Indicted Sen. Bob Menendez Won’t File for the Democratic Primary
The *PRIMARY* won’t have Menendez. He’s still aiming for the general election.
New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez announced he won’t run for reelection.
There’s a catch! Menendez isn’t running for reelection in the Democratic primary!
Menendez had no chance of even winning the Democrat primary. Gee, could it be the indictments?
Menendez and his wife Nadine face 18 charges after federal prosecutors added two more charges to their indictment.
Menendez announced in a nine-minute video (emphasis mine):
“I will not file for the Democratic primary this June. I am hopeful that my exoneration will take place this summer and allow me to pursue my candidacy as an independent Democrat in the general election,” Menendez, who is facing bribery and obstruction of justice charges, said in a video posted online.
The news comes as Menendez had faced calls to resign, including from a number of his Senate Democratic colleagues, as a result of the charges.
Menendez was up for reelection this year and would have faced a highly competitive Democratic primary had he entered the race. Tammy Murphy, the wife of New Jersey Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy and the state’s first lady, is running. Rep. Andy Kim of New Jersey is also running and has been endorsed by Sen. John Fetterman of neighboring Pennsylvania, who has been the most vocal Senate Democrat calling for Menendez to resign.
The Southern District of New York brought charges against Menendez and Nadine in September for allegedly accepting “hundreds of thousands of dollars of bribes” to protect three New Jersey businessmen and work on behalf of Egypt.
The feds allege the Menendezes “accepted cash, gold, payments toward a home mortgage, compensation for a low or-no-show job, a luxury vehicle, and other things of value.”
Menendez has repeatedly stated that he won’t resign over the charges.

Again, one of the bribes was a “used car.” That says it all. He’s so low he could walk under a snake wearing a top hat.
The allegations involving this weasel go back quite a while. See https://whyy.org/articles/rob-tornoe-menendez/
If it were a GOP/DEM thing then Menendez wouldn’t be the only one who has had these clouds following him around. Of course without term limits and the way politicians are wooed and worshiped, there are always going to be those susceptible to influence and corruption. NJ (and the surrounding area) is a cesspool of corruption.
Why isn’t this corrupt-o-crat in prison already? See: Biden Crime Family
What is this “independent Democrat” status he wants to run under?
More likely he wants to be able to launder cash by taking “campaign donations”.
But if it gets rid of him and puts a Republican in that seat it’s OK by me.
It could definitely be about campaign cash. But, it could also be about trying to leverage the best deal possible by saying to the Democrats: Get me a sweet deal or I’m going to hand this seat to a Republican for the next 6-years.
Complete crook, but Peter Navarro sits in jail. We are doomed.
this guy still gets classified briefings
I would hope they would lock his lame a$$ up for about 20 years but he will probably never see the inside of a prison
Correct. Fetterman, of all people, introduced a resolution that would have prohibited Mendendez from receiving classified materials. He couldn’t even get a floor vote on it….because Schumer. So, while Republicans are expelling their own members under indictment, Democrats won’t even stop their members who were indicted for illegal connections to FOREIGN NATIONALS from seeing our nation’s most sensitive secrets.
the reason Mendendez is confident is , I think, the charges are filed in Manhattan
after the Sussman verdict in DC, any dim shouldn’t worry about legal troubles in NYC/DC
He did his penance the last time he was in trouble. I guess those Clinton COnnections no longer work.
He’s a Dollar Tree Democrat Crook! A used car? Are you kidding me? L(SO)BJ (who my family knew personally-and that’s how my granddad referred to him!) once quipped something to the effect that if you could be bribed with a little money, you weren’t worth bribing at all. I have no idea if that is his real quote or not, but it sure sounds like the way my granddad always described him.
