The Media Can No Longer Persuade People to be Afraid of Covid

Currently, the press is promoting some scare stories about two COVID variants.

The first one is JN.1, and the media concern trolls are focused on the rapid spread of the virus.

Even though it appeared only in September, the variant known as JN.1, a descendant of omicron, is rapidly spreading, representing between 39% to half of the cases, according to pre-holiday stats from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Lab data indicates that the updated vaccines, as well as existing COVID rapid tests and medical treatments, are effective with this latest iteration. More good news is that it “does not appear to pose additional risks to public health beyond that of other recent variants,” according to the CDC. Even so, new COVID hospitalizations — 34,798 for the week that ended Dec. 30 — are trending upward, although rates are still substantially lower than last December’s tally. It’s early in the season, though. Levels of virus in wastewater — one indicator of how infections are spreading — are “very high,” exceeding the levels seen this time last year.

The other one is BA.2.86 — or ‘Pirola,’ which is a descendant of 2022’s Omicron variant and is supposed to be more “deadly” than the previous variants as it targets the lower lungs.

A new study by The Ohio State University found that BA.2.86 can infect cells in the lower lung and can enter cell membranes more efficiently than other versions of Omicron.

Dr Shan-Lu Liu, senior author of the study and professor of virology professor at The Ohio State University, said the findings were ‘worrisome.’

‘The concern is whether or not this variant, as well as its descendants, including JN.1, will have an increased tendency to infect human lung epithelial cells similar to the parental virus that launched the pandemic in 2020,’ he said.

In lab tests, the researchers found that BA.2.86 was more efficient at infecting humans in the lower lung.

Upper respiratory infections impact the throat and sinuses, including colds and sore throats.

Lower respiratory infections, however, typically last longer and are more intense as they affect the airways and lungs.

Now that interest in the vaccines has completely waned, the Big Pharma arm of the mainstream media is pulling out microbiologists as experts to push for more funding for more research…paid by our tax dollars.

Still, there has been exciting new data on oral, inhaled vaccines that achieve high levels of mucosal immunity and protection against infections, which would be variant proof. The U.S. has invested hundreds of millions of dollars to rev up clinical trials for two different nasal vaccines with promising early clinical trial data, and for improved, variant-proof shots with better protection and durability. But most of these efforts started only recently and are not getting urgent priority for completion during 2024, nothing like what we saw with Operation Warp Speed in 2020.

It’s crickets from the White House on COVID now, with no messaging on getting the updated booster or masking. The Biden administration has done far too little to accelerate research on effective treatments for long COVID.

This passivity reinforces the illusion that the pandemic is behind us when it’s actually raging. And this season will be followed by a more quiescent period, which will, once again, lull us into thinking the pandemic is over. But there is no getting over it until we recognize reality and double down on the research that will allow us to block infections and virus spread, and achieve lasting, variant-proof immunity.

The pandemic is over. The disease is now endemic and will come in wave after wave…exactly as I predicted.

Perhaps the most interesting part about the above opinion is that the White House itself is done with COVID-19. I would imagine the polling numbers on policies that continue pandemic mania are sickly.

And the media is still pushing the vaccines.

Many people don’t realize that shots that protect against the newest variants are available, or that they should be vaccinated even if they are not at high risk, said Gigi Gronvall, a biosecurity expert at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security.

Even if the Covid vaccine does not prevent infection, it can shorten the duration and severity of illness, and minimize the risk of long-term symptoms, including brain fog, fatigue, movement problems and dizziness — collectively known as long Covid.

“I’m sure also there are plenty of people who are actively hostile to the idea, but most of the people I encounter, they just don’t even know about it,” Dr. Gronvall said.

While COVID-19 vaccination should remain a personal choice, based on personal risks, building up the immune system with diet, exercise, and sunshine seems the most sensible approach for those not at high risk of disease.

The social media response has not been kind…to those who are trying to keep the public afraid.

From now on, Covid and all variants shall be referred to as Lupus.
Why not? We are aware of the fearful cries in warning of the dire wolf. When I find him grinning at my window I will laugh when forced to let him in.

Rather ironic. The autoimmune disorder Lupus is a legitimate reason why a rheumatologist could recommended that a person not get the Covid shots or boosters.

