Trump Nominates Former FL AG Pam Bondi for Attorney General

Trump Nominates Former FL AG Pam Bondi for Attorney General

Matt Gaetz withdrew from consideration this morning.

President-elect Donald Trump has nominated former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi for attorney general after Matt Gaetz withdrew.

Bondi served as Florida attorney general from 2011 to 2019.

Trump said:

I am proud to announce former Attorney General of the Great State of Florida, Pam Bondi, as our next Attorney General of the United States. Pam was a prosecutor for nearly 20 years, where she was very tough on Violent Criminals, and made the streets safe for Florida Families. Then, as Florida’s first female Attorney General, she worked to stop the trafficking of deadly drugs, and reduce the tragedy of Fentanyl Overdose Deaths, which have destroyed many families across our Country. She did such an incredible job, that I asked her to serve on our Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission during my first Term — We saved many lives!

For too long, the partisan Department of Justice has been weaponized against me and other Republicans – Not anymore. Pam will refocus the DOJ to its intended purpose of fighting Crime, and Making America Safe Again. I have known Pam for many years — She is smart and tough, and is an AMERICA FIRST Fighter, who will do a terrific job as Attorney General!

Bondi served as one of Trump’s lawyers during his first impeachment trial.

The longtime Trump ally also showed her support for him at his Manhattan trial.

Bondi chairs the Center for Litigation at the America First Poliy Institute, a pro-Trump think tank.

You thought Gartz was bad, how about Bondi?
Block my appointees will you?
Plus iwhen Gaetz was the nominee he could not be names acting AG. Now Trump is free to name him acting AG.

She can chose most of her own staff including Gaetz. He could run free under her cover. Special Council Gaetz.

As I understand it only someone who is already serving as an officer of the USA can head a department in an acting capacity.

Some guy on FOX suggested making Gaetz Bondi’s Chief of Staff,

This is what I was thinking 😂 You block my appointees and I’ll propose someone ten times harder who will be like a cockperspaniel with left footed socks! 😂 Spaniel owners will get that reference! 😂

Yes, burn it all to the ground! The establishment deserves nothing less! 🖕

What I like about her nomination is the anti-garland feel she brings. Extremely capable, diligent and intelligent with a backbone and even though she will be Trumps pit bull I doubt she will be a spineless jellyfish like Garland just doing the fuck he pleases without an understanding of consequences.

    Question for the DOJ:
How can you convict someone of statutory rape (a sitting US Congressman) of an underage woman when the woman was using an authentic, state-issued, State of Florida driver’s license to present as being of (legal) age?

    Matt Gaetz: What actually happened?
    https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1859748387291107797.html

From the author: “Thank you so much for taking the time to read the whole thread! I know it was long but there really wasn’t any way to shorten it.”

You can trust no one in any agency in any department of the government.

He isn’t being charged with anything by the law. But please understand the only people who give a dam if she was 17 or 18 are called police officers, to everyone else Gaetz was acting disgracefully.

If she can get the same stuff done with a smoother side, go for it. She’s probably better when it comes to both legal and executive experience. Gaetz will land on his feet and the movement to restore common sense will continue. The woke extremists that are exposed and rejected are not going away quietly.

When Gaetz was nominated, a lot of people speculated this was Trump playing 4D chess to remove a thorn from the House. They predicted Gaetz would withdraw. I never saw Gaetz as a serious pick, and his withdrawal happened way faster than I expected. Biondi, a relatively stellar pick with credentials and experience, was waiting in the wings. I think she will sail through.

The Gaetz nomination did its job, by putting the career people on notice.

4D chess isn’t that hard. You only have to beat the other guy, and he’s no better than you are. It’s like outrunning bears.

Danny in reply to dwb. | November 22, 2024 at 2:23 am

Bondi does a much better job at that.

    She brings

    1. Proven competence at running major legal organizations

    2. Proven competence and a stellar legal career

    3. A proven ability to work with other people to achieve an agenda

She will know how to actually clear the DOJ, not lose cases in court one after another, and be an asset rather than a liability.

She hasn’t got a single Republican enemy.

    That is worth noting.

She hasn’t got a single Republican enemy.

That’s about to change. See, she’s been nominated to be Attorney General for the Trump Administration.

Petty Never-Trumpers on the GOP side will now see her as an enemy. Even Republicans who respected her will now want to see her taken down and destroyed. Because Trump.

