Biden EPA Issues Rules That Will Push Heavy-Duty Vehicles Toward Electric

Biden EPA Issues Rules That Will Push Heavy-Duty Vehicles Toward Electric

These people genuinely live on Fantasy Island.

They are doing all they can to force electric vehicles on us. The hybrid vehicles weren’t enough.

The EPA’s “national greenhouse gas pollution standards for heavy-duty vehicles, such as freight trucks and buses,” will push them to become an electric vehicle fleet.

The agency started the nonsense a year ago.

The rules’ PDF is 1,155 pages long. No one has time to read this drivel. Of course, that’s done on purpose because they can slip in a bunch of crap.

You guys. They genuinely live on FANTASY ISLAND.

The Biden administration wants the changeover to hit model years 2027 through 2032:

The standards will avoid 1 billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions and provide $13 billion in annualized net benefits to society related to public health, the climate, and savings for truck owners and operators. The final standards will also reduce dangerous air pollution, especially for the 72 million people in the United States who live near truck freight routes, bear the burden of higher levels of pollution, and are more likely to be people of color or come from low-income households.

The “Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards for Heavy-Duty Vehicles – Phase 3” standards will provide greater certainty for industry, while catalyzing private investment, supporting U.S. manufacturing jobs in advanced vehicle technologies, and invigorating and strengthening the U.S. economy. Over the next decade, these final standards, paired with President Biden’s historic Investing in America agenda and investments in U.S. manufacturing, will set the U.S. heavy-duty sector on a trajectory for sustained growth.

The manufacturers have to “deploy clean heavy-duty vehicle technologies.”

Is anyone else tired of the word clean? I AM.

I just traveled to Santa Fe and Zion National Park from Oklahoma City. That’s a 14-hour drive. We saw a ton of heavy-duty vehicles on I-40 alone!

Gas stations? The attendants told heavy-duty vehicle owners to move if they weren’t fueling because they didn’t have enough pumps for them.

WHERE is the infrastructure?! America doesn’t have enough charging stations for tiny electric vehicles!

Yes, let’s slow down the supply chain even more.

What a bunch of idiotic non-realistic morons. COME ON.

It gets worse. The EPA claims that these “greenhouse gas emissions are the primary driver of climate change and its impacts, including more severe heat waves, drought, sea level rise, extreme climate and weather events, coastal flooding, and catastrophic wildfires.”

They forgot to add CATS AND DOGS LIVING TOGETHER. Mass hysteria!

No, the primary driver of climate change is Mother Nature. The climate is always changing. The climate has changed consistently since the beginning of time.

At least the Hip Hop Caucus is happy. Yes, we have a Hip Hop Caucus.

“Hip Hop Caucus is encouraged by EPA’s new federal emissions standards for trucks, which will reduce the harmful air pollution that disproportionately affects Black, Brown, Indigenous and low-income communities near ports, roadways and highways,” said Russell Armstrong, Senior Director of Campaigns and Advocacy at the Hip Hop Caucus. “This is a meaningful step in the right direction. We will continue to work with EPA to make sure that clean vehicles are accessible and affordable for all.”

Fed Ex and UPS can’t deliver on time now.

What is it about leftist ideology that makes people believe they can make pigs fly simply by forbidding them from walking?

They aren’t dumb and they know it can’t work. Stop thinking this is just an incompetent mistake and realize we are ruled by people that want our collapse.

But Trump said “bloodbath” and other untoward things and you got the vapors. Kinda hard to form a resistance to the communists when conservatives (LOL) keep that nose in the air.

I agree that these climate extremists are absolutely aware their ‘solutions’ will not work. I honestly don’t think they understand what the true impact on coastal blue cities and States will be when trucks can’t deliver food, fuel and all the other various things those cities do not produce. The second and third order impacts gonna be a hoot to observe from a distance, up close not so much fun at all.

When your goal is for the 1% to get rid of 90% of the remainder, things like food deliveries aren’t terribly important.

Sure that’s true but those cute little 5 ft tall wrought iron fences around gated communities and high rise apartments with a doorman won’t stop a hungry mob of starving ‘peasants’.

Heavy duty vehicles, aka, BMIs…Barely makin’ it.

hasten your own extinction at the hands of millions of hungry, feral humans…just saying.

The people running our government are delusional fantasists. In the almost 3-years that have passed since Biden signed that gigantic green energy bill with billions earmarked to build-out our vehicle-charging infrastructure, no more than FOUR TOTAL charging stations have been built. FOUR.

The Church of Global Warming is the official religion of this administration

The Obama / biden/ harris administration has more than one official religion

    Church of pro Iranian proxies
    Church of anti Israel
    Church of transgender
    Church of racism
Church of the government industrial complex
    Church of censorship
    Church of a woke

People of color to be the most affected by the supply chain collapse

Americans must choose between Civilization—or its Destroyers

As someone with over 30yrs in the seat let me chime in on this fantasy.

Electric trucks cost 3x that of a standard Semi. This would push small to medium carriers out of business.

Electric trucks have an average range of 300 miles and this is in good weather. Then they have to stop and charge which takes a few hours to continue driving. This would force companies to at least double their fleet size to move the same freight and hire 50% more drivers to fill them due to Hour Of Service regulations. All this at a time of a severe driver shortage. This would cause freight rates to increase leading to inflation of everything people buy. Everything.

