Washington State: Elderly Woman Barred For Life From YMCA Pool Over Man In Women’s Changing Room Threatens Legal Action

Washington State: Elderly Woman Barred For Life From YMCA Pool Over Man In Women’s Changing Room Threatens Legal Action

“To remedy the unlawful conduct against my client, I demand the following: (1) the City and the YMCA lift the ban against Jaman; (2) the City and the YMCA issue a formal apology to Jaman for their actions against her; and (3) the City and the YMCA pay Jaman the sum of $350,000 for her emotional distress arising out of the incident”

You may recall the contemptible treatment of  Julie Jaman, a then-80-year-old woman, by the Port Townsend’s Mountain View Pool. She was banned for life from the pool, where she had been swimming for 35 years without incident, because she objected to a male ogling girls and women in the women’s changing room.

Even the LGB (without the T) community later jumped to Julie’s defense after trans activists shouted down the poor woman and got #LetJulieSwim trending on Twitter (X).

As I noted at the time, the look on Julie’s face as she realizes she’s being shouted down is just heart-breaking.

We are now learning that Julie is threatening to sue unless the ban is lifted. She is also reportedly seeking an apology as well as $350,000 in damages for the distress caused her by this patently unfair, morally wrong, and potentially actionable conduct by the parties involved.

The Peninsula Daily News reports:

On Tuesday, the Virginia-based Center for American Liberty sent a letter to Port Townsend City Manager John Mauro, Kendra Rosenberg, an attorney with the law firm Kenyon Disend, and Olympic Peninsula YMCA CEO Wendy Bart alleging violations of state and federal laws and demanding restorative actions.

“To remedy the unlawful conduct against my client, I demand the following: (1) the City and the YMCA lift the ban against Jaman; (2) the City and the YMCA issue a formal apology to Jaman for their actions against her; and (3) the City and the YMCA pay Jaman the sum of $350,000 for her emotional distress arising out of the incident,” wrote Harmeet Dhillon, founder and CEO of CFAL.

The letter demands a response by Wednesday, March 27, at 5 p.m.

“If the City and YMCA fail to comply with this demand by that deadline, all options will be on the table, including the institution of legal proceedings in court,” the letter said.

. . . . CFAL Associate Counsel Eric Sell said Thursday the center had learned about Jaman’s case from their Washington state-based attorney.

“What the city did and what the Y did was pretty egregious,” Sell said. “In (city documents about the incident), they say that she had a history of documented code violations. As far as we can tell, that’s simply not true.”

Jaman said in 2022 she had never been notified of past code of conduct violations. She did not respond to request for comment Thursday.

In the letter, CFAL alleges the city and the YMCA violated Jaman’s First and 14th Amendment rights by banning her for using protected speech and denying her due process. The letter also alleges the city and the Y violated state law by publishing false and defamatory statements in print and online.

“This is government property,” Sell said of the Mountain View Pool, which is owned by the city and operated by the YMCA. “The constitution applies to government property.”

These fake Trannies are there to see women, not be a female. It’s disgusting and needs to stop.

They are also there to prove that they can. To flaunt the required public acceptance of their perversities,

In truth, I suspect that the majority of LGBTXZYWhatever issues are in fact rebellion against authority ones. Or perhaps simply daddy (or lack thereof) issues.

At what point does body mod just to get a peek become a bit much?

another lawsuit I would be happy to support.

I dated for about 10 tears before marrying. While on a date I stopped ate a restaurant, we went in and ordered dinner .

It turned out to be a bar catering to gays.

My point is that these Trans people can create their own specialty businesses, and either follow heterosexual conventions or stay out of those establishments,

Good, this madness has to stop. Unfortunately many courts have been wokified, especially the 9th Circuit including Washington State.

I see that Jefferson County YMCA has disabled the link to show who is in charge. While Pt Townsend is yet another progressive town, the area around it is definitely not. I wouldn’t want to be a YMCA director there now.

Women against women with penises. And I thought we were a tolerant nation.

    They aren’t women

Tionico in reply to LukeHandCool. | March 25, 2024 at 2:12 pm

they are NOT against them in principle. They ARE against them entering spaces designated for wha they are NOT in order to satisfy their perversions and proclivities that are not compatible with decency. They can all go join a nucist club and build their own pool and changing/shower rooms, where they can write theor own rules, or have none at all.

But when PUBLIC money fihds the pool, they must comply with public standards, and the laws.
Pervs wanna perv, let them go where the pervs hang it all out. But NOT on MY tax nickel.

Interesting. This suit should be a slam, dunk for at the very least a settlement in Julie Jaman’s favor. But Washington is not America, and neither the law nor the Constitution holds. I fear that a Leftist judge will see that she loses.

For the longest time…a penis is a weapon…so, shoot him…

    Next – silence / words are violence….

Follow me for further strong replies … 🙂

Men really like to see naked women.. Sometimes, naked women are receptive. Other times not so much. I don’t think that women have any obligation to put themselves on display for men..

“Men” who identify as women and assert that disingenuous ruse should be publicly identified.

The vile and evil Dhimmi-crats support genocidal Islamofascism and obnoxiously misogynistic and child/teen-abusing/exploiting/mutilating “trans” narcissim and totalitarianism. And, these despicable reprobates believe themselves to be allegedly standing on the “right side” of history.

Democrats: REPUBLICANS ARE WAGING A WAR AGAINST WOMEN!

Also Democrats: Im not a biologist so I can’t tell you what a woman is.

Also Democrats: Yeah nah, men can be women to you rwaaaaacist pig!