TDS exists on both sides of the aisle.

They can’t credibly claim she’s not qualified considering she was AG in the 3rd most populated state in the Union for eight years I also think it benefits Trump to have a female in such a high-ranking position. Solid pick.

Ghostrider in reply to TargaGTS. | November 21, 2024 at 8:00 pm

No, but the Democrats will attack her as a 2020 election denier, and since she was married and divorced twice, there must be several salacious tidbits to dig up on her in her divorce court documents, right? If not, the FBI will fabricate it and leak something to the media.

You are going to be disappointed by boring and smooth confirmation process for her because she actually is a good AG pick.

You might want to hang out with your pal Sundance at his Tree House. The pseudonymous Sundance, proprietor of the Conservative Treehouse site, is an incredibly frustrating author to read. He is a poor and clumsy writer. The basics of exposition seem to have escaped him–he is verbose. Clarity is a casualty of his style, and all too often, occasional translation of his prose is required.

That said, Lord Sundance hates her guts and has written attack articles about her in the past, including one yesterday.

Omigosh! She’s wearing a silver cross necklace. We can ‘t have that in this rally!

/sarc

I am not sure how I feel about her, I also am not sure she is as loyal to Trump as people are saying.

Remember she was the AG when the Trevon trial was going on… she let that travesty continue and let her minions do everything they could to make the process the punishment.

I was going to say, I don’t remember her covering herself in glory during the persecution of George Zimmerman.

My take on Bondi? An iron fist in a velvet glove. She’ll do fine.

As I recall it was Gov Rick Scott that appointed a special prosecutor for the Zimmerman case/trial. Bondi didn’t have anything to do with it as FL AG.

She has had some stumbles on the political end with some.ethics complaints related to fund raising and she got a scheduled execution postponed to attend a fundraiser. In the end though she’s a Trump loyalist and has big State AG experience and is a female which shouldn’t matter but does in DC perception. Probably gonna get confirmed if for no other reason than to keep Trump from nominating Mike Davis who is way more outspoken as a disruptor of DC DoJ establishment.

The biggest plus she has is her record.

She has been in major legal battles, run the major legal organization besides DOJ itself, and yet there is little if anything to attack her on.

Democrats will wail that she puts criminals behind bars.

Somebody should. I fully agree with you this is a wonderful pick by Trump.

CommoChief in reply to Danny. | November 22, 2024 at 7:56 am

I wouldn’t characterize this as a ‘wonderful’ pick. I prefer Mike Davis who is prepared to do to the d/prog what they did to GoP the moment they step out of line. IMO we must have a period of payback using the same tactics v d/prog b/c the d/prog are slow learners and pain is a very good teacher.

Mike Davis uses colorful language that I just interpret it as meaning “I am furious”.

I do not know that it would actually translate into anything different from Pam Bondi if he was the nominee instead.

He would be a great pick to, but language like “Democrats should be dragged through the streets to” (I may have the quote a bit off it is from memory) isn’t exactly something I would take that seriously as a statement of intent for how he would do things.

Mike Davis is somebody I would have without any hesitation supported I just don’t see him as particularly different because.

Solid pick. Smart, serious and substantive legal chops. Easy confirmation.

She is good-looking, which will not go over well with the catty Weyward Sisters of DC (Murkowski and Collins).

My name is Bondi, Pamela Bondi.

I’m not smiling anymore

WTF Trump

Was a big time Romney supporter. Advocated for Romneycare…wanted it in all 50 states. Fiercely supported Angela Corey’s efforts to put George Zimmerman in prison…and then later made Corey her campaign manager. Close friend of Benjamin Crump.

Indeed. Trump has run off the rails with this pick. Awful. Anyone even remotely connected with Benjamin Crump merits disqualification. Angela Corey should have been disbarred trying to frame an innocent man. As Dershowitz pointed out at the time, Corey left out exculpatory facts in her affidavit as the law required. This pick is so terrible my opinion of Trump has fallen.

Historically the real function of the AG is protect the president. The president usually picks a trusted insider, a crony, for AG. For example, JFK picked his brother as AG, a man who never tried a case. As explained in Chapter Six of Seymour Hersh’s book, “The Dark Side of Camelot,” the 1960 election was stolen.

First Sessions, then Barr, now Bondi. With all the dirt that must be cleaned out of the DOJ, Trump has blown it. Color me very disappointed. I’m going to urge my Senator to vote against her.

