Someone behind the lawfare is figuring it makes Trump the only possible nominee for the recalcitrant sorts, but as long as they can keep the “bad news” flowing during the campaign, he remains “un-electable.”

Whether he is electable or not depends on a lot of factors, but their plan depends on Dementia Joe surviving another year. If he doesn’t, KH will be their nominee.

The better odds are that Biden will not get there, if you look at him yesterday and consider his corruption and cruelty.

This will be a tricky one for Democrats and their propaganda arm to manage. This also needs to happen sooner rather than later so that Democrats can manage the fall out from giving their sock puppet the heave ho.
If Biden is there at Christmas, he will be there on election day…after…evening, once he eventually wakes up (or is woken up by his medical staff).
Will Biden make it to the Convention? The actuarial tables say he should last 1 more year easily, but he is getting worse. That is the biggest risk they run. If Biden doesn’t make it to the convention, Kamala Harris will be their nominee. If he can stay alive until the Convention, Biden can say his health is failing and endorse Newsom or Whitmer. Otherwise, they might have to run KH.

It’s a valid thought process, but I think not giving credit where credit is due. Those directing the lawfare are consummate smear artists. They’re biggest issue is underestimating “the right.” (Though, admittedly, after watching Republicans as representatives of “the right” they can be excused for that.)
What I am saying is that the left, the Democrats and the nevertrumpers want exactly what they appear to be pursuing –Donald Trump convicted of a felony so that he is A) in jail, and B) forbidden from running for ANY office.
If possible, they want that conviction to be humiliating and have a retardedly long sentence.
They do not want Biden or ANY Democrat to have to run against him again because of the magnitude of the cheat they’d have to mount this time.

A felon can run, but it is kinda hard to campaign from jail. That will actually give Dementia Joe an advantage since he will be able to campaign from his basement, but Trump won’t be able to campaign at all.

I’m no longer sure that Biden is actually running, but it is clear their plan is to pretend he is running to avoid a contentious primary, and if he isn’t, they will just have Joe say his health is failing at the Convention and endorse Newsom or Whitmer. They absolutely want Trump to be the nominee, and to be forced to run from jail where he cannot campaign, but I don’t think they are really worried if DeSantis gets nominated instead, since DeSantis’ abortion position makes him unelectable in swing states.
