GOP Primary: Nikki Haley Loses Her Home State To Donald Trump By Double Digits

GOP Primary: Nikki Haley Loses Her Home State To Donald Trump By Double Digits

To pretty much no one’s surprise, Trump wiped the floor with #NeverNikki in her home state.

Despite 0% of the vote being tallied and within minutes of the polls closing, most of the major networks projected the GOP presidential primary in South Carolina a huge (yuge?) win for Donald Trump.

South Carolina, of course, is former governor and former UN ambassador Nikki Haley’s home state, so this is a crushing blow to her campaign.

Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) was clearly quite thrilled by the results. Another humiliation for Haley.

Prior to the primary, Trump received an unexpected endorsement (of sorts) from Gruesome Newsom.

It looked like there may have been shenanigans in some parts of the state, but it (so far) has not affected the results.

Interesting tidbit:

The Washington Post reports slightly different numbers, but the fact that Haley outspent Trump by such huge numbers and still lost by double digits has to have Haley (and Biden) donors worried.

Haley’s campaign and allied super PAC outspent Trump’s campaign in the state by about $15 million to $1 million, according to media tracking data from AdImpact.

Obviously numbers are still rolling in, so we will update this post with final figures when they become available, but it looks like the expected blow out, with Fox News reporting Trump’s 63.5% to Haley’s 35.5% as of this writing.

Just waiting for Trikki Nkki to come out and declares victory so I can get on with my evening.

Bless her vapid little heart. Love to see the HUD settlement sheets for new mansion. Quite prosperous for an unemployed candidate.

    Wonder who paid her way.

      Her Democrat voters.

Yep. South Carolina is an open primary State. If I had my way the GoP in every State would close Primaries to everyone except voters who were registered GoP voters as of Dec 31 the year prior to the primary.

The same way politicians from either party get it: insider trading, suitcases full of cash, book deals with massive advances but no book ever really expected…

    Ghostrider in reply to thad_the_man. | February 25, 2024 at 3:03 am

Why is Haley staying in the race? Who is influencing her to remain in the race? As many others have noted, the only reason Haley would continue at this point is if her UniParty NeverTeump RINO handlers have insider information that leads them to believe one or more of Trump’s criminal cases will be rigged against him.

Otherwise, every form of lawfare being waged against him has failed to keep him from returning to the White House even as they try to drain his bank accounts.

It’s time for Haley to either drop out or acknowledge she’s working against America’s best interests.

Haley will endorse trump, and bring trump votes, in return for promise of cabinet appointment in trump admin. Trump can then replace haley after 1-2 years, and she disappears. Haley isn’t liz cheny version 2.0.

Subotai Bahadur in reply to Ghostrider. | February 25, 2024 at 4:29 pm

Haley is staying in the race because her mission is to help the Left and their GOPe allies keep the mass of the conservative movement from removing them and working to save the country. She begged openly for Democrat votes in the primary to choose the Republican candidate. What did she promise the Left behind the scenes, and what did they promise?

Mention was made of alienating RINO voters. Leaving out the fact that RINO voters by their nature will vote for what the Left wants much of the time; there is the literal fact that openly siding with the RINO’s and other enemies of the country openly alienates the party base. Which to the GOPe is a plus and not a minus.

Haley is just another Deep Sewer puppet, a younger version of Biden.

Apparently she is content to follow the Lizzy Cheney route to political oblivion. Republicans won’t touch her and the Dems will discard as usual. Hope the money is worth it

I don’t understand the haley bashing. She’s going to run out of gas soon and not finish. But she broadens the party and could be useful for cabinet appointment.

Agree – it’s gotten more nasty since NH – let’s not alienate even RINO voters – we need every single one.

gonzotx in reply to jakebizlaw. | February 24, 2024 at 8:41 pm

Please, half of her votes are from democrats, it’s open primary only 4% registered Dems voted for Biden last month to go and vote for the Indian.

She is openly recruiting Democrats and cohorting with them

She’s OK with replacement theory, as long as it’s done legally

People like gonzo will also be the first to cry rigged when they don’t get the results they want.

You don’t win elections by alienating voters that vote pretty close to you on most issues.

Haley is the rino establishment candidate in the race. She always has been, despite some falsely trying to put that label on DeSantis.

The purpose of the Haley campaign is to shape a narrative of turmoil within the GoP base. When d/prog and Indy voters can cast a ballot to muddy the waters in an open GoP primary they will often do so.