Fleets in cold weather climates would have to add an unknown number of trucks due to the reduced range in cold weather. This would cause massive shipping disruptions and delays. Look for shortages of everything that would make the COVID shortages pale in comparison.

This increased size in fleets would need to park somewhere. There is no room in the majority of terminals to have dozens of trucks sitting around charging.

Owner Operator’s who comprise 20% of the total trucks park mostly at home. They do not have the money to install truck chargers so this will force most out of business. See driver shortage above.

There is no infrastructure on the road to charge trucks. Where is this supposed to happen? Truck stops do not make much of a profit operating on a razor thin margin. Who thinks they are going to spend millions on charging stations and have trucks sitting around taking all the parking spots? If a car charging station is full it’s an inconvenience, if a trucking one is full a driver will probably run out of driving time waiting to then charging. See Federal Hour of Service Rules.

Where is the grid and power to handle this fantasy? Wife works for a company that wants to move, against all reason, to electric trucks. Local power supplier told them not in a million years could the grid not only handle that but the power was simply not available.

Need I go on because I can. This is the stupidest thing to come out of the WH yet. Brandon has nothing to do with it, it’s the radical staff who is running the show doing this nonsense

Don’t worry about a driver shortage – self- driving semis will come to the rescue….

diver64 in reply to nordic prince. | March 30, 2024 at 5:29 am

LOL..another fantasy people are pushing. Maybe long haul on designated lanes from a parking area, onto an interstate then off the ramp to another much like I90 in NY but that is about it. That type of transportation is not the majority of trucking. Self driving will never negotiate 2 lane roads, take into account traffic and weather or charge itself when it runs out of energy.

I remember a commercial when I was in Middle School. Guy was asking for a job as a driver, brought his CDL and paperwork and the Manager points to a map and says ‘You may be able to drive from here to there’ then points at a Truck w/trailer in a crowded parking lot and across to a single open space at a loading dock and says ‘but can you drive from there to there’. That always stuck with me.

          diver64 in reply to CommoChief. | March 30, 2024 at 7:32 pm

Lived that yesterday. 1400 delivery to a small grocery store in a residential area. Drove down the street with an OTR tractor and 53ft trailer between parked cars. Managed to get into the parking lot then pulled up, backed around a light pole, jack knifed around an Audi SUV and cut back around the wall and store into the only dock. Sucked big time. Let’s see an autonomous truck get that done.

CommoChief in reply to CommoChief. | March 31, 2024 at 8:04 am

This whole robot/computer driver for commercial shipping seems not only dumb but redundant… put in on a train and you get a similar result though not the critical ‘last mile’.

I recommend “Climate: The Movie”, free, Google it, 80 minutes. It covers everything very well, including the science in easy to understand terms. Bottom line – it is all about money, power and control. A warmer climate and more CO2 are irrelevant issues. The Earth had vastly more of both in the past – no polar ice at all and 10X the level of CO2. Lush greenery in the Arctic for millions of years is the only way to get he oil that is found there.

    Dimsdale in reply to jb4. | March 29, 2024 at 9:58 pm

The last interglacial, about 125K years ago (125K YBS; years before SUVs), sea levels were 15-18 feet higher than today’s.

    Must of been aliens.

The “success” of the Ford Lightning should be warning enough; even with a small load, the range dropped precipitously.

Imagine the costs involved with longer deliveries caused by charging times and the initial costs of upgrading/replacing all of our current vehicles.

    diver64 in reply to Dimsdale. | March 30, 2024 at 5:32 am

I watched a youtube of a man doing a real world test of a brand new Lightning. He liked the truck’s looks, handling etc and then hooked a trailer with a car onto it to take it to a garage giving it a work out. He watched the estimated range on the readout drop within a short time to 95 miles or so and ended up turning around and going home because he couldn’t make the round trip.

If only there were some way for our side to ensure that beginning today, all deliveries into DC were performed only by EV trucks.

These idiots will destroy the economy over and over.

Nice “Ghostbusters” reference, Mary.

These Dhimmi-crat apparatchiks and their dishonestly contrived and corrosive “green” agenda, are utterly contemptible. Their contrived imposition of a transparently fallacious gloss of alleged racism to the entire agenda, is equally contemptible.

Pigs may, or may not, be able to fly. It depends on whether Hunter’s cut is large enough. He’ll have to run it by the Big Guy over drinks at Camp David.

A 2024 version of one of Stalin’s Five Year Plans. They worked out so well!

guyjones in reply to MAJack. | March 30, 2024 at 1:51 pm

In addition to taking inspiration from Stalin’s incalculably destructive collectivization schemes (destructive in monetary terms, and, in human lives), we can fairly state that the vile Dhimmi-crat apparatchiks are also attempting to copy Chairman Mao’s equally destructive planning schemes, with a “Great Leap Backward.”

I observed a Tesla Cybertruck on the road today, coming in the opposite direction in oncoming traffic in my small suburban city.

What a load. Looks like a design by Frank Gehry, all lopsided, angles, and sharp forms. Butt ugly.
