Former NJ Sen. Bob Menendez Gets 11 Year Prison Sentence in Bribery Case

The judge to “Gold Bar” Bob: “Somewhere along the way, you became, I’m sorry to say, a corrupt politician.”

U.S. District Judge Sidney sentenced former New Jersey Democrat Sen. Bob Menendez to 11 years in prison after a jury found the 71-year-old guilty of bribery, fraud, and acting as a foreign agent for Egypt.

Menendez faced 18 federal charges, including bribery, extortion, fraud, acting as a foreign agent, and obstruction.

From The Associated Press:

“You were successful, powerful, you stood at the apex of our political system,” the judge said. ”Somewhere along the way, and I don’t know when it was, you lost your way and working for the public good became working for your good.”

Menendez’s actions, the judge said, feeds the cynicism of voters.

“What’s been the result?” he said, noting a lengthy investigation of a five-year crime. “You lost your senate seat. You lost your chairmanship and you lost your good name.”

Menendez, 71, who tearfully told the judge in court that he was chastened, was defiant when he stepped before cameras at a bank of microphones outside the Manhattan courthouse, saying: “I am innocent.”

The New York Post quoted the judge: “Somewhere along the way, you became, I’m sorry to say, a corrupt politician.”

The Southern District of New York charged Menendez and his wife Nadine with allegedly accepting “hundreds of thousands of dollars of bribes” to protect three New Jersey businessmen and work on behalf of Egypt.

At the time, Menendez chaired the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

The feds accused the Menendezes “accepted cash, gold, payments toward a home mortgage, compensation for a low or-no-show job, a luxury vehicle, and other things of value.”

“Gold Bar” Bob vowed to appeal.

Not long enough.

Do we actually have enough jail space for every crooked politician in our country AND the criminally insane of the illegal aliens?

Amateur! He should have had a relative serve on the board of a corporation he was completely unqualified for. Then he could have raked in millions without even having to hide it in his freezer.

“The Men Return.”

He should have engaged Hunter’s “firm” to launder the money. It worked for the Big Guy.

I sort of wonder if he now regrets going against the Iran deal. Because we know that’s why they actually went after it. If he played along, they’d have simply ignored his corruption like they do everybody else.

Yeah, the information about Bob’s involvement with underage Dominican women – factilated by Mengen was dropped by his 2012 Senate opponent and sank like a rock, ignored by NJ media. After Bob opposed the JCPOA in 2014, Obama unleashed the reds to pursue those allegations (dropping the more salacious ones). Ended in a hung jury for Bob though Mengen served time for the quid pro quo of his corruption.

Consider, if you will, the notion that Menendez Is a piker with regard to the corruption on Capitol Hill.

You could fill an entire wing at the prison at Guantanamo with elected officials that have violated their oath of office.

Time now to go after Crooked Joe.

This case proves that justice is a possibility.

A guilty verdict shows that Menendez:

a. is a corrupt politician
b. is a Democrat
c. is a useful idiot
d. is sorry he didn’t give the Big Guy 10%

How do you know he is a Democrat. The CNN report I saw didn’t mention it and the comment section seems to believe he is somehow a Republican who learned to be corrupt from Trump.

(I am not kidding this what the comments on YouTube for the CNN report said over and over again.)

I’m honestly shocked Biden’s staff didn’t insert his name into the pardon list.

I don’t understand the gold bars he took for his stash. I can see cash, crypto etc but gold requires selling for any value and if you wander into a place with gold bars there will be questions and a paper trail. Very strange but he got away with being corrupt for a long time.

I can’t wait for Nadine to go on trial. This couple is straight out of a David Lynch film.