While I absolutely agree that deliberately PO potential voters is a very foolish idea for a candidate many of these folks who pulled the lever for Haley ain’t GoP voters nor will they vote for the GoP nominee in the fall.

          Gonzo,

I”m not a fan of Trump’s style and have never been. I’ve voted for him twice. I am between holding my nose and voting for him again and not voting at all because I’ll never vote for Biden. But Biden doesn’t need my vote…he only needs independents and your tribe of crazies are what drives them away in droves. Some self-awareness and perspective of the national landscape would be a refreshing change of pace from your group once in a while.

healthguyfsu in reply to healthguyfsu. | February 25, 2024 at 4:32 pm

          Commo,

This is not about Haley and never has been. There are voters in her bloc that would vote alongside the Trump cultists (I consider you not one of those). Do you think it’s better to mock those people or find common ground?

” Do you think it’s better to mock those people or find common ground?”

Mock the Dems that Haley has been courting and Haley? Absolutely. it’s better to mock them.

No one was mocking anyone else.

Just the candidate, and the leftists she’s getting votes from.

They wouldn’t be voting for her or Trump or any Republican in the general, so who cares how they feel?

          You?

Then you might want to seriously question your priorities.

What strange world is this? I agree with Aza here. #NeverNikki is more toxic to our nation than an out and proud un- and profoundly anti-American destroyer of our national identity, principles, and morals like Gavin Newsom (or Bernie, et al.) BECAUSE she is fake, phony, stealth. I cannot abide her, loathe her from the top of my head to the tips of my toes. So, no, there is no room to barter with her, no place for her, no common ground. She is a finger-to-the-wind lying liar who lies. All the time. With abandon.

Any GOP candidate or office-holder who believes — as Haley has indicated she does — that President Trump is the main problem in American society, as contrasted with Biden’s corruption, and, the Dhimmi-crats’ myriad acts of brazen, lawless and totalitarian electoral sabotage/lawlessness/”dirty tricks” (e.g., Crossfire Hurricane Obama/Brennan/Clinton sabotage op); FBI/CIA election interference; FBI corruption and obstruction of the Biden crime family corruption investigation; Big Tech censorship collusion with FBI, NIH, State Department; etc., etc.) doesn’t comprehend where the actual threats to American democracy are coming from, and, is unfit to hold office and wield political power — end of story.

Why? Well one could point out that her policies echo the worst aspects of repub. establishment failures. But I think overall people hold her in contempt for the way she’s relying on the republic ending democrat lawfare. I think she’s beneath contempt.

The woman has revealed herself to be bat-sh!t insane, completely decoupled from reality, and a world-class incompetent narcissist. I wouldn’t put her in charge of a Dairy Queen, let alone a cabinet position.

I would wager a guess the two main counties Nikki is getting votes in, Richland and Charleston, are where the Dems are casting their votes for her

Give it up Nikki

To be fair, the networks were actually slow. The rest of us projected he would win big months ago.

There is an excellent chance that Haley will keep campaigning until the Convention, and maybe even after. Campaigning to help the Democrat win [be it Biden or whoever the Politburo substitutes for him].

If so, then it’s time for people to start laughing at her. Loudly and continuously. Until she STFU and goes away.
Not even your mother loves you anymore, Nikki.

Perhpas Nikki is looking to be the VP for the Dem that is substituted for Biden. She appears to agree with the centrist Dems on many issues.

And, bear in mind that both New Hampshire and South Carolina feature “open” primaries, allowing Dhimmi-crats to participate. Meaning that Haley received the benefit of innumerable Dhimmi-crat voters looking to give President Trump a black eye (none of whom would ever vote for a GOP presidential candidate in the general election, anyway) — and, she still lost.

It also absolutely refuses to condemn pedophilia or cannibalism.

Haley is in for one reason – money.

She’s getting millions from Democrats as their last hurrah to hurt Trump, and the second she gives up that money dries up.

She’s not even pretending to be trying to win votes anymore, she’s just attacking Trump.

She’s just another democrat running under the repub label.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | February 24, 2024 at 10:24 pm

Trump crushes Nikki Haley by over 30% in her own state … and something like 90% of Haley’s votes were from Democrats.

Nikki Haley is really an awful POS. And the crap that she’s saying in trying to win this race (that she never had any chance of winning) … It’s pathetic and stupid.

