Kathy Hochul Warns New York Colleges and Universities to Address Anti-Semitism on Campus

“Calls for genocide on college campuses violate New York’s Human Rights Law, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, & SUNY’s Code of Conduct.”

It looks like people are starting to wake up and smell the coffee.

ABC News in New York reports:

Gov. Hochul to college, university presidents: Calls for genocide made on campus violate human and civil rights laws

Gov. Kathy Hochul issued a letter Saturday to the presidents of colleges and universities across the state of New York saying calls for genocide made on college campuses are a violation of New York State Human Rights Law as well as Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

This letter follows the Congressional Hearing on Antisemitism where several university presidents failed to clearly and unequivocally denounce antisemitism and calls for genocide on college campuses.

The governor assured New York State will enforce violations of the State Human Rights Law and will refer violations of Title VI to federal officials. Calling for genocide would be considered a direct violation of the State University of New York and the City University of New York’s Code of Conduct, and Hochul made clear that all colleges and universities in the state are expected to apply the same standard, and to have a clearly defined and well publicized mechanism for individuals to report complaints.

On December 8, Hochul announced the letter at Shabbat Services at Temple Israel, the site of a gun incident and subsequent arrest earlier this week. The governor also visited Temple Beth Emeth in Albany to share a message of solidarity and made clear that New York State has no tolerance for hate and violence on college campuses.

Comments

Good move by the Governor. Now, let’s see if it’s enforced.

What exactly are these “calls for genocide of the Jewish people” that Hochul thinks are going on at campuses?

Because if she thinks that “Free Palestine” is going to be the basis for an adverse action by the state of NY, she’s going to be paying out a lot of legal fees to get an education in the law.

Given Yates v. United States, 354 U.S. 298 (1957), Noto v. United States, 367 U.S. 290 (1961), and Brandenburg v. Ohio, 395 U.S. 444 (1969), this is really just political posturing by Hochul.

Its all performative. Intersectional feminist dingbat gov is going to give them frowning of a lifetime.

So to be clear, it is still open season on “whitey,” right?

She may save Cornell University despite its administration’s willingness to destroy it. “Hostile environment” is a much weaker standard than “genocide as killing all members of the group”, and the law says “hostile environment” and apparently Hochul intends to enforce it.

She really does like proclaiming things direct from her office. Using admin functions set up by enacted law is so limited-government.
