Report: Ronna McDaniel Stepping Down as RNC Chairwoman After South Carolina Primary

Sources claim Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel will resign after the South Carolina primary on February 24 (my birthday!!).

Take this all with a grain of salt because it comes from The New York Times:

The chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, Ronna McDaniel, has told former President Donald J. Trump she is planning to step down shortly after the South Carolina primary on Feb. 24, according to two people familiar with the plans.Mr. Trump is then likely to promote the chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party, Michael Whatley, as her replacement, according to several people familiar with the discussions. Under the arcana of the committee’s rules, however, Mr. Trump cannot simply install someone, and a new election must take place.

McDaniel completely blew it for the Republicans in 2020 and 2022. But Trump mostly stayed behind her. He picked her to run the GOP in 2017.

Well, on Monday, Trump changed his tune:

In a sit-down interview with the right-wing news network Newsmax, Mr. Trump was asked whether Ms. McDaniel, whom he first chose to lead the party in 2017, should step aside given the party’s lackluster fund-raising and electoral results in recent years.“Well, I think she knows that,” Mr. Trump answered. “I think she understands that.”A spokeswoman for the committee did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday. But Ms. McDaniel has let it be known that she would step aside if the Republican nominee preferred.

Trump also hinted at the change on Truth Social after he had dinner with McDaniel on Monday.
