC. No problem working for an allegedly racist subsidiary of media giant, Comcast.

Comcast execs should send Maddow packing, next.

starlightnite50yrsago | February 27, 2025 at 8:54 am

The Madcow and her phony race card. She needs to be fired next. No news is better than biased news.

Not because some of their talking idiots say so, but it is and has long been obvious that MSNBC is racist. Any organization that pursues DIE is racist, by definition. You cannot advance anyone on account of race, biological sex, claimed gender, or any other physical characteristic without being racist, sexist or otherwise violating the law.

If they really bought what they’re saying, they’d all resign in protest. Save MSNBC a lot of severance pay.