Just like Christie, Hutchison, and the others, she’s not trying to win. Absolutely NOTHING that she’s doing makes you believe that she’s actually attempting to win.

She’s just taking Democrat money to attack Trump.

wendybar in reply to Olinser. | February 25, 2024 at 4:36 am

She wants to hand the win to the progressives. She is Uniparty who will do anything to make sure Trump loses and the Uniparty is in for life.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair in reply to ThePrimordialOrderedPair. | February 25, 2024 at 2:08 am

It ended up only being 20% … and Haley appeared to be ecstatic over the margin. I thought she was going to do a Dean-Scream in her Anti-Victory Speech. She pretended that dems weren’t involved.

She really is an awful person. Every time she opens her mouth something even more stupid comes out. First it was the crap about “Chaos follows Trump around” and now it’s “America doesn’t want a coronation”. Not even a 5 year old would buy that junk. America doesn’t want a king – that’s for sure – but America also doesn’t want Nikki Haley. She trashes America and our system in her attempted takedowns of Trump. Not a winning strategy, there …

And she is just annoying as all get-out, too.

I know there is a rush to be first in reporting the news but I wish the Corporate Press would at least wait until, maybe, half the votes are counted before declaring a winner even if we know who is going to win.

In this case only SC was voting so calling the race once the polls closed was IMO ok. The reason is that doing so had no impact on any other voter decisions that day b/c there were no other elections held that day.

When we get to a multi State primary day or the general election then IMO, the media should at minimum wait until polls close, all precincts in that State who had an extension of time are done and if it is a ‘swing’ or must have for a particular candidate then wait until 70% of the vote is counted/reported to be extra careful not to potentially influence voters in other States/time zones where polls haven’t yet closed.

Haley could be right: The next president could easily be female. Unfortunately, it could easily be Kamala. If Trump loses in 2024 I hope the only Trumpers will remember Trump’s negative ratings and that Trump just barely beat Hillary in 2016, gave up ground in 2018, lost in 2020 and was disastrous in 2022 with his special Trump picks. The last of these traumas occurred in a year in which the country already witnessed the disasters that the Biden administration was imparting upon the American public. (How do you lose Georgia? How do you lose PA that year?).

I much prefer a Haley victory to a Trump loss. Some of you would prefer a Trump loss so that you can spend the next four years writing lengthy screeds about how the election was fixed.

thalesofmiletus in reply to Stuytown. | February 25, 2024 at 9:44 am

    a Haley victory

Out of curiosity, what color is the sky on your planet?

Polls show her defeating Biden by a much larger margin than Trump. This is not a secret.

The election ain’t being held today with all those glowing lame-stream puff pieces propping-up her image. That all goes away after the conventions, and the GOP candidate becomes Satan-on-Earth.

Trump is winning despite the full-court-press against him since 2016.

Team Nikki has her opponent right where they want them!

must be nice living lavishly off campaign donations

First, it’s the Republican primary so all that should really matter is who won Republican voters. That was Trump, by 50-points, 75-24. One other thing that should be highlighted is Trump’s margin of victory with no-college degree voters was even larger than his margin of Republican voters.

While I have my problems with Trump (having mostly to do with his inability to stay on-message more than anything else), what has been clear from this primary and the 2016 primary is Trump expands the GOP tent in a way no other GOP candidate has done since Reagan. For some context, in 1984 Reagan only won 30% of the Jewish vote. There’s polling today that indicates Trump may win more than 50% of the Jewish vote IN NEW YORK. He will almost certainly do better with black and LATINO voters than any GOP nominee since the 1960s.

The reason Trump won this primary is because he has the ability to connect with regular people in way no other candidate can. The candidates who lost would serve themselves well if they looked closely at this issue and their own messaging and improve where they can for 2028.

GOP lost the majority of the population both direct Trump runs, and lost 2018, 2022, and 2023 as well.

Non-college educated white voters have been turning to the GOP since the election of George W Bush and the switch by those voters to GOP has been pretty steady since then.

Last time the GOP won a majority of voters in a presidential election was 2004 (so before millions of 2024 voters existed). Don’t delude yourself about where our side is today. It needs to start using the levers of government to influence institutions before another generation of voters is irreversibly lost to leftist indoctrination.