Breaking societal taboos re designation of bathrooms, showers, locker rooms and changing rooms into sex specific areas is foolish and potentially dangerous. Casting labels of bigotry, phobes, ‘ists and isms’ onto those who oppose immediately undoing cultural norms is likewise foolishly shortsighted bullying. There are way more people and voters who don’t want this than there are who demand the immediate up ending of norms and many who previously sat on the political sideline are becoming motivated by this attack on traditional culture.

Why the hell doesn’t she go to the YWCA? I had to quit my YMCA years ago because all the chicks who should have been going to the YWCA down the road preferred to doll themselves up and put on a show for the boys at the YMCA, hogging all the facilities.

    Sometimes a town isn’t big enough for a McDonald’s AND a KFC.

Dolce Far Niente in reply to E Howard Hunt. | March 25, 2024 at 12:10 pm

Because there is no YWCA in Port Townsend, you bumpkin. And even if there were, the woke would allow men in women’s facilities anyway.

Besides which, your personal issues have absolutely nothing to do with this.

E Howard Hunt in reply to Dolce Far Niente. | March 25, 2024 at 2:44 pm

So, I am free to enter any female club for which there is no close by male equivalent? I so weary of being pursued by sexy, young chicks. It’s exhausting.

Tionico in reply to E Howard Hunt. | March 25, 2024 at 2:21 pm

Port townsend is a small quaint little tourist trap wokesville town. There IS no YWCA pool in town. In fact, this town built this pool with public money, then contracted YMCA to manage/operate it.

What I do NOT comrehend is WHY the YMCA have come diwn agaist one of their long time faithful patrons. WHY do they have a dog in the fight WHO is on their board that is promiting this perversion? Perhaps an uprising in the local membership or at least the Board of YMCA needs to happen… the new directors then to back down on their public stance.

There IS NO QUESTION that the organisation need to change their name, dropping the word “christian” from it. Promoting such clearly anti-christian values as official policy belies the entire reason for the organisation. Admit it and change the name.. Stop lying.

There are three facilities that are managed by the Olympic Peninsula YMCA organization, in Port Townsend, Sequim and Port Angeles. There are no YWCAs. All three are branded as “Ys” now and accept males and females. With separate male and female locker rooms. I think this a nationwide trend. I was a member of the local Y in 2022 when this incident occurred in July. I received the following statement from the CEO about YMCA policies. Blame WA state for this crap. I have since dropped my membership.

I’m reaching out today as you may have read news stories around an incident at the Mountain View Pool, which we manage, as part of our YMCA of Jefferson County branch. This has caused many members to ask questions surrounding our policies and our Code of Conduct and I’d like to use this opportunity to clarify these.

Our Code of Conduct policy states: “At the Y, we strive to provide an atmosphere free from: discrimination, hatred, derogatory or unwelcome comments, intimidation, conduct or actions of sexual nature, or actions based on an individual’s sex, age, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or any other legal protected status.” Anyone violating this Code of Conduct may have their membership revoked.

The safety and well-being of children in our care always has been and always will be a top priority. We are committed to providing a safe environment for every person in our programs, most importantly children who are entrusted to our care. We have a series of measures in place to keep kids safe including background checks for staff; training for child abuse prevention, recognition and response; and ensuring that staff are not alone with a child at any point in time.

As a community-based nonprofit organization, we are committed to reflecting the diverse communities we serve, and to providing a safe, inclusive environment for all. Since 2016, when WAC 162-32-060 went into effect, we have operated in accordance with the law which gives people the right to access the locker rooms, changing rooms, and bathrooms that align with their gender identity.

I want to thank you for your support as these policies keep all Y members safe, and so that we can be an organization that is welcoming and inclusive for all.

Please contact me should you have any questions or concerns.

    Sincerely,
    Wendy Bart

Note: the dude in a woman’s bathing suit was escorting a group of young girls to use the bathroom. The complainant, Jaman was naked, taking a shower when she heard a male voice. She noted the guy was watching the young girls take off their bathing suits to use the toilets. For objecting to that she, Jaman, was permanently banned from the Y.

I’m sure your absence was a devastating loss for those preening ladies.

It isn’t just a matter of biological men ogling females in changing rooms, it’s that women are seriously weaker than males and need protection from predatory males. Period.

This is what “feminists” want? To have their female spaces taken over by gay males?

Dolce Far Niente in reply to smooth. | March 25, 2024 at 12:12 pm

So -called “feminists” are functionally Marxists, and their ideology trumps any concern for actual women.

And these men invading woman-only spaces are clearly hetero… gays would certainly be in the male spaces, where they could ogle to their heart’s content.

I would point out that like so many other large urban areas, the YMCA in the metropolitan Seattle area (and possibly the entire state) has removed ‘Christian’ from all of their public-facing promotional materials. While their tax forms still reflect ‘THE YOUNG MEN’S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF GREATER SEATTLE ,’ absolutely nothing else does. They market themselves a wholly secular, progressive humanist organization, as this episode clearly demonstrates.

Don’t threaten to sue. Show up with the suit. I love what Gibsons did to Oberlin. They filed a suit and suddenly the college was on the defensive and not really in a position to negotiate/threaten.

We have a tranny in our local library who uses the womens facilities and wears a mask to hide his beard. Being Portland, I would be kicked out of the library if I complained. As a straight white christian conservative male, I would be seen as the perpetrator regardless of the facts.

But he/she/it was in the “changing” room! 🙁

================================================

For a time in my life I lived at the YMCA. I thought of complaining in the Residents’ Meeting (but didn’t) that many of my fellow residents were not young, Christian, or men (in the sense of being manly).