Lupus entails an immune system gone out of control that attacks healthy cells and organs. To introduce something that stimulates the immune system of a person with Lupus, like the Covid shot, is very much a game of Russian Roulette.

Anyway, nobody buys this latest Covid BS in my little corner of the country anymore.

    Call it The Coof.

      SField in reply to D38999. | January 9, 2024 at 6:44 pm

The Branch Covidians absolutely hate it when you call it The Coof. I call it that whenever I’m in their presence.

We will not allow you to push mail-in balloting as a solution to fighting a virus agaim, you dishonest pieces of shit.

Only a fool will believe anything the Fed and all its agencies say. We now know that Federal employees put their agency, their jobs, the Democratic Party, and their perks, including an early retirement to work in a sector they once micro-managed, well before they put the public or country.

Placing their interests first is typical of all bureaucrats & organizations. The older they are, the worse it becomes.

I am far from a health nut.. but as a result of the pandemic I started taking a group of vitamins.. Every day.. I don’t want to spell them out,,, I am not trying to promote anything,, but.. it has worked for me.. going on two years with no cold.. none.. zero. That was my personal silver lining in this mess. Knock on wood.

guyjones in reply to amwick. | January 9, 2024 at 12:44 pm

A healthy diet, regular exercise and taking a daily multivitamin and probiotics will do more to bolster one’s immune system against Wuhan virus, than any of the utterly ineffective and oversold “vaccines.”

MattMusson in reply to amwick. | January 9, 2024 at 1:36 pm

Take Vitamin D. It is literally what the human immune system uses to create antibodies.

amwick in reply to MattMusson. | January 9, 2024 at 5:15 pm

That was one.. every day.. Looks like a gold fish egg..

      diver64 in reply to MattMusson. | January 9, 2024 at 5:28 pm

D and Zinc. Multivitamin and some extra C, Go out in the sun, get some exercise and lose some weight and cut out excess sugar, carbs and alcohol. No seed oils, either.

MajorWood in reply to MattMusson. | January 9, 2024 at 10:40 pm

Vitamin D would certainly explain why the feral humans weren’t wiped out in Portland. They are quite literally the sun children. So either Vitamin D is the answer, or, there never was that big of a problem. I am a well-tanned outdoorsy person who never shut down and who never got WuFlu, and either of the above explanations would work for me.

I also started taking a good dose
of vit. and supplements
after having had covid Feb ’20 I think
have not been sick since.
of course eating better and getting
more exerecise prob. helped.

I’ve warded off all infectious disease in the last few years by wearing a used gym sock stuffed with raw garlic around my neck. It put the onus of social distancing on others.

Much ado about nothing? Yesterday was day zero with Covid with me. I felt very tired and had a low grade fever. Today I feel better, just like a bad cold. (Paxlovid is pending, if the trend were to change.) The person I caught it from had similar symptoms, but not even a fever. If this is typical, then representing Covid as something horrible (versus the flu) is a scam.

    henrybowman in reply to jb4. | January 12, 2024 at 3:34 pm

Whether COVID hits you like a flu or lays you out all depends on your unique body chemistry. No one can tell which until they get it, I knew a few people who died of it, but many more who had it and shook it off.

“Lab data indicates that the updated vaccines, as well as existing COVID rapid tests and medical treatments, are effective with this latest iteration.”

“Effective” is doing a lot of work in that sentence.

Leslie, I would change that headline to be “No Longer Persuade Most People”. There is still a not inconsequential number of folks wearing masks and afraid of catching Wuhan Flu. The media will rely on getting their hysteria level high enough the loss of some others won’t be noticed.

Obama: “It’s an election year, folks! Time to lock everyone in their homes, kick out the ballot inspectors, and raise the plywood!”

Ahem. It is NOT early in the season.

In Los Angeles County, we’ve had 3 previous winter peaks to use for comparison. Peak hospitalization (with not for covid) date by year:

2021 = 1/7/2021
2022 = 1/20/2022
2023 = 1/1/2023

That’s for hospitalizations (with), which lags cases by about a week or two.

In other words, we are already at, or nearly at, the peak, and will soon see decline.