TargaGTS in reply to Danny. | February 25, 2024 at 3:18 pm

Do you realize that in 2016, ALL of Clinton’s popular vote advantage came from California? That’s right. If California would have slid into the Pacific ocean the day before the Election, Trump would have won the popular vote…by more than 500K votes. California is so large and lopsided – ideologically – it really skews national polls in an unprecedented way.

With respect to the popular vote in 2020, I don’t think anyone really believes that 81-million people voted for Biden. It’s impossible to say what the popular vote really was. There’s a reason most European countries don’t allow mail-in voting and what happened in 2020 is that reason.

Halely is footnote to this election cycle. She’s not going to throw the election to biden. She’s promoting herself, because she has nothing else to do right now with her career. Maybe she parleys this into part time gig as guest commentator on fox?

I don’t mind Nikki staying in.
Generates interest in the primary, giving Trump more free publicity.
Nikki is burning up Democrat and NeverTrumpers’ money, so less money available to them in the general.

Trump just needs to focus on China Joe* and his disastrous policies.

“Trump just needs to focus on China Joe* and his disastrous policies.”

I think Trump should focus on the disastrous policies of the entire D party for now, He can concentrate on Traitor Joe when we’re sure he’s actually the D nominee – which seems a bit less likely every day…

    Danny in reply to rbj1. | February 25, 2024 at 11:37 am

No she should get out of the race immediately because what you did not factor in was Trump’s more toxic supporters, who believe strongly in insulting other Republicans and encouraging them not to vote (and in cases of some of the squishier ones might succeed).

Nikki Haley voters (so around a third of the primary voters) are not going to be smiling seeing that they are being insulted, and it is beyond Trump’s control the people I sometimes call his cultists aren’t Trump cultists they are just morons who live to insult people.

We need everyone, this is going to be a close election and we need all the help we could get from all the voters we could get.

    Lets view Trump electoral history

    1. 2016-Lost the popular vote to HILLARY CLINTON (yes the Hillary Clinton who is hated everywhere) and barely won the electoral college by barely winning a set of swing states Hillary did not think was in play

    2. 2018-Blue Wave

    3. 2020-Biden win

4.2022-Easy Red Wave thwarted in a humiliation

2023-Further Democrat wins in what for our side was very easily winnable races

She needs to get out, her supporters are being routinely insulted and which could depress their willingness to vote for Trump when this ends, and we need every voter we could get for the general (just look at electoral history of Trump related elections if you doubt that).

wendybar in reply to Danny. | February 25, 2024 at 12:10 pm

Toxic, like calling other people voting Republican a cult?? THAT should get her the votes you think she deserves./. SNARK!!! It’s people like you who are turning off any potential voters the RINOS may have, because really, at this point…what’s the difference??? Both sides hate us. Trump 2024.

Danny in reply to wendybar. | February 25, 2024 at 1:58 pm

I was going to counter insult you for claiming I claimed voting Republican makes you part of a cult but I will give benefit of the doubt and pretend there is some form of chance you are in contact with other people not in your echo chamber (I highly doubt that however judging by what you just said, I am not ignoring a direct insult based on YOUR LIES towards me again).

        1. I don’t give a dam what they are saying I give a dam that their votes are being alienated by morons insulting them. We NEED them. Go over the electoral history.

        2. Did I mention we need them?

Lets go over the electoral history

2016-Clobbered in the popular vote by millions of people. We barely won by the fact that 3 swing states Hillary didn’t think were in play BARELY went our way (and haven’t voted Republican since with the exception of Ron Johnson winning re-election 2022).

        2020-Lost

        2022-Red Wave thwarted

        2023-Easily winnable races lost

Stop pretending we don’t need more voters. A lot of people hate Trump but love his policies please stop making voting Trump harder for them.

Furthermore I am well aware you accused me of claiming voting Republican makes you part of a cult. That does in fact make you a liar because I never said that.

YOU are a liar and YOU are an asshole. Changed my mind your an asshole and a liar.

She thinks she’s cute and she ain’t. What gall to call herself Nikki.

Haley is back bencher second string going for her 10 minutes of free publicity, which is already fading. She’s not trojan horse for Dems, she doesn’t want biden to win.

And oh, by the way, 40% of her primary voters voted for Biden, and plan to do so again.

Do the math to remove that 40% of her total, and among actual Republicans and Independents, she lost 28%-72%.

And that’s she massively outspent Trump in SC, with Haley spending ~$16.5 million and Trump spending ~$1.5 million.

Nikki should hire Little Greta as her campaign manager.