Danny in reply to oden. | November 22, 2024 at 2:32 am

Trump wants a qualified professional capable of reigning in and cleaning up the DOJ, pushing his legal agenda through by avoiding defeat in court, who does not have any Republican enemies which establishes she does work as part of a team.

She knows exactly how to operate and will do a good job.

Competence is important to being AG, being great at sound bites is not.

oden in reply to Danny. | November 22, 2024 at 10:05 am

Bodi lacks integrity. Competence becomes worthless without integrity. Without Bodi the fabricated case against Zimmerman could not happen. I fear Trump will one one day regret this decision.

BTW lack of Republican enemies is a bug, not a feature. No static RINOs is a very bad sign.

Danny in reply to oden. | November 22, 2024 at 1:47 pm

Giving all of the blame in that case to her (I think you have a good enough memory to know that is far from fair) that amounts to one bad decision in a highly distinguished legal career that included running one of the largest legal institutions in the country that makes at least hundreds of difficult charging decisions on any day ending in y.

Nobody is a perfect lawyer but as far as I could tell Bondi is about as solid a pick as you could get.

oden in reply to oden. | November 22, 2024 at 3:23 pm

Aside from that Mrs. Lincoln how was the play? The most serious transgression for a prosecutor: trying to convict a knowingly innocent person. No mere peccadillo. Of course she doesn’t get ALL the blame, so what? She gets enough to disqualify her from US AG for trying to send an innocent person to prison for perhaps his whole life. I do remember this case as I saw the whole trial right here on LI with Branca. I was recovering from foot surgery and the trial got my full attention from beginning to end. I remember thinking after hearing almost all the prosecution witnesses: “that was really a witness for the defense.” The case was obviously that weak. Of course she knew Zimmerman was innocent. Of course others were in on the frame up: NBC for doctoring the dispatcher tape, The media for using an old photo of Martin to make him seem like a little kid. Obama for his outrageous comments. A gang bang doesn’t make the primary rapist innocent.

The jury should have taken about 10 milliseconds to acquit, but this is America, the land of the gullible. Good thing Zimmerman has competent lawyers.

Clarification did you vote Romney or Obama?

    Further clarification

    Trump voted for……..

I don’t care that Romney turned petty and turned on his principles out of personal vandetta his agenda in 2012 was the correct one and Trump, and Pam Bondi can only be called correct to have backed him.

Trump is proving he is a great man, able to recognize and fix his mistakes and do a great job the second time when he makes mistakes.

Ghostrider in reply to gonzotx. | November 22, 2024 at 9:30 am

OMG! Are you serious? The election was 17 days ago, and you are nothing but doom and gloom over a DOJ AG pick redo. Why is that? Is it because Trump didn’t nominate the person you wanted? Trump has 18-20 months to get his agenda moving fast. There are five reasons why Trump nominated Bondi yesterday. And they are the GOP five senators who are not afraid to stand in Trump’s way and derail his mandate. They are the five led by McConnell, who were all a hard NO on Gaetz. The pick is not awful. She will do what Trump’s Chief of Staff tells her to do.

And no children

No skin in the game

Probably has cats, lots of them

I actually like Bondi but I know I’ll be in the minority here.

I dont’ want to fight with anyone. I just got home from a 12 day hospital stay where they removed some of my tongue lymph nodes and did a bunch of other stuff for cancer.

I hope all is well and that we can remember that we have more in common than we do not…even with people we vote against.

FYI Nurses saved my life (as did doctors so no one’s ego is bruised). My wife also saved my life…I could not be still standing without her and I’d definitely be voting Dem at a that point.

I’m sure she’s a tough AG, but if she’ll be going after Garland’s crowd, I was hoping for somebody who looked more like a bonebreaker. Attorney General Danny Trejo would have been appropriate.

Triggering intensifies with kamala voters who say bondi is too white.

This pick SUCKS! Bondi was behind the prosecution of George Zimmerman knowing full well that he was INNOCENT! She is the problem. If you want to root out lawfare you don’t nominate this POS. Did I mention how much I hate this pick. WTF DJT?!?

    healthguyfsu in reply to Mojo56. | November 22, 2024 at 1:45 pm

Bondi did her job back when parties weren’t obstructionist solely on naked political grounds. Corey was the actual queen of thorns there

Bondi will be the hottest U.S. AG of all time — that is all that matters.