It never fails, year after year, they learn nothing. People start panicking, or being told to panic, when things are already at their peak, and are already beginning to naturally decline.

“…they should be vaccinated even if they are not at high risk …

“Even if the Covid vaccine does not prevent infection, it can shorten the duration and severity of illness, and minimize the risk of long-term symptoms …”

I’m not taking medical advice from the NY Slimes.

I do, however, put stock in the opinion of top medical experts.

Florida State Surgeon General Calls for Halt in the Use of COVID-19 mRNA Vaccines

“Providers concerned about patient health risks associated with COVID-19 should prioritize patient access to non-mRNA COVID-19 vaccines and treatment. It is my hope that, in regard to COVID-19, the FDA will one day seriously consider its regulatory responsibility to protect human health, including the integrity of the human genome.”

Everything the government says is a lie until proven otherwise. Everybody that works for the government is a corrupt crook until they prove otherwise. They are well advised to keep a long distance from me.

They will have to cook up another virus in a lab to get the fear back, and it will have to be bad enough to inspire some fear. It doesn’t have to be done in China, though. Ukraine also has lots of biolabs.

The PANdemic is long over.

The PLANdemic is still just getting started.

What? And I still have my train derailment decorations up…

In that case, Trump is threatening to make a comeback, and the polls say he has a good shot. Think about this – What will the next one have to be like to stop Trump now – especially since people won’t be as scared a second time?

“Even if the Covid vaccine does not prevent infection, it can shorten the duration and severity of illness, and minimize the risk of long-term symptoms, including brain fog, fatigue, movement problems and dizziness…”

I’m going to have to see that study data, bud. I never saw any from the first hysteria that indicated anything the “experts” said was true so I’m not believing you now.

    CommoChief in reply to diver64. | January 9, 2024 at 6:00 pm

Yep. Show us the ten year data set that also tracks adverse effects as well as rates of subsequent infection and the rate of death increase among those who maintain their ‘booster’ on the schedule that Pharma put out v general pop and very importantly v never Covid ‘vax’ jabbed population.

MajorWood in reply to CommoChief. | January 9, 2024 at 10:50 pm

This is data that will never see the light of day. Some Hopkins undergrads looked at State data and determined that there was no “excess deaths” bump and that data very quickly disappeared from the public domain. My all-time favorite report was the 106 yo woman who was WuFlu positive for 75 days before she succumbed to, you got it, Covid. That was even better than the guy who blew a 0.56 and died of Covid because the test showed he was WuFlu positive. My SWAG is that of their 1 million deaths, 900,000 were due to a co-morbidity, and many of the rest where their were repiratory complications were actually due to influenza, which they never seemed to test for since they reported “0” cases on year.

Lest I repeat myself, medical science as we knew it died in March, 2020.

        diver64 in reply to MajorWood. | January 10, 2024 at 3:28 am

Down this way a guy fell off a ladder and it was determined Covid was the cause because it made him weak or dizzy or something so was added to the tally. Not kidding

I performed 6 Covid tests and 6 Flu tests today.

All of the Coof (I like that) tests were Negative 0/6.

The Flu however is currently kicking it 5/6 positive.

Also, I have to wonder why during the height of the Coof why was Flu almost non-existent?

You know if I were the Bad Guy in the Pandemic story, my plan would be to distribute millions of tests for the Coof that would also show positive if you had the Flu as well and just not tell anyone.

But I am not the bad guy here so what do I know?

First time way back on J6, took me a week and a half to shake it (and about two packages of NyQuill) Watched the riots on TV and muttered to myself. This time was back in Feb. Two days of pills, two days of quarantine, and thankfully I was in Florida at the time, so I got to walk around in the sun. I fully recommend Florida for this purpose. Beats sitting inside and watching the frost on the windows.

I got what I assume was Covid at the very beginning. Felt bad Friday, Saturday was sick as a dog. Sunday started feeling better and went back to work on Monday. Guess I am superhuman or I was just one of the overwhelming millions that didn’t die. Never have worn a mask, either

Some of us didn’t fear it in the first place.

Check the worldometers website for the United States. You don’t have to be a mathematician to see that the graphs for the numbers of new cases and new deaths are both near zero.
